Well, if Robin Thicke sold 100k on Sunday and Monday on its first week, and Icona Pop sold 46k on its first week, then I added 90k onto Icona Pop's total!

You don't work it out by adding - you work it out by multiplying.

This years Voice acts look certain to be more successful than last years, at least the BBC seemed to have learned by at least some of their mistakes.

Olly Murs number 8 in the midweeks albums is great news.

I think Icona Pop will do ~125k still. Either way, great to see them comfortably in the lead. ^_^
The Wanted's brand new Global Talent/Polydor single Walks Like A Rihanna arrives at 3 in the week to date,

Walks Like A Rihanna.

Hooray (finally!) for I Love It. About time it smashed.

John Newman should easily get the #1 next week, if sales for Icona Pop remain low for the week, its not really selling Blurred Lines style

I think the success of Blurred Lines and Get Lucky may have got people carried away about the future of the singles market. I wouldn't say that Icona Pop's sales are underwhelming at all, an almost certain 100k+ is still a great total! Blurred Lines and Get Lucky are surely anomalies, I can't see many more 150k+ consistent weekly sellers popping up any time soon.

Apart from the three obvious exceptions, sales haven't been that spectacular over the last few months.

It is one of those questions that is hard to know but i think the release/promo for BL & GL was perfect and meant there sales were higher/lower. For example Icona Pop has had numerous fakes on itunes for weeks (and that doesnt count the people who have illegally downloaded it after trying to buy it) so i would def say this has reduced its impact week sales and if the track was released either OA/OS or even at the beginning of May say the sales pattern would have been much different, who knows it may have sold 100k for 2/3 weeks then plus the added sales of it being in the itunes top 10 during that time.

I agree I think the fakes really stuck a knife into Icona Pop's track, and I can't see anything else big apart from John Newman and Avicci breaking into 6 figures, and maybe OneD, but I'm hoping Avicci will stick around for a fair bit at #1, his new track is pretty good.

After that its pretty much X Factor effect all the way till Xmas. I know the auditions are starting later this year, with a September start instead of August.

You're joking, right? The lyrics to "Walks Like Rihanna" are revolting... even worse than "Blurred Lines"!

She can't sing, she can't dance ... she walks like me Nanna :D

Looks like La La La might only fall to #4. Good good.

Midweek Charts update: Icona Pop to hit 100,000 sales week one

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

Icona Pop's I Love It is set to sell more than 100,000 copies first week in the UK to end Blurred Lines' run at No 1.

The Swedish duo's Atlantic single, which features British artist Charli XCX, has been a substantial hit in a number of leading music markets around the world but its UK release was held back until this week, prompting a flood of copy versions to flood the market.

Despite that, it had already sold more than 90,000 copies by the end of business on Thursday, according to the Official Charts Company, to put it around 15,000 sales ahead of Robin Thicke's Interscope/Polydor single Blurred Lines featuring TI and Pharrell Williams.

Another big new single comes courtesy of Global Talent/Polydor act The Wanted whose Walks Like Rihanna is new at 3 in the midweeks, a few thousand sales ahead of will.i.am's Interscope/Polydor track Bang Bang, which flies 42-4 after it was performed on the final of BBC One's The Voice last weekend. Virgin act Naughty Boy's La La La featuring Sam Smith completes the top five, dropping 3-5 in the week to date.

Columbia artist Tom Odell is looking good to secure a debut at No 1 on the artist albums chart this Sunday with Long Way Down with his main rival now Rod Stewart whose Capitol/Decca album Time lifts 4-2, despite weekly sales dropping 16%. Nettwerk's Passenger progresses 5-3 with All The Little Lights, while Michael Buble also benefits from a Voice performance with sales of the Reprise/Warner Bros-issued To Be Loved up 81% to lift it 14-4. Debuting at No1 last Sunday, Kanye West's Def Jam/Virgin EMI album Yeezus drops 1-5 on the midweeks.

Icona Pop on sales of 90k, and Chase & Status make splash inside the top 20. :D
Album sales will be disastrous this week :Tom Odell will sell 17-18 k tops, while Rod Steward would do 14 k... After a few healthy months of number 1 sales, we are back at 2012 numbers...
Andrea Begley not looking to do that much better than Leanne then. I suppose she might gain a bit more respect though for going Top 40.

Tom Odell's sales won't be that bad.

'The Brits Critics' Choice winner's Columbia-issued Long Way Down had sold 20,305 copies by the end of trading on Tuesday, according to the Official Charts Company.'

The other albums in the top 5 may be a little less impressive though.
