November 17, 201312 yr I don't know if it was mentioned, maybe we should mention it from next week: Today's chart presenter: Jameela Jamil
November 17, 201312 yr I agree with Jester, Lily for number 1! There's at least a slight chance of her just doing enough I think. Edited November 17, 201312 yr by DanChartFan
November 17, 201312 yr Eleven new entries? We're entering 2001-2003 territory here. Nice biscuits. Would be late 90s if there were 15ish and 6 were in the top 10!
November 17, 201312 yr This week's random retro is from 1996 Week Ending : 23/11/1996 1 (NE) Prodigy - Breathe 2 (NE) Warren G featuring Adina Howard - What's Love Got To Do With It 3 (1) Robson & Jerome - What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted 4 (5) Toni Braxton - Un-Break My Heart 5 (7) Woolpackers - Hillbilly Rock Hillbilly Roll 6 (6) Robert Miles featuring Maria Nayler - One And One 7 (NE) Kula Shaker - Govinda 8 (3) East 17 featuring Gabrielle - If You Ever 9 (2) Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There 10 (NE) Garbage featuring Tricky - Milk While "Breathe" may not have aged as well as "Firestarter", there's no doubting the impact the two singles (and the attendant album "The Fat Of The Land" had as snarling, angry, loud anthems for the tail end of the Rave culture. Numbers 2 & 3 are dull insipid covers, so we'll skip over them to 4 where we find Toni Braxton. Never quite as successfull in the UK as her homeland, this had a weird and wacky chart run bouncing all over the Top 5 without ever reaching number 1 (4-5-5-4-5-4-3-{2}-4-2-4) Number 5 is a novelty piece related to the TV series "Emmerdale" which was regarding as long running even then. Line Dancing was a fad at the time and this was a song designed for that. Not worth digging out on Youtube. Next we have a non-mover from Robert Miles. After the superb "Children" and the less superb "Fable", he branched out by employing Maria Nayler to provide a vocal track. It's quite a decent listen, but after this neither Miles or Nayler got this high in the charts again. Kula Shaker were a "Love 'em or hate 'em" type band, I was in the former camp and still play their Number One LP "K" to this day. "Govinda" was the fourth single from that, but the first post-album single so I suppose it did well to make the Top 10 at all. East 17 were almost done as a group by the time they enlisted Gabrielle to help with what is another cover version, even if it's not immediately obvious. "If You Ever" is a re-working of Shai's US Number 2 song "If I Ever Fall In Love". It's the sort of light fluffy inoffensive pop that both acts were well known for, and was a success, reaching number 2 and selling over half a million copies. Little needs to be said about the Spice Girls. but this was only their second single after the mega-success of "Wannabe". The big drop from 2 to 9 is not really representative of the song's chart run - it went {1}-1-2-2-9-11-13-18-13-17-14-23 before tailing off well into the new year. Finally we have another collaboration at Number 10 - "Milk" being a reworked version of the track from their self-titled debut album with input from ex-Massive Attack man Tricky. Other new entries to the Top 75 that week included the first Christmas song to make the charts that year, "Help Yourself"/"Bigamy At Christmas" credited to Tony Ferrino who is actually comedian/actor Steve Coogan. I don't ever recall hearing either track.
November 17, 201312 yr 10 (NE) Garbage featuring Tricky - Milk This is one of their best songs.
November 17, 201312 yr Trucking bell, Martin Garrix is only 17 years old? Props to him. Someone 20 years younger then me shouldn't be allowed a number 1
November 17, 201312 yr Trucking bell, Martin Garrix is only 17 years old? Props to him. Older than Lorde by several months.
November 17, 201312 yr 9 (2) Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There  AMAZING, one of my favourites from them for sure!
November 17, 201312 yr 9 (2) Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There  AMAZING, one of my favourites from them for sure! I agree actually. Always has been a great number 1 (and close to a million for ages!).
November 17, 201312 yr I've got that Tony Ferrino single, Help Yourself is a straight cover of the Tom Jones song, and Bigamy Christmas is a great comic song with the lyrics "Bigamy Christmas, what am I to do? Spend it with the family? I can't I've got two!".
November 17, 201312 yr 40 (from 52) Dizzee Rascal Feat. Teddy Sky - Love This Town [D] http://a1.mzstatic.com/us/r30/Music2/v4/a3/6c/c1/a36cc1d5-43a3-28f3-ec2d-9bab6d6e9131/13UMGIM63728.170x170-75.jpg Chart Run: 43-44-52-40 [4 wks] Format: download only track Label: Universal-Island Records Ltd. Video here: OrCPEqDiXik Biography Dizzee Rascal was one of the U.K.'s most prominent music subjects during the latter half of 2003. Just a few months prior to winning his country's Mercury Prize — for Boy in da Corner, his debut album — his name was known only by his peers and devout followers of the garage scene. Though the innovative MC/producer was only 18 at the time of the album's release, there was plenty to talk about beyond his music. Born Dylan Mills, Dizzee Rascal grew up in a council estate in East London and was raised as a single child by his mother. He didn't fare well in schools; he was booted from several of them, often for altercations with teachers. While not in school, he got himself into further trouble by robbing pizza deliverers and stealing cars. One particular music class, however, proved to be a safe haven and helped push him in an alternate direction. With support from his instructor, he began making his own productions on a classroom computer. Noisy, off-kilter tracks were made to back his own MCing, since he found that the average garage track was not suited for his style of delivery. Taking cues from a host of admired U.S. MCs, Mills began to develop his songwriting skills, which began to take on an increasingly introspective quality. He was no stranger to making boastful pronouncements, but he drew from his own life and various mind states in a way that few other MCs — regardless of background and nationality — had done before. When Mills recorded the underground white-label single "I Luv U," he had just started to make a name for himself in the U.K. garage scene, as a member of Roll Deep Crew. He, his fellow crew members, and a cast of other groups and MCs were building on a more aggressive and abrasive offshoot of relatively slick, R&B-oriented garage that would begin to be referred to as grime. "I Luv U" became one of grime's key singles and paved the way for Mills' first full-length album, which was routinely praised by critics upon initial release in July of 2003. In what might have initially seemed like a press stunt to cynics, Mills was stabbed several times while visiting Ayia Napa, a resort in Cyprus, just before its street date. He made a safe recovery, picked up the 2003 Mercury Prize a couple months later, guested on Basement Jaxx's Kish Kash, and saw his album receive a U.S. release in January of 2004. He became more of an underground sensation stateside; Anglophiles with equal love for dance music and hip-hop tended to embrace him, while others found themselves baffled by all of the hype. In September of 2004, Dizzee released Showtime worldwide, followed by Maths and English in 2007. Between the release of the two albums, Dizzee set up a fledgling label for younger talent called Dirtee Stank. In 2009, he returned with Tongue n' Cheek, which featured the UK number one singles "Bonkers" (with Armand Van Helden), "Dance wiv Me", "Holiday" and "Dirtee Disco". In 2010, Dizzee Rascal won the Brit Award for Best British Male, while a collaberation with Shakira for the single "Loca" saw the rapper enter the US Billboard Hot 100 for the first time. - iTunes Chart history (Year peak title): Dizzee Rascal 2003 29 I Luv U -1- 2003 17 Fix Up Look Sharp -2- 2003 23 Lucky Star (Basement Jaxx Feat. November 17, 201312 yr  Ben and I were just discussing that we should've prepped this song, then it turns up!
November 17, 201312 yr What is it with rap songs with subtle acoustic guitar in their choruses at the moment? First Monster, now this Dizzee Rascal song.
November 17, 201312 yr I quite like this chorus to this song but I am not interested in Dizzee in the slightest these days.
