Foals have confirmed they are no longer taking part (if anyone cares).
Did they give a reason why they are no longer involved?

I remember Cheryl saying she was furious that Girls Aloud werent asked to do Band Aid last time round.

However...I remember reading that Rachel Stevens just turned up on the day....uninvited.

It sounds a bit like the singer Marilyn back in 1984. He wasn't included in the line-up but decided to just turn up on the day regardless as he didn't want to miss out, not least for publicity purposes.

For anyone wondering who he is, he appears at 2 mins 32 secs in the video, he's wearing a rather garish yellow and blue outfit with a long white coat.

Yeah, they have other commitments, I think they're in the studio recording their own stuff that day, and apparently they had never confirmed in the first place so whoever announced the line up basically included them before they were asked.

Foals was always an odd choice. Not surprised they're out.
You were saying? *pokes Gareth Malone* :heehee:

Who will probably sell a max total of 200-250k downloads when all is said and done! SMASH!

I'd like to see if we could get a purely download charity million seller.

Will be interesting to see which of the current popular artists still have a successful music career in 10 years time. So many from Band Aid 20 no longer have.

And yet strangely a number of the original Band Aid line up are still recording and touring, albeit with less success than they had in the 1980s. And given the lifestyle at the time of some of the participants in the original Band Aid only one of them is no longer with us - Stuart Adamson, of Big Country, or two if we include Paula Yates who was in the studio and who appears on the video but she doesn't sing on the record.

Very true but then again it's very difficult to remain at the peak over decades. I think it's so much harder for current artists unless they continuously stay on the treadmill.

Can't believe how quick the release will be after recording, the people performing will have to get it right in not many takes haha

But to be fair, there are plenty of people on the 1984 version who aren't stars any more, or who went into obscurity and came back to some extent.

For younger listeners, Marilyn is also the ex-boyfriend of Gavin Rossdale, who was the lead singer of 90s band Bush and is now married to Gwen Stefani.

Rita Ora is doing it apparently, The BBC gave her the go ahead.

Is Adele doing this? I've seen her name mentioned but no-one seems to know if she actually is and hasn't seemingly been confirmed?

Why would you bother to get Rita Ora? What exactly is she expected to bring to the track?

Not sure whether Adele would bother with this.

The revised lyrics...

It's Christmas time, and there's no need to be afraid

At Christmas time, we let in light and banish shade

And in our world of plenty, we can spread a smile of joy

Throw your arms around the world

At Christmas time

But say a prayer, pray for the other ones

At Christmas time, it's hard but while you're having fun

There's a world outside your window, and it's a world of dread and fear

Where a kiss of love can kill you, and there's death in every tear

And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging chimes of doom

Well tonight we're reaching out and touching you

No peace and joy this Christmas in West Africa

The only hope they'll have is being alive

Where to comfort is to fear

Where to touch is to be scared

How can they know it's Christmas time at all

Here's to you

Raise a glass to everyone

And here's to them

And all their years to come

Let them know it's Christmas time after all

Feed the world, let them know it's Christmas time again

Feel the world, let them know it's Christmas time again

Heal the world, let them know it's Christmas time again

I hear there's already 10 Daily Telegraph thinkpieces prepared about God being ommitted from lyrics of this version.

Surely they'll have to change the melody of the song then? Because those new lyrics don't fit the old one correctly.

Surprised they've changed Bono's line!

Not liking it, but then I wouldn't.

OMG I thought those lyrics were a joke!

Why do they keep repeating the same song?

Shouldn't they record a new, um, well, song?

Tune must be different though with those 'new lyrics' ...
