That's why I said "not many". I'm doing media at uni, so we've had lots of lectures about illegal downloading and Napster and all that kind of stuff. I can show you the lecture slides if you don't believe me, but there's honestly not many people that do both. Most people that legally download don't illegally download a song here and there.

It's widely accepted that illegal downloading isn't killing the music industry because people who illegally download also invest in music ie. buying songs and albums as well, so I'd question the intentions of your lecturer.

Top 10 Popularity Update (not combining multiple versions)

The number in brackets shows popularity change since the last update. I know the percentages are "real" etc. (we had this conversation when I did this many months ago), it just shows a difference without having to do complicated calculations to work out "real" percentage increases.

01. 100% (0.0%) Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines (feat. T.I. & Pharrell)

02. 75.6% (+8.0%) The Wanted - Walks Like Rihanna

03. 56.7% (+8.3%) will.i.am - Bang Bang

04. 55.0% (-0.7%) Naughty Boy - La La La (feat. Sam Smith)

05. 49.1% (-0.9%) Passenger - Let Her Go

06. 49.0% (-0.9%) Jason Derulo - The Other Side

07. 42.0% (+18.0%) Icona Pop - I Love It (feat. Charli XCX)

08. 40.0% (+0.1%) Dizzee Rascal - Goin' Crazy (feat. Robbie Williams)

09. 33.4% (-0.6%) Jessie J - Wild (feat. Big Sean & Dizzee Rascal)

10. 27.9% (-0.3%) Daft Punk - Get Lucky (feat. Pharrell Williams)

So I believe this shows that Icona Pop are gaining the fastest on Robin Thicke, with will.i.am gaining 2nd quickest - quicker than The Wanted.

7. Icona Pop - I Love It (feat. Charli XCX)

199. Icona Pop - I Love It (feat. Charli XCX) [Fix8 Remix]

266. Icona Pop - I Love It (feat. Charli XCX) [style of Eye Remix]

1151. Icona Pop - I Love It (feat. Charli XCX) [Jakwob Remix]

You clearly haven't followed the charts for long. The Wanted will not be out of the top 10 by Wednesday. It's a rolling chart so even the most frontloaded of songs rarely fall out of the top 10 so quickly if ever.

How is The Voice not having "some chart success"? It blatantly is.

Rarely, but possible :P

I meant no.1 hits + successful albums.

15. Andrea Begley - My Immortal [This is the only Voice performance that I really want to go top 10]

30. Leeroy Feat Nagla - Just Can't Get Enough [Omg if this manages to get top 40]

42. Ke$ha Feat Will.i.am - Crazy Kids

69. The Wanted - Drunk On Love

80. Bridget Mendler - Ready Or Not [Why has this randomly climbed 80 odd places?]

86. The Saturdays Feat Sean Paul - What About Us

Is it flopping in its chances for the top or is this a decent rise to #1?

O Jesus Christ you are really taking the biscuit, its not flopping its getting there slowly

Now Icona Pop is up to #5, it's popularity will also be around 0.5 - so I think its doing very well!

Oops sorry Bre, I usually take care when choosing which "its" it should be but I am a bit excited at the moment! :kink:

It's going to rise a lot in the next few hours as people come home from work/school. I hope it can overtake The Wanted before they get to #1. :)

Ryan coming for most pathetic loon.

I'm thinking Icona Pop could do a 'Loca People' (in that the single track gets to the top late in the week and the EP and remixes do fairly well, helping it to #1 officially despite an unexpectedly slow start for the single).

EDIT: I hope people know what I mean, I didn't really know how to explain that.

Yeah, I just got home from school and downloaded it myself. School on Sunday is a real bitch.

That's nothing to do with what I said, and it wasn't my lecturer who said that, it was taken from a study and quoted in the lecture that most people who illegally download songs are not going to legally download a song occasionally and vice versa. People doing a bit of both with songs is rare.

But with regards to what you said, that's partly true. The average amount spent by a legal and illegal downloader per year on music-related things (that's downloading songs, buying albums, merchanise, going to live shows, getting subscriptions, and so on) was found to be surprisingly similar (I have the exact average values somewhere), because they input money into the music industry through other areas. It's similar with rock music, there's not much rock music in the singles chart, but that genre actually makes a lot of money for the music industry since it excels in other areas.

Sorry if I'm sounding like a dictionary btw, just tried to make myself memorize all this stuff the past couple of months for exams. :drama:

Songs which have fake versions doing well do sometimes have slower starts until they overtake their fake versions I notived (although I Love It overtook them all a while ago). Also, is the Icona Pop version the first one that appears when you type in "I Love It" into iTunes? Since that might make it rise slower too if it's not at the top yet.

If Icona pop can get above Naughty Boy and Will before midnight I still think they will end up getting the official number 1

Just watched The Voice final, in disbelief that Leah wasn't crowned champion. Think will gave her far too many free passes though, probably put a few people off voting.

Nice to see Andrea looking to claim at least one T40 entry though. Doubt she'll produce any single tracks that'll make much impact in the charts.

"Bang Bang" at #3 has to be the biggest chart surprise of the weekend for me though. Looks like they might have to push it as single #4 (in the UK at least).

Oh dear, lmao. I've completely lost track of the days since finishing college

At least I'm right about people coming home from work.

Didn't realise people had school on Sundays - is this some form of revision for exams?

Oh right, irony :P
