GREAT example with Rachel Stevens. She had like 2 songs that peaked at #10 ("Negotiate With Love" & "So Good") and one that missed the top 10 ("I Said Never Again") that all sounded like huge hits as well.

And the fact that "More More More" easily went top 3. :manson:

lol. She performed More More More like a million times on TV though, plus it was used in adverts.

'More More More' was also used to promote live football on Sky Sports.

Yeah, it was definitely used in other adverts too. I remember one with a sofa, it was on for YEARS always using More More More. :drama:

These Words by Natasha Bedingfield was always in adverts too.

I remember at the time I really thought Girls Can't Catch's 'Echo' would be a top 5 hit, it was everywhere and had pretty much blanket exposure however flopped in at #19 and that was the end of them.

I wasn't too bothered as they were 3 girls devoid of any personality or star quality, but I liked the song.

Oh my gosh this  I found my physical copy of Echo recently and I thought it would do really well but managed two weeks top 40! I remember one of the girls in the band had previously been in a girlband on the X Factor.

I thought that Loick Essien's first song (which sounds really similar to Trey Songz's Heart Attack from what I can remember) would do really well but it only went in at something like #53. I don't think that it got much support outside from BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra though.
I hate the fact so many people detest 'More More More'. :(

Well it was a dreadfully cheap cover version with a very, very weak vocal

I think given their fanbase 'Headlines' was a huge shock for me. Although its not a major song, it was very Spice, a CIN song and released before a 17-date 02 sell-out! I thought it would have been at least top five. Perhaps if the physical and download release was the same week it would have managed it.

Also, Satswise I was surprised 'Gentleman' only managed #14 off the back of their biggest single.

I was going to mention 'Headlines' actually. I remember people on this very forum claiming it would "still" be Top 5 at Christmas. Admittedly, I think that was before they heard it.
I did assume 'Headlines' would go to #1 (or at least top 3) just because it's them and it was a comeback, although I was so glad with how it actually performed. Truly dreadful.
Perhaps I'm just looning, but I expected Kylie's 'Timebomb' to do better than it did, considering it went as high as #6 on iTunes. Yet in its first full week of sales, it really dropped, even with a performance on The Voice which I think only helped it to stabilise at ~#15. I wasn't expecting it to be a massive success, but at least more so than it was.

I can see where you are coming from regarding TB. I thought top 20 would be easily achievable. The fact that the limited physicals got it from well outside the top 75 to almost back into the top 40 shows that she is one artist who benefits from physical singles. It was a messy release. Thats what I am sticking to :kink:

Eva Simons - Silly Boy is kind of another one. I thought it would be a huge multi-week #1 at the time, but as the release came closer and it got no support it was clear that #149 was about all it could hope for and all it got :( Quite a lot of my 2009 faves fit under this actually, like VV Brown's Shark In The Water which was mentioned and also Already Gone.

'Already Gone' by Kelly Clarkson was another undeserved flop, such a beautiful song - It did get good music channel support and the controversy of the instrumental being labelled as almost identical to 'Halo' I thought would have helped it out more. In reality, I don't think there was any going back after 'I Do Not Hook Up'...

Totally agreed. I think if I Do Not Hook Up didn't kill all momentum, Already Gone could quite easily have been a big radio hit a bit like Stronger was. I might just be looning and being all 'but it's such an amazing song I love her so much!!1!!1' but I think #66 was a ridiculous peak for such a song. It should have been 2nd single really.

I remember at the time everyone was saying what a perfect follow-up 'I Do Not Hook Up' is, but soon changed their mind when they saw its performance.

I don't mind the song, it's kind of limp but she's released worse singles.

It's my favourite of hers. :kink: Closely followed by 'Already Gone' though.

I never really though IDNHU was a very good single, and I was baffled by those who said it was  It's probably about middle for me in terms of her singles, she has worse (although her weakest single which is probably Dark Side is still an 8 or 8.5/10 oops loon) but she's had MUCH better.
'I Do Not Hook Up' is probably her third most tolerable single for me. 'Mr. Know It All' is good and 'Dark Side' is also decent. Can't stand anything else by her apart from those 3.
I thought Scissor Sisters ft. Azelia Banks - Shady Love would be huge, like top 5, but then release was delayed and delayed and I think they cancelled it :(

I did really like that song at the time (haven't listened to it in ages tho!) The overall reaction to it didn't seem very positive though, which is probably the reason they just quietly swept it back under the rug

Lawson - 'Standing In The Dark' I though it was going to go to number 1 for sure! It had 4 mill views on youtube and alright airplay
