October 18, 201311 yr Do people call them vinyls? As far as I'm concerned vinyl is a word like information or furniture - not pluralised. It's not recognised as a proper word on my computer but I still use it. I suppose the alternative is to use "LPs" although now-a-days that seems to refer to studio albums of any format.
October 18, 201311 yr And that Emeli Sandé 7"? Looks like it's going to set you back about nine quid. Totally worth every penny.
October 19, 201311 yr Author Must admit I'm surprised so many of you have bought vinyl recently - I was expecting only 1 or 2!
October 19, 201311 yr Author Do people call them vinyls? I used the term in order to cover both 45's & 33's Last vinyl album was Foals "Holy Fire", and last vinyl single was Arctic Monkeys "Do I Wanna Know?". I have always bought my personal chart #1s in physical form (where available) so after CD singles pretty much died in 2010 there are quite a few 7" vinyl to represent some of my #1s. I don't know if I agree that the sound is better (my decks and stereo system probably don't do them justice), but I have a frame on the wall for the 12" and rotate them around - they look great. Even when upside down? :P
October 19, 201311 yr The last ones I bought were the Atoms For Peace album and the Patrick Wolf 'Sundark & Riverlight' set. I've pre-ordered the deluxe Goldfrapp box set thing too but that hasn't shipped. I don't buy many, they have to be editions that I feel will be worth it aesthetically.
October 19, 201311 yr Author Going off at a bit of a tangent... Which do you think sounds best? : Vinyl records CD's Downloads Other/Don't know
October 19, 201311 yr CD. Without a shadow of doubt. Vinyl looks pretty (which is why I buy it (mainly Feeder releases!)), but how anyone thinks it sounds better...
October 19, 201311 yr The crackling of a vinyl is arguably the best sound out there, although if you are wanting "perfect" sound then CDs are probably better.
October 19, 201311 yr The last vinyl single I bought was Signal 30 by Public Service Broadcasting, which was bright orange. The last vinyl album I bought was Bloodsports by Suede.
October 19, 201311 yr It's the ceremony of taking the vinyl out of the sleeve, placing it on the turn table and moving the needle over to play it. And then the decision what to place next! Not like an iPod where you don't have to invest much time into deciding. Picking the next song to play warrents more thought because of the procedure involved. Then there's discovering old 12" from the 80s and 90s in a second hand music shop, the 12" art work, the rarity of finding one o your faves. Then bragging to your vinyl obsessed mates about what you found. Playing the various re-mixes, extended versions. I love vinyl.
October 19, 201311 yr I never have to use the sentence "I got two vinyls". I say "I got some vinyl". If details are needed I list what I got.
October 19, 201311 yr Yeah, I don't really like pluralising the word "vinyl" either (except in carpet shops) but I was trying to be polite about it because I know it's how young people talk.
October 19, 201311 yr Author Yeah, I don't really like pluralising the word "vinyl" either (except in carpet shops) but I was trying to be polite about it because I know it's how young people talk. You know you are approaching middle-age when you use a phrase like 'it's how young people talk'.
October 19, 201311 yr I think if they lowered the price of them they could become much more popular. They are much more beautiful than cd singles and I'd buy them if my favorite artists released them, same with albums. I have a few Tori Amos vinyl albums but they are more expensive than the cd, are they really that much more expensive to produce? What Tori stuff do you have? I have none of her albums on vinyl. I have the following singles China 12" Hey Jupiter/Professional Widow 12" China 7" Crucify 7" Spark 7"
October 19, 201311 yr What Tori stuff do you have? I have none of her albums on vinyl. I have the following singles China 12" Hey Jupiter/Professional Widow 12" China 7" Crucify 7" Spark 7" I have Abnormally Attracted to Sin and American Doll Posse albums. I have the BT skies duet 12", Hey Jupiter/Pro widow 12" I'm sure I have a few 7" singles too, will have to dig them out to see which. The vinyl albums are beautiful and are double vinyl. They just look so gorgeous I had to buy them. Would like to go back and buy the older albums on vinyl too, but some of the early ones are stupid prices now.
October 19, 201311 yr You know you are approaching middle-age when you use a phrase like 'it's how young people talk'. Earlier today I was even tempted to write a letter to my local paper! I'm totally middle-aged.
October 19, 201311 yr One advantage of the download age is you can anonymously download songs that you would have been too embarrassed to walk in to a shop to buy. In the late 80's I had to do this, not good.
October 19, 201311 yr You know you are approaching middle-age when you use a phrase like 'it's how young people talk'. Also you know you are approaching middle age is when you Listen to the Top 40 and hate every song, good that as and old git over 40 I am still holding back this fate, I like about half of this week chart.
