Posted October 3, 201311 yr Interesting article and letter... Sinead O’Connor is definitely not known for NOT speaking her mind. When Miley Cyrus claimed that her look for the video Wrecking Ball was inspired by Sinead’s quintessential 90′s hit Nothing Compares, Sinead did not quietly nod her head in approval. Instead, she wrote an open letter basically destroying everything Miley Cyrus is about and the industry that controls her. As I stated in the article MTV VMAs 2013: It Was About Miley Cyrus Taking the Fall, Miley is not simply a young girl “expressing herself”. She is doing what she is being told by her handlers who are turning her into another industry sex kitten. The letter posted on Sinead’s website, warns her of what is really going on: Those who control her are prostituting her and they will eventually dump her. She tells her : “your youth makes you blind to the evils of show business. If you have an innocent heart you can’t recognise those who do not.” Sinead even adds that, if she keeps going that route, she will eventually end up in rehab. October 3, 201311 yr I don't think this is the right place but I was talking about it earlier. It's very interesting. It was only a matter of time before some older singer comments on Miley  Good advice though because for me someone like Miley acting like a $l*t is so wrong :( Edited October 3, 201311 yr by *Rob*

October 3, 201311 yr Kind of ironic for Sinead O'-rip-up-pictures-of-pope-on-live-TV-Connor to tell someone to calm down and think about how they present themselves. But still, some very good points made there and I hope Miley takes it into consideration as no-one wants to see her end up in rehab.
October 3, 201311 yr Author Yeah, I wasn't sure of the best place to post it. She does make some valid points cos let's face it Miley is basically acting like a $lut at the moment.
October 3, 201311 yr Miley reacted by posting tweets of Sinead O Connors' meltdown on twitter. So she's pushing those who are trying to help her in the most dignified ways possible away from her? How cute.
October 3, 201311 yr But if Miley wants to act "like a $l*t" then let her. Not to mention the fact that being semi-naked on stage or inn a video doesn't actually equate to being a $l*t. All this $l*t shaming from people supposedly championing feminism is getting embarrassing. Sinead's letter is quite off the mark imo but regardless why publish it in an open forum like that? If genuinely concerned she could contact Miley directly.
October 3, 201311 yr However, subverting this somewhat - what if she is actually performing a parody of overtly sexual imagery in pop music. She is taking the piss out of the music industry!

October 3, 201311 yr No, how about she (Sinead) minds her own business and stops assuming things about people when she knows nothing apart from what is being portrayed. Edited October 3, 201311 yr by Tommy G

October 3, 201311 yr Well in all fairness it is Sinead's business seeing as Miley has cited her video as an influence on Wrecking Ball's (it was the first thing I thought of when I saw it too). Not sure how justified they are but she raises fair enough points in the letter and I don't see why she shouldn't openly comment on it seeing as it is the big talking point in the pop world right now.
October 3, 201311 yr It's fine to openly comment but not if you're claiming to be writing out of concern. And Miley has the right to take whichever influences she chooses. Sinead may very well be happy to have resisted being pimped by her record label, but her career trajectory afterwards is probably something Miley is not looking to emulate, so maybe she should try and understand that sense of ambition which clearly is driving Miley right now.
October 3, 201311 yr Yeah, I wasn't sure of the best place to post it. She does make some valid points cos let's face it Miley is basically acting like a $lut at the moment. I've seen a lot of Miley fans comment in disgust at her change of direction as of late because before that she was a brilliant role model so for that I see Sinead's point but she is just growing up like Justin said recently. Having said that I do miss the brunette Miley :(

Well what are people meant to think when they see someone wearing close to no clothing, grinding her arse against a married man when she was in fact engaged at the time? Her image and behaviour does suggest that of a sl*t. Perhaps people are quick to judge but Miley isn't exactly helping herself. Passing it all off as a message and a "metaphor" is a load of rubbish, if she's really got something to say then there are much many better way to put this across than the way she is.

Her image and behaviour does suggest that of a sl*t. Perhaps people are quick to judge but Miley isn't exactly helping herself. What a nonsensical argument! It's called performance. She was performing with Robin Thicke, playing a role. You can't honestly think that equates to trying to steal a married man away from his wife.
October 3, 201311 yr She does raise some very good points, granted, but an open letter was a very pretentious way to go about it... As much as she is being a bit slutty and it is quite a drastic change from Hannah Montana Miley, she wasn't going to be an innocent teenage girl forever. Yes it's contrived but I just think it's such an overreaction. I honestly think that if Rihanna/Katy Perry was doing the same thing, they'd probably be lauded for being so sexually open, and I'm not even a Miley stan. I know that they weren't Disney stars and are maybe 'sexier' in the first place, but still. However, subverting this somewhat - what if she is actually performing a parody of overtly sexual imagery in pop music. She is taking the piss out of the music industry! I honestly don't know what to think of this whole era STILL, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised
