I'd prefer another week for Blurred Lines. I don't get all the fuss over Icona Pop and Walks Like Rihanna has to be a contender for worst track ever.

Midweek Charts: Tom Odell set for No 1

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

Tom Odell is heading to No 1 in the UK this Sunday with his debut album outselling its three nearest rivals combined.

The Brits Critics' Choice winner's Columbia-issued Long Way Down had sold 20,305 copies by the end of trading on Tuesday, according to the Official Charts Company with Nettwerk artist Passenger's All The Little Things around 14,000 sales behind.

The Passenger album progresses 5-2 in the latest midweeks, while Rod Stewart's resilient Capitol/Decca release Time moves 4-3 as Kanye West's Def Jam/Virgin EMI set Yeezus drops to 4 having debuted at No 1 last Sunday.

A performance of Who's Lovin' You on last weekend's final of BBC One's The Voice helps lift sales of Michael Buble's Reprise/Warner Bros album To Be Loved by 77% to move it 14-5 in the latest midweeks, while the same programme also boasts coach will.i.am's Willpower. The Interscope/Polydor album leaps 40-19 with sales up 144% after he performed the track Bang Bang on the show with contestant Leah McFall, while the cut itself races 42-4 on midweek singles.

Back on albums and Daft Punk's Columbia-released Random Access Memories holds at 6 as B-Unique/RCA signings Kodaline drop 3-7 with In A Perfect World, Olly Murs holds at 8 with Right Place Right Time, Atlantic act Bruno Mars climbs 12-9 with a 23% sales lift for Unorthodox Jukebox and Black Sabbath's Vertigo/Virgin EMI album 13 drops 2-10.

Besides Odell, the only brand new albums registering among the Top 40 sellers are Virgin act Empire Of The Sun's Ice On The Dune at 14, Amon Amarth at 37 with Deceiver Of The Gods on the Metal Blade label and Fat Freddy's Drop's Blackbird at 39 on The Drop label.

Swedish duo Icona Pop appear to be heading straight to No 1 on the singles chart with I Love It featuring Brit Charli XCX. The Atlantic single has been a substantial hit overseas, including going Top 10 in the likes of Australia, Germany, Italy, the US and the duo's native Sweden, but its UK commercial release was held back until this week, prompting a flood of copy versions to hit the market. It currently has a lead of around 10,000 sales over Interscope/Polydor act Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines, which features TI and Pharrell Williams and drops 1-2 in the midweeks.

The Wanted's brand new Global Talent/Polydor single Walks Like A Rihanna arrives at 3 in the week to date, while below will.i.am Naughty Boy featurring Sam Smith's Virgin-issued La La La slips 3-5. Let Her Go by Nettwerk's Passenger is down 4-6 and Warner Bros act Jason Derulo's The Other Side drops to 7 after debuting at 2 last week. Columbia act Daft Punk lose another two places to 8 with Get Lucky featuring Pharrell Williams as Dirtee Skank/Island act Dizzee Rascal's Goin' Crazy with Robbie Williams is down 5-9 and Olly Murs' Epic single Dear Darlin' falls 7-10.

Having been crowned the winner of the second series of The Voice, Andrea Begley now has a hit single on her hands with the UMTV-issued My Immortal rising 75-19 in the midweeks as Evanescence's Virgin/Wind Up original jumps 74-30, while fellow contestant Leah McFall's Will Always Love You on UMTV is up 85-22.

Outside the Top 10 the only brand new entry to the midweek Top 40 positions is the Transmission release Can't Get Enough by Leeroy featuring Nagla, which is new at 27 in the week so far.

Goodness Passengers album at 2, sales below no1 must be shockingly low if hes moved up to no2 he will only sell around 15-20k max!!

hope Tom sells at least 40k to make them look resepctable!!

Woo for Icona Pop! :cheer: 11k ahead too! Really happy that one of the better songs on The Great Gatsby is having success, although my first choice would be 'Over the Love', followed by 'Crazy in Love'. Quite irritating that '#Beautiful' is always lower on the update chart than it is on iTunes. :( Get into the Top 20 already!

I'm hoping Tom Odell can do at least 30k. Passenger at #2 in the albums! :o Could definitely make the number one spot in the next month if the release schedule is bare. Michael Buble could do the same in fact, since he is touring England for the majority of July, then there is Rod Stewart who is sticking around.

Roughly 61k for Icona Pop this far.

(OCC: Robin Thicke on ~50k and IP 11000 ahead!)

Icona Pop to open with ~110k perhaps? Then Robin Thicke might just scrap 100k. I'm useless when it comes to predicting sales though!

Music Week report added, Icona Pop 10k ahead and Tom Odell has sold 20k so far (14k ahead)! ^_^

I agree ~110k. Robin Thicke managed ~130k from 60k midweeks but don't think IP will have quite the same momentum.

So between 30k-40k for Sunday? Good, just what I was hoping for. :D But if Passenger is only on 6k (!!!), the number two isn't going to be selling any more than 15k. :( I imagine sales in the Top 10 will be very close though.

I think that Icona Pop will probably sell about 136k this week? Seems about right...

Ouch for those album sales #2 onwards, and there is nothing big next week, only 2 album releases by the end of the week, Amon Amarth and FFD are most likely to drop out of the 40.

John Newman should easily get the #1 next week, if sales for Icona Pop remain low for the week, its not really selling Blurred Lines style

Thanks Joe for compiling the update.

Here's hoping Andrea can hold on to top 30 or even top 40!

Not sure how you worked this out, but I don't think its sales will be that big, especially as I've been told held back releases always slow down towards the end of the week.

Robin definitely looking set for another week over 100k then, hooray.

Andrea and Leah [iWALY] are both a bit higher than I thought they'd be, they'll almost certainly hold onto top 40 then :( Evanescence will probably cling onto top 40 again as well as they seem to be holding up well on iTunes (on the verge of re-overtaking Andrea in fact). Both of Evanescence's songs re-entering the top 40 within a few weeks of each other <_<

Passenger's album climbing to #2 really shows how dead the album chart is this week, it's probably only going to get worse for at least another 2 weeks - after a really quite healthy Father's Day week as well. Ah well. Rod Stewart is doing incredibly well with this album, he's really had quite the career revival recently. Eep at 'Yeezus' dropping to #4 already but at least it already has a #1 peak in the bag, hopefully 'Black Skinhead' can make the top 40 singles by Sunday as well (now back top 30 on iTunes and it actually has a full week of sales this time).

Only 4 new albums top 40 and 2 of them will inevitably drop out by Friday. I think I figured out why The Beatles are back, they do have a big ad on the iTunes front page - but it's primarily for 'Help!' and not '1' so I'm not sure why there's no sign of 'Help!' as well.

-x-

Even though they've been held back ages I really don't think Icona Pop are going to be that frontloaded. I think ~130k is more likely than ~110k for them.

Well, if Robin Thicke sold 100k on Sunday and Monday on its first week, and Icona Pop sold 46k on its first week, then I added 90k onto Icona Pop's total!

1 is a decent trickle seller anyway, so probably won't have needed that much of a boost, especially since at the moment, sales will be about 1k at the bottom of the Top 40 if Passenger is on 6k at #2.

Same here its not selling like Blurred Lines, I'm more inclined to go with 110k+ as well. Also the track has lost some sales from the fakes, I think the fakes have done some damage, oh well, the company should have released the single earlier.

Re: The Beatles, there is an article on MW, about Help! (Film) debuted on iTunes this week. The article in question
