Top 10 Popularity Update (not combining multiple versions)

The number in brackets shows popularity change since the last update. I know the percentages are "real" etc. (we had this conversation when I did this many months ago), it just shows a difference without having to do complicated calculations to work out "real" percentage increases.

:left: 01. 100% (0.0%) Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines (feat. T.I. & Pharrell)

:left: 02. 84.3% (0.0%) The Wanted - Walks Like Rihanna

 03. 77.5% (+8.4%) Icona Pop - I Love It (feat. Charli XCX)

 04. 75.3% (+3.5%) will.i.am - Bang Bang

:left: 05. 55.4% (+0.3%) Naughty Boy - La La La (feat. Sam Smith)

:left: 06. 50.3% (+0.5%) Passenger - Let Her Go

:left: 07. 48.0% (+0.1%) Jason Derulo - The Other Side

:left: 08. 40.0% (+0.1%) Dizzee Rascal - Goin' Crazy (feat. Robbie Williams)

:left: 09. 33.2% (0.0%) Jessie J - Wild (feat. Big Sean & Dizzee Rascal)

:left: 10. 28.2% (+0.4%) Daft Punk - Get Lucky (feat. Pharrell Williams)

Hope I did that right.

It seems Icona Pop have temporarily increased their speed between updates. I expected it to drop to +6.0% but fortunately it hasn't (yet). :D Unless this is a blip, which it could be, IP should overtake TW in the morning.

Yep, that's perfect!! :D Except The Wanted are down to 84.1% a drop of -0.2% :kink:

I thought the Wanted would drop fairly quickly, but after less than a day? That is very surprising :o

This might not make sense, and I might not be understanding Kworb properly - but it just seems like Icona Pop are gaining on TW and Robin are so fast that they're losing pop bars? idk.

Not for me :P #Called it!

I think Icona Pop will get there, it's not a track from a well known band so it's unlikely to be too front loaded.

Plus it's almost on 80% after less than 24 hours, on a rolling 48 hour chart it would seem very likely that it will make up just over 20% and overtake Blurred Lines. I don't think that's too shoddy considering Robin Thicke is still on 100K pace. Plus there is still the EP sales to be added.

Looking at the Kworb update, if The Wanted are already in light red maybe Icona Pop and Will.I.Am will both overtake them. I'd be more than happy to see 'Walks Like Rihanna' enter at #4 next Sunday.

So Aqua ZSAXX (message from my puppy there :P ) CLIMBED to no.1 the week after being released against Spice Up Ya(our) Life??

OMG, so Barbie Gurl was a bigger no.1 hit smash than Spice Girls :(

Yes.

Given that Barbie Girl is one of the biggest selling songs of the 90s then yes, by far.

Guess I am in a very small minority who want The Wanted to go to #1 :snif: although WLR isn't as perfect as Chasing The Sun

But it's had WEEKS of huge promotion with huge videoplay and one of the most-exposed adverts on TV, which would suggest it WOULD be quite frontloaded (probably not as much as the Wanted, but still). Even if they manage to briefly overtake Robin Thicke on iTunes for a part of this week, it's hard to see how they're going to stay there the whole week considering majorly-held-back releases ALWAYS trail off in the second half of the week.

Regardless of what happens though, it's obvious at this point that everyone who wanted to buy it over the past few weeks have NOT patiently waited to download it legally (if all those people had waited then it would've raced to #1 with a huge lead), hence a huge amount of sales have been lost due to the record label's idiocy. I think it will hang around well and rack up a nice total anyway, but it could've been a potential million-seller if the label had just released it at the start of the year and let people buy it right from the start as soon as the song's popularity started taking off.

What is either song about? :P I don't get either one.

Where is this girl who walks like Rihanna? ANd they are chasing the sun as in going on holiday?

Are backstreet boys anywhere to be seem, its actually really good and catchy..their best in a long time

I think it means that over the last 48 hours (or however long the iTunes rolling chart is), Icona Pop have so far sold 77% of what Robin has sold.

I think because The Wanted are now decreasing, they are now selling less that Robin is - whereas Icona Pop are selling more and once the chart has fully rolled over they should be above 1.0000 and take the lead as they will have sold more than Robin in that time period.

It's very confusing, I've just confused myself! I'm sure Bre or someone else will explain it :kink:

Is it too optimistic to think that Icona Pop are already outselling The Wanted? They're number 1 on the albums chart to The Wanted's number 4. Surely that difference would more than cover the percentage difference on the singles chart? I'm really hopeful they can still get number 1. At the rate they're climbing I think they will.

Yeah that's pretty much it I think. It means that in their first day on sale, Icona Pop have sold 77% of what Robin Thicke has sold in the last 2 days. So they're technically outselling him today (assuming it's still a 48 hour rolling chart).

?? Didn't they split up like 15 years ago or something anyway?

I'd LOVE for that to happen but I can't see it. I have a horrible feeling that The Wanted will at the very least be number one in the first set of mids. I also think Will.i.am will fall quite a bit over the week and debut at #9 next Sunday at best.

Guess the Spice bubble had burst a little between the two albums then. I also completly forgot that Barbra and Celine duetted! Gonna have to hit that up now. And forgot Torn was out the same time! So basically by their fourth week they were out the top 5. What were people thinking!

How charitable of them. I.e. they looked at Elton's downward sales trajectory and thought 'hang on, this could beat us even on its fifth week out!'

Ahhaha right! Just what I said :P

Quite an awesome moment that must've been :D

It was one of the worst musical moments of the 90s!

Edited by Michael.

Why would they keep it a secret??

It would put the integrity of the chart and its legacy at risk!!
