Copying Beady Eye of all people with that album title.

Yay for 'R U Mine?' being included I guess!

Nah, the Arctics got there first with Whatever People Say I AM, That's What I'm Not :P

"No. 1 Party Anthem" :D

This should be interesting as always, look forward to hearing it!

Ha, I don't think the song will sound quite like that. I remember seeing Errors had a song called 'Dizzee Rascal + 1' but it didn't sound anything like what I expected.

  • 2 months later...

Isn't Fireside just *.* That short instrumental section at 2:13 is just STUNNING.

Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High is my favourite single of theirs this era by far. <3

I also JUST got that AM is an abbreviation of their name.

The album is great! My favourite non-singles are "One for the Road", "Arabella" and "I Want it All" at the moment. "Do I Wanna Know?" and "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?" remain glorious though  I'm not sure if I've heard any of the albums in full (except for Favourite Worst Nightmare but not for years anyway) but I'm really interested in hearing the previous ones now.
Pretty much agree with everything said here...I streamed this on iTunes and its great I cannot wait for Monday

10/10 in NME and they called it a contender the best album of the past decade.

They talk utter shite though,

In comparison Drowned in Sound gave it 5/10, but in general it seems to be largely positive. Currently a 77 (out of 100) on Metacritic, and they haven't included the NME review in that.

It's not a 10/10 but it's a brilliant release. It really is.

Do I Wanna Know? has only just clicked with me. Expect me to enjoy the rest of the album by next April.
They've blown up in a massive way this year, more than any of us could have anticipated. Really looking forward to hearing the album, the reviews have been very positive which is always one of the main aspects to think about. What have Q given it?

The standard rating for any well-established British band (except Coldplay who always get 5): they gave it 4 stars.

Album five arrives with Alex Turner citing relatively modern influences: Dr Dre and the processed "ex-girlfriend" R&B of Aaliyah. It's explicit on "One For The Road", where a funk shuffle underpins Turner's brooding demi-rap and falsetto backing from Homme and drummer Matt Helders. But the broader truth is that AM is a tremendous rock record that looks good on the dancefloor. Stinging riffs, bottle-rocket solos and sharp melodies combine with an ear for a groove that just as readily manifests itself in a Motown swing ("Snap Out Of It") or glam strut ("I Want It All") as in the creeping G-funk of "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?".

Like all good R&B, AM fixes of affairs of the heart. Turner's lusty mating call on "Do I Wanna Know?" may have been responsible for this summer's heatwave but he's anxious and vulnerable elsewhere - agitating for time alone with an unnamed lady on "One For The Road", and plain lovestruck on "Arabella". The acerbic character studies have been replaced by personal themes but lines such as "From the bottom of your heart/ A relegation zone" uphold his poetic reputation.

AM continues a pattern, then: every couple of years, the Monkeys make a great album, sounding tighter and more telepathic with each release. That's even more impressive when you consider the unsteady fortunes of their 2006 indie-rock contemporaries Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes and Razorlight. As for music's digital future, Thom Yorke getting his yoga leggings in a twist about streaming royalties last month shows how conflicited the industry remains about the internet.

Could someone please send a letter to every music journalist in the country (care of the Met Office) showing that there's no link between a song being popular and its impact on the weather? It's like Umbrella all over again.

Think blown up is the wrong word. Between 2006 and 2007 you couldn't avoid them. I think capturing the casual music fan again is more apt, because even though the 3rd and 4th records never matched up to their first two, they could always sell out stadiums and play festival headline sets.

They may talk utter shite a lot of the time but, unless things have changed, they don't often give 10/10 to a fifth album. I meant to buy it today but forgot to take the receipt from the single to get a pound off :drama:
