I really hope the song isn't too big for her live and this is what we're in for on the tour (where she'll be performing it night after night so it'll strain her voice a lot more). :/

She was very good singing it on the final of XF Australia, so god knows what went wrong tonight!

I'm baffled this wasn't huge but tbh it's clearly going nowhere. Dark Horse needs to pushed now, that definitely will be massive. That, Walking On Air and Birthday are the best single choices left for her.

The song has Flopped and she did not sing good on X factor she was really bad
She really wasn't much different to how she usually is though... she's always not been the best vocalist live, and her 'Firework' performance a couple of years back was worse, imo and I don't think she was quite as bad as people have been making her out to be. I'm gutted this is flopping though! :(
My mum and I were talking about the final last night then she brought up Katy's performance and kind of implied she felt sorry for me going to see her on tour when her performance was as abysmal as it was.
It was hardly "abysmal", but it wasn't particularly strong. Jonjo hit the nail on the head, she's never been the best live singer from my experience anyway.

Well I'm sure my mum and dad are entitled to their own opinion.

It really does say something though when the likes of Sam are about one hundred times better live than developed artists such as Katy though.

I'd say vocally it WAS abysmal, usually she is poor, but that was her worst live vocal I've ever heard.
She wasn't too bad on the verses, but the high notes in the chorus were PAINFUL.

No it doesn't  Why should a popstar be expected to be a power vocalist?

Some of the guest performers would probably benefit from taking the place of a contestant in the actual show as opposed to them competing. Some contestants will have left the stage with more credibility / dignity in tact than half who have performed this series (Katy included).

Dignity isn't really the issue, I think just by singing live (badly, but live) Katy leaves the stage with plenty of dignity. As the show has proven time and time again being a popstar is so much more than a voice.
being a popstar is so much more than a voice.

This is why I think comparing guests to contestants is silly. They're not in competition.

I think the performance was horrendous, but it was no worse than her performance of "Roar" just two months ago, and as far as I can see, nobody's been slating that as much so what is the problem? I personally know that she can sing live as I went to her last tour, but having watched her two X Factor performances this year, she's just made the mistake of choosing to perform songs with choruses that are too big for her.
I find it frustrating that she CAN do it live - the EMA performance of Unconditionally, I stand by it being a very good vocal for her. It just... didn't happen on X Factor at all. She does have a good voice, it's just very hit and miss.
She'll probably stick to acoustic versions now knowing how disastrous previous performances where she's gone for it have been. And if she's able to pull something like that off there she should have better rehearsed for The X Factor.
