I think it's pretentious too. I don't see how any can really deny it tbh.

 

If he wanted it to reflect a "minimalist tone" then why didn't he just have an album cover with the words "Kanye West Yeezus" and nothing else? At least there'd be something. Also, the fact that there isn't a tracklist on the album is just annoying for casual fans. I was in HMV the other day and was looking at the Odd Future album which had no tracklist on the back so didn't bother buying it.

What on earth is happening in modern music? Never mind having the cover blank, it would have been far better to have the actual disc devoid of 'music' :puke2:

I don't think the argument here is really whether or not the packaging / release strategy is pretentious (it is) but whether or not people can enjoy a bit of pretentiousness (which is where the disagreement seems to stem from). I don't particularly like minimal packaging because I like a pretty cover and I don't really like a lack of pre-release material to hear for the obvious reason that you can't tell if you'll like it without listening to the whole thing but I can understand why people would like all that, and really at this stage everyone should know if they're going to like Kanye releases or not. He's always pretentious, I don't see why that seems to be a new thing to people.

i always am a sucker for breaking the fourth wall when it comes to packaging and including elements of the actual case

Oh I totally understand why people say it's pretentious (I don't necessarily agree with it though). But calling it 'lazy' is just wrong.

(and i do get that it's fairly pretentious, but he did say he wanted to remove his "celebrity" name from the project and let it stand alone away from that so it kind of makes sense in that regard - and where's the fun in it all if there's not a bit of Kanye's ego getting involved!?)

 

If he wanted to do that, he should have released it under a different artist name.

And I find Kanye extremely pretentious as are those who are massive fans (my own sister included).
