December 11, 201312 yr Amazon MP3 have reduced Mariah's 'All I Want For Christmas' and Wham's 'Last Christmas' to 19p (!!) and Michael Buble's album to £3.49 - Will be interesting to see what impact it has on the charts - Could push Mariah in the Top 10 and get her closer to the 1 million sales mark
December 11, 201312 yr Can a 19p song sale count? Yes if the price it's sold to Amazon remains the same then it will be - Amazon are more than likely losing money on each sale
December 11, 201312 yr Don't songs have to be a minimum of 40p or whatever to count for the official chart? If that's so then hopefully people get the 19p version of Mariah so that The Pogues can overtake her officially :D
December 11, 201312 yr Sadly it looks like The Pogues' 59p version on iTunes being put back to 99p has killed any remaining chance they had of overtaking Mariah this year. They probably would have done it this week if it weren't for that :( Ah well, at least they've made the top 20 for another year.
December 11, 201312 yr Yes if the price it's sold to Amazon remains the same then it will be - Amazon are more than likely losing money on each sale Why would they do that?
December 11, 201312 yr Loss-leaders are a way of driving traffic, in the hope that people will buy other stuff while they're there or even that existing Amazon customers will take to downloading. Bruce Springsteen's version of 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town' is 19p too by the way.
December 11, 201312 yr Why would they do that? Because it draws more people to their store, and they'll download other songs as a result. So overall, they could make more money: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loss_leader
December 11, 201312 yr 28 k for no.1 and no.2 albums are not really good results Yeah but thats only 3 days sales and id imagine Saturday will be the highest selling day of the week

December 12, 201312 yr Were the Pogues not 99p all last December and still beat Mariah? I'm sure I remember it being 59p?
December 12, 201312 yr I always thought it was one of the only ones not reduced or maybe it was Mariah?!
December 12, 201312 yr Gary's sales are very impressive! 200k in 2 weeks with nearly 40k sold up to Wednesday! Let Me Go is doing great for him too, number 2 single and hopefully a silver certification soon! Edited December 12, 201312 yr by jay727

I honestly expected his album sales to be higher given his HUGE profile at the moment and top class promo slots.

December 12, 201312 yr The Pogues were 59p like the rest of the Xmas songs last year. It was the year before that they were at 99p the whole time. That year while Mariah was 59p and they weren't, she was ahead (which meant she actually peaked higher that year) but The Pogues re-overtook after she was put back to 99p in the actual Christmas chart week. If that happens again they could still stand a chance next week but I highly doubt that's going to happen now.
