100-91:

100. Bastille - Things We Lost In The Fire

Peak: 22 | Weeks: 3

Kicking off the countdown at #100 is Bastille with Things We Lost In The Fire! After the huge smash that was Pompeii, and the minor success Flaws re-entering off the back of it, this was their next release to enter the top 40. After hearing it just the once on the chart show, I immediately downloaded it. Such a great, instant song!

99. Glee Cast - Make You Feel My Love

Peak: 19 | Weeks: 3

I was in tears the first time I heard the studio version of this, let alone the performance! Lea Michele beautifully tackles Adele's Make You Feel My Love as a tribute to her late boyfriend Cory Monteith (Who's character Finn had also passed away at the time, leading to this cover). Absolutely heartbreaking and emotional, you can even hear the cracks in her voice near the end. Best female solo of season 5 so far hands down!

98. Lady Gaga - MANiCURE

Peak: 23 | Weeks: 4

After watching the iTunes festival, this and Swine instantly caught my attention and I was hooked. However, I have to say that I much prefer the iTunes festival version to the studio version as I think she should've just left it how it was, but I still appreciate the album version on the whole nevertheless.

97. Robbie Williams - Go Gentle

Peak: 22 | Weeks: 3+

This was a song I really was not expecting to be here! After not really warming to Candy last year, and being initially disappointed when hearing the X Factor performance, it took the studio version to make me appreciate it. A heartfelt song about his young daughter, definitely a grower!

96. Iggy Azalea - Bounce

Peak: 23 | Weeks: 4

This was what really made me take notice of Iggy. With Work, I felt like when listening to it that I was close to liking it, but that there was something missing. With this song at first I found it too repetitive, but it was definitely a grower and is now my favourite single of hers to date!

95. Daft Punk ft. Pharrell - Get Lucky

Peak: 25 | Weeks: 6

It took me quite a while to get into this song, this little segment is full of growers! Anyway in 95th place is one of four million sellers this year - the erratic comeback of Daft Punk to the charts! I find this song quite inoffensive but enjoyable, however this has currently tarnished due to overexposure! Hopefully in the future I'll be able to appreciate it again like before.

94. London Grammar - Strong

Peak: 26 | Weeks: 6

I remember first hearing this and thinking it sounded very much like Massive Attack, which is definitely a good thing as I had been a huge fan of some of their songs. One of the new bands to the charts in 2013, this song is beautiful and yet also haunting thanks to the vocals.

93. Lawson ft. B.o.B - Brokenhearted

Peak: 18 | Weeks: 4

A song I genuinely thought would be #1 officially at the time! By no means Lawson's best, however, a really catchy song from them, although I think the B.o.B feature was rather pointless!

92. One Direction - Best Song Ever

Peak: 18 | Weeks: 4

Haha, when I saw the title I thought "Oh gosh, how arrogant can they get?" until I heard the subject matter in the lyrics  A song that can stick in my head for hours at a time, a really great pop song from them and the video is rather brilliant!

91. Jasmine Thompson - Ain't Nobody

Peak: 16 | Weeks: 4

Finishing off this segment is TWELVE year old Jasmine Thompson with her cover of Ain't Nobody. Yes X Factor, you think being a 16 year old singer is impressive, listen to this 12 year old! ANYWAY, at first I found her voice a bit grating, but in time I got past this and learned to appreciate a genuinely talented singer's interesting interpretation of the original.

Excellent start. Suprised Get Lucky is that low :o

Glee is the only one I'm not too big on but yeah good stuff so far :D

Edited by Rob Rob Rudolph

'MANiCURE' hit me about 2 weeks (so very very late!) but it's undeniably wowing me since. Only 'Fashion!' left to win me over now on the album which is pretty good going i think :D

Hoping she rules here!?

Thank you for commenting! Artpop is very good indeed, I still need to be won over by Dope, Fashion! and Donatella but I'm a fan of pretty much everything else! I believe there are still 6 Gaga songs to come!

that's one of glee's best jade  So emotional!!

1D :cheer: Their third best single for me behind WMYB and Kiss You.

Bounce is amazing also, but the weakest of the three Iggy singles IMO. (still like, 10/10 anyway )

90-81:

90. PSY - Gentleman

Peak: 21 | Weeks: 4

Starting off this section is Gentleman by PSY - not to be confused with The Saturday's hit which is bound to make frequent appearances on these EOY charts! I can't even begin to explain my opinion on this song... well I found it ridiculous at first, but then after PSY performed on BGT I found myself quite actually liking it! I blame it on the catchiness.

89. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton - Can't Hold Us

Peak: 16 | Weeks: 7

What a step up from Thrift Shop! The chorus is so smooth and the rapping is delivered excellently, a song about uniting with the fans. Brilliant!

88. Bruno Mars - Gorilla

Peak: 27 | Weeks: 7

After being disappointed with both When I Was Your Man and Treasure, I had pretty much given up on this era for Bruno. However, I decided to watch the VMAs this year and his performance of this was spectacular, leading me to the studio version! If only this had done better here officially!

87. Lana Del Rey - Young & Beautiful

Peak: 24 | Weeks: 6

Lana's vocals on this are stunning. She pours out "Will you still love me when I'm no longer young and beautiful?" with such emotion. Fantastic, and the Cedric Gervais remix does not have a patch on the original in my opinion!

86. Disclosure - F For You

Peak: 18 | Weeks: 4

From slow and sultry Lana to... slow and sultry dance! This is the first of two entries in my chart for Disclosure. A hit for them in the summer, this slick track features the vocals of Howard from the group opposed to their previous singles. The verses are almost hypnotic and while I'm usually not one for repetitive choruses, this one was definitely an exception.

85. Little Mix - Little Me

Peak: 4 | Weeks: 2+

This just made it's way into my EOY after climbing so high! A fantastic follow up from Move, although with such a strong album, there were many options they could've gone for. Anyway, Little Me boasts an epic chorus about girls who don't quite realise their own beauty and brilliance, and encouraging them to have self confidence and realise these wonderful traits. Yet another amazing single with a strong message to their fans!

84. Glee Cast - Clarity

Peak: 19 | Weeks: 6

The second of three entries from the Glee Cast in my chart! This cover featured in the last episode of Season 4 earlier on in the year. After the original by Zedd was becoming successful in America, guest star Jessica Sanchez from American Idol covered it for the shows Regionals competition, her character competing from a rival school. A song I loved anyway, with Jessica's powerful vocals it was a winning combination.

83. Emmelie de Forest - Only Teardrops

Peak: 15 | Weeks: 4

This position is occupied by the beautiful Eurovision 2013 winner! With her raspy vocals and the use of the pan pipes making the instrumental parts sound so epic, this soon after the contest entered my chart.

82. Lady Gaga - Swine

Peak: 14 | Weeks: 4

After watching the iTunes festival, this immediately stood out to me. While I feel that the studio version is let down a bit by the production, I still love the build up before the "Swine!" chants, and the live version still sounds glorious in particular.

81. James Arthur - Recovery

Peak: 1 | Weeks: 2+

The lowest number 1 so far in my countdown, understandably as it has only just hit the #1 spot after climbing from last week! Anyway, I immediately fell in love with this after James' X Factor performance, I find his angst ridden vocals so raw and true and then the female parts give me chills.

80-71:

80. The Killers - Shot At the Night

Peak: 12 | Weeks: 3+

Kicking off this section is Shot At the Night by The Killers!. This is just sublime, it sounds very 80's but in a totally good way.

79. Foals - My Number

Peak: 24 | Weeks: 7

I was brought to the attention of Foals earlier on in the year after hearing this song on the radio. Introduced to the insanely catchy hook right at the beginning, I found it instantly brilliant from then on.

78. Icona Pop - All Night

Peak: 19 | Weeks: 6+

After Icona Pop's smash hit I Love It in the summer, I was curious with what they would follow it up with. I don't think it's quite as great as it's predecessor, but it was still an impressive follow-up, if only it had been more successful for them!

77. Jay-Z ft. Frank Ocean - Oceans

Peak: 8 | Weeks: 3

This is an album track from Jay-Z's latest album Magna Carta...Holy Grail! I was excited to hear it, as Pyramids by Frank Ocean was probably in my top 3 songs of the year last year! Anyway, this was just as good as I'd hope it would be. The song is absolutely haunting, Frank gives his all when exclaiming the lyrics, such powerful vocals that flow with Jay-Z's verses.

76. Rudimental ft. Ella Eyre - Waiting All Night

Peak: 13 | Weeks: 5

Here is Rudimental's second number 1 after summer smash Feel the Love last year. Ella Eyre gives great vocals to a song with a great build up to an infectious chorus.

75. Neon Jungle - Trouble

Peak: 12 | Weeks: 6

As trashy as this is, I still love it nevertheless. Straight away we're introduced to the mad world of Neon Jungle! Still, I think this is a banger, the hook is super catchy and it's impressive for a debut single.

74. Katy Perry - Unconditonally

Peak: 7 | Weeks: 3+

The first of three entries in my EOY for Katy Perry comes from her latest single. While her enunciation of the word Unconditionally is rather interesting, I still find the track effortlessly beautiful.

73. Fatboy Slim ft. Riva Starr & Beardyman - Eat Sleep Rave Repeat (Calvin Harris Remix)

Peak: 18 | Weeks: 7

While admittedly I've gone off this recently, when it was first released I had it on repeat (Whilst eating and sleeping, not so much raving). I think the production is fantastic from Calvin Harris, and loved the element of a guys drunken slurs to tell the story of the song.

72. Union J - Carry You

Peak: 25 | Weeks: 9

Firstly, the middle 8 in particular is rather brilliant. I'm not too fussed on the chorus but it's the rest of the song that caught my attention. Some fantastic vocals from the boys.

71. Imagine Dragons - On Top of the World

Peak: 8 | Weeks: 3+

Rounding this little section off is Imagine Dragons with their very uplifting and feel-good fourth single! It's a very catchy song, and I really like the harmonies in the chorus! Also genius of them to parody the Beatles' Abbey Road cover in the video! They continue to impress me with their singles.

Imagine Dragons  So impressive for a band to have 4 outstanding singles on a debut album. Maybe one of the other 3 is yet to come?

Yess, their singles have all been epic. Unfortunately not, but Radioactive came so so close!

'Recovery', 'Unconditionally' and 'Carry You'

Thank you for commenting

70-61:

70. Celine Dion - Loved Me Back to Life

Peak: 9 | Weeks: 4+

Kicking off this section is Celine Dion's latest offering, Loved Me Back to Life. The chorus is just EPIC, her powerful vocals executing it excellently.

69. Coldplay - Atlas

Peak: 10 | Weeks: 8

I have always been a HUGE Coldplay fan, but honestly I was initially disappointed in this, finding it a little dull after the first listen. However, soon it grew on me with all it's glory, an absolutely beautiful offering from them for the Catching Fire soundtrack.

68. Krewella - Alive

Peak: 12 | Weeks: 6

Krewella was one of many artists I discovered this year through YouTube. I was instantly hooked on this song as soon as the first chorus had began! Great production and a very catchy chorus indeed!

67. Kings of Leon - Supersoaker

Peak: 18 | Weeks: 7

This was definitely a grower for me, at first I didn't really find it all that great, but a few weeks after it had initially charted I went back to it and have loved it ever since!

66. Example - All The Wrong Places

Peak: 14 | Weeks: 6

This deserved so much more than it's one week top 40! Changed the Way You Kiss Me aside, I hadn't really been all that impressed by any of Example's material since Won't Go Quietly, but this infectious track from him soon changed this!

65. Ed Sheeran - I See Fire

Peak: 11 | Weeks: 4+

This one is another soundtrack song to feature in this section! Anyway, Ed Sheeran delivers a stunning one here, I was impressed after the first listen.

64. Leah McFall - I Will Survive

Peak: 15 | Weeks: 6

This surprised me as I'm not usually one for screechy vocals, but I thought this was an absolutely brilliant arrangement when Leah performed. I love the entire build up to the chorus, the best thing to come from The Voice for me.

63. Bastille - Of The Night

Peak: 4 | Weeks: 3+

The second and final song from Bastille to appear in this countdown. This song sees Rhythm of the Night and Rhythm is a Dancer being mashed together. It suprised me as I didn't see Bastille taking this route, but it totally works for me.

62. Olly Murs - Hand On Heart

Peak: 18 | Weeks: 7+

The first of four Olly tracks to appear here I believe. Hand On Heart is probably one of Olly's weaker singles overall in his brilliant discography, but it's still impressive especially considering it's a fifth single.

61. Classified ft. Olly Murs - Inner Ninja

Peak: 19 | Weeks: 8

Finishing off this section of my countdown is another Olly song, the 2nd of four to appear! It's a ridiculously catchy one, Olly absolutely makes the song for me with the chorus, such a shame it didn't do much officially.

Krewella and Céline should've been much higher

Aw haha, at least they made it, two brilliant songs!

60-51:

60. JLS - Billion Lights

Peak: 17 | Weeks: 7

The final song of JLS' career, and for me they went out with a bang! (Even if the official position didn't quite reflect this!) A bold and brilliant exit, albeit a little generic.

59. OneRepublic - Counting Stars

Peak: 19 | Weeks: 8

In 59th place is OneRepublic's now biggest hit to date! A number 1 which I don't think any of us saw coming! Irresistibly catchy and Ryan Tedder's fantastic vocals shine through.

58. Robin Thicke ft. T.I. & Pharrell - Blurred Lines

Peak: 5 | Weeks: 5

A song in my chart with a high peak yet a quick exit. Initially I really liked Blurred Lines upon the first few listens, sounding catchy and fresh. Also it was the song of the night for my Year 11 prom so I also loved it for sentimental reasons. However, overexposure soon made me tire of it, hence the rapid exit!

57. Icona Pop ft. Charli XCX - I Love It

Peak: 9 | Weeks: 6

The same thing here happened with Blurred Lines - one of the absolutely HUGE songs of the summer whose brilliance I appreciated at the time, but was soon tarnished due to overexposure!

56. Katy B - What Love Is Made Of

Peak: 9 | Weeks: 5

Katy B was back with a bang! An infectious song for me, I love the synths matched with 'let me see, give it to me' etc. in the build up to the chorus in particular. Her vocals sound more powerful than ever before here for me!

55. Showtek ft. We Are Loud & Sonny Wilson - Booyah

Peak: 13 | Weeks: 6+

Dance seemed everywhere this year! An incredibly catchy hook teamed up with some fantastic production and great reggae influences mixed together was a winning result for me!

54. Katy Perry - Roar

Peak: 10 | Weeks: 7

In at 54 is arguably Katy's biggest hit to date - a perfectly crafted pop song that ticks all the boxes of being a hit. The second of three Katy songs to feature in my countdown!

53. Clean Bandit - Dust Clears

Peak: 10 | Weeks: 7

Position 53 sees Clean Bandit's weirdly wonderful Dust Clears. So funky yet fresh, the song especially being lifted brilliantly when the strings come in!

52. Avicii - Wake Me Up

Peak: 7 | Weeks: 5

Wow, five of the biggest hits of the year all being knocked out in one section! Avicii's biggest hit to date was unavoidable this summer, an uplifting tune that is carried through with Aloe Blacc's (uncredited!!) fantastic vocals!

51. Olly Murs - Right Place Right Time

Peak: 15 | Weeks: 7

May as well incorporate my commentary from the Olly rate for this! ANYWAY, the third of four Olly songs to appear here, Right Place Right Time was the fourth single of Olly's third studio album of the same name. A fun song with such a euphoric melody in the chorus! Brilliant video too that captures Olly's remarkable career so far.
