I think he means 'Gimme Your Luvin''.

But OA/OS works mysteriously. It just depends on how it's handled. Acts like Britney, Madonna, The Saturdays etc... rely heavily on their fanbase, therefore it peaks then seems to drop (although I still think HIAM was a hit and didn't do too badly in overall sales etc.) and doesn't really, ever recover. But there are acts like GaGa, Beyonce and Jessie J etc.. who manage to do really well with OA/OS releases, even though they're fairly similar. (But it tends to be harder for more established artists than those who were "born in the digital era" - I have NO explanation for Daft Punk though  Maybe it was the length of time people were waiting for proper new stuff from them.)

^ But if 4 Minutes was on air, on sale, that proves it can work for Madonna (I just don't know if it actually was or not, does anybody else know?), since that was one of the biggest songs of 2008.

About Daft Punk, I don't think anybody can explain that. However, they did release a snippet of the song a little while before releasing it, and I saw quite a few people talking about the snippet on Twitter, other forums, etc, so they did manage to generate some hype before release.

I think '4 Minutes' sort of was. I think it got released before the physical/"impact date" (by like 3 weeks or something) but the week it got to number 1 was when the physical was released iirc. (I could be completely wrong and I'm not even sure if '4 Minutes' had a physical or not)
People talk about the fake versions of I Love It a lot, but there's been loads of cases where they got much higher than that. The ones for T.H.E., Black and Yellow, Stereo Love, etc. got much higher (and funnily enough those songs didn't even go to #1).

Those facts might not be unconnected...

Indeed so, the physical was released the second week it was no 1 I believe, I had to wait for ages to get it, those were the days.

Give Me All Your Luvin' was OA/OS but it wasn't a bigger hit because of what the record label decided to do with the song and the album.
Someone said Boom Boom Pow had absolutely loads too (and some went top 40).

I remember back in 2010, a lot of the fake versions of songs that got really high weren't eligible to chart. Although now they always seem to be eligible to chart (which I think is the right thing to do really).

There was one for We Found Love that got really high too iirc. It was originally going to be held back for quite a while, but instead it only got held back for like a week because of it.

I thought 'Boom Boom Pow' got released pretty much straight away? Would there have been room for fake versions to make much of an impact? (that said, it wasn't long until the 'We Found Love' fakes were smashing)

I think Boom Boom Pow must've been held back, because it had already been #1 in the US for like 6 weeks before it got released here (and also it probably would never have debuted at #1 otherwise). It was The Time that was on air, on sale.

The best thing to do is for songs to be released 1/2 weeks after the premiere, best possible time.

Its noticable that acts which flop at OA/OS are mainly fanbase acts/pop acts because thats all their inflated entry position in the charts is its not genuine love of a song (i understand this isnt the case ALL of the time and is generalised, some pop acts make great songs)!

 36. Laura Palmer - Bastille

 46. I Love It (I Don't Care) - Loreen Harris

'Love Me Again' pre-order  #42 :cheer:

I'd say a month after premiere is the minimum amount of time that should elapse before release. The likes of "Love Me Again", "I Love It" and "Bounce" would all be T10 if they'd already been released, yet we still have to wait three weeks!

Just noticed that there's a Blurred Lines EP with four b-sides - at 37.

EDIT: It seems that three of them are from previous albums.

Is the I love it ep available to pre order?

Number 75.

Seems the 59p effect is permanently bigger than it was before this year. Every time now there seem to be a few that go into the top 40 on iTunes if not on the official chart (Jason Mraz should definitely get top 40 this week as well as John Legend re-entering and The Script probably holding on, Will Smith could also re-enter but hopefully we're safe from Pras). I wonder why it seems to have so much bigger an effect now? Is it being advertised more/more visibly?

Ironik seems to have climbed a lot since the last update. I rather like 'Tiny Dancer (Hold Me Closer)', far better than his other top 5 hit anyway.

-x-

Jason Derülo now the highest of the three singles pre-orders again, with The Wanted now back ahead of Dizzee. Hm. Hard to call between Jason and Dizzee when they keep switching over like this but they should both have big first weeks.

John Newman quite a bit ahead of Icona Pop now, I still expect them to beat him but that's great to see!

Thanks Bre, that gave me an idea for a new chart topic :P
