This pretty much just shows that Leona still needs to rely on X-Factor for success. She'd probably have been out of the top 40 if she hadn't performed last night.

She had climbed to #26 throughtout the day on Sunday, so it was looking to climb this week anyway with increased radio play and with the video being out.

It's great it's doing this well though, Rebecca Ferguson & James Arthur both failed to make top 10 on iTunes and officially even with an X Factor performance. An X Factor performance doesn't guarantee success. Of course it helps, as promo plans to do.

Glad she has This Morning on Friday too where she will be performing One More Sleep I hear, nice little boost at the end of the week.

I think she would've stayed in the top 40 anyway with her airplay increasing, maybe even climbed (also, I think she's still living off the success of Bleeding Love to some extent).

Yeah, but you could say this about many an act who get higher positions after being playlisted/videos/perform at high-profile events, promotion only works if people want to buy the song, you don't see Michael Buble's song advancing high into the charts.

Don't be daft. She was increasing in sales right up to X Factor. She was around number 24 and on 25% of number 1. She'd definitely have climbed to top 20 by today, but she certainly wouldn't have gone top 10 without the performance.

If I remember correctly 'Trouble' also looked like it was going to miss the top 20 until she performed it on X-Factor.

I like Leona but I wish she'd go for a different release strategy. She's on the show every single year, gets a top ten single that dissapears and then nobody hears from her again until the next year.

You clearly don't know how business works if you think Simon Cowell should not invite one of his protégés on his biggest talent show to promote her album each time. Olly and 1D do the same, why can't Leona?

Can't see the label risking releasing her next studio album before the new show. Even after all these years Leona is still heavily reliant on X Factor to sell. She's needs to spend time rebuilding up her fanbase in the UK not being reliant on casual Xmas buyers. Even with her album and single climbing after her performance I can't see either amassing really good sales. She is benefiting position wise from a lack of new releases.

2 Avicii - Hey Brother 0.7998

3 Leona Lewis - One More Sleep 0.7899

Leona gained on Avicii. Very close between them now!

To see Leona heading to #2 with One More Sleep is honestly something I didn't think I would see. So pleased for her. Bring on studio album number 5 next year!

Because Olly and 1D are actually relevant? They release singles through-out the year and don't just show up annually with an X-Factor performance then go away again. Leona is invited back every year and yes it's because she was a big success story, but it was over five years ago now. It seems like her entire existence is purely just so Simon has someone to show off on TV every winter.

They tried releasing a post-album single without X Factor and it was her biggest flop yet (not even going top 200). Whereas, she's alright at pre-album I guess. Collide went #4 without X Factor's help. I would like to see her release one single in the Summer again for her next album and then another single to launch the album during X Factor season next time.

Excellent to see Avicii and Leona in the top three :D Feels like ages since the latter had a song so high up, I don't want her career to fade away to nothing, she's far too good for that. And the fact that an original Xmas song is also doing so well is amazing! As for Avicii, he's my artist of the year by FAR, and can do no wrong. Enough said.

It's kinda cool to see Avicii and Leona simultaneously in the top 3 after Avicii's first biggish hit was in collaboration (kinda) with her. (And now Avicii is so much bigger than her, although not quite as big as she was at her peak).

I actually see what you mean. Leona has the potential to be one of the biggest artists out there but the strange decisions over the past few years from the label and management have prevented her from reaching her full potential.

Where I do disagree with you is clearly Leona is still relevant as she's the #1 artist on the iTunes album chart and #3 with One More Sleep. The public are still interested and the fans are still there.

I've said it a few times before but people really need to stop the 'it wouldn't be there without X Factor' comments - people are SUPPOSED to promote their songs. Britney's been criticised for not promoting her single/album this era, but then people promote on X Factor and people here slate them.
Didn't realise Leona is #3 :o I'll be amazed if the track goes to #1, chart run 34-1 :o

^ This exactly ~

To be honest, it sounds like you just don't want her to be in the charts anymore.

Olly and One Direction still get good airplay on Radio 1 and Capital, so they can more easily get hits at other times of the year. Leona had a single from her last album that got so little airplay it missed the top 200 completely (I think). She's missing out on the best form of promotion you can get, so it seems very obvious to me that Leona should get promotion from any other methods she can if she wants more chart hits.

Her current single is getting airplay on some of the adult contemporary stations like Heart and Radio 2 this time, so maybe she can keep their support for her next album campaign, but if she can't then the X Factor is going to be her biggest promotional opportunity again.

To be fair, Britney got, um, slated quite a lot last time she promoted on X Factor too. Poor girl couldn't do anything without the media going at her. :(

Exactly. Promotion is needed. Also if you're a great live singer, helpful.

As somebody mentioned earlier, promotion will only work if people want to buy the song. If not then it could be performed 100 times over and still probably wouldn't crack the top ten, a case in point being the new Michael Buble single, or the infamous Looking Hot by No Doubt that smashed all the way into the top 700 after its X Factor performance! It seems that now Leona's single has had the exposure that it needed, it's fired into life, and deservedly so imo. I'm all for promotion if it kicks great songs into life, see also Beneath Your Beautiful which looked set to do NOTHING before X Factor and is now practically a modern classic.
