Posted December 13, 201311 yr http://media.joe.ie/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/gravity.jpg Some point this week I'm going to do my best to conjure(ing - hahahehehahaho) up a list of my favourite films of this year. It pales in comparison to the last two years, imo, but we have had some good stuff! Just thought I'd create this topic for people to start their lists!
December 13, 201311 yr 1. World War Z (really can't understand why this was so hated by some people) 2. Fast & Furious 6 3. The Is The End 4. The Conjuring 5. Captain Phillips 6. Elysium 7. One Direction (This Is Us) 8. Oblivion 9. We're The Millers 10. Side Effects 11. Monsters University 12. The World's End 13. Star Trek Into Darkness 14. Gravity 15. Django Unchained 16. Prisoners 17. The Purge 18. Olympus Has Fallen That's everything I've seen this year. Apart from the last film, all the other 17 I found enjoyable in some parts. Found Prisoners and Django a bit of chore to watch in some places. Both suffer from my short attention span. I thought Gravity was visually amazing, but the story was average. I don't get why people say it was tension gripping. I ALWAYS knew what was going to happen at the end. At the top of the list World War Z and Fast and Furious 6 were both excellent summer popcorn flicks. Would easily watch both films again (which is not something I regularly do). I found This Is The End hilarious. Deffo my top 3 of the year.
December 13, 201311 yr I rarely watched ANY movies this year at all! :( Pitch Perfect and The Heat were pretty amazing though.
December 13, 201311 yr Everything I've seen this year 1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire 2. One Direction: This Is Us 3. We're The Millers 4. About Time 5. Despicable Me 2 6. The Way Way Back 7. Philomena 8. Jack Reacher 9. Now You See Me 10. Guilt Trip 11. The Heat 12. One Chance 13. Warm Bodies 14. The Impossible 15. I Give It A Year 16. Gravity 17. Saving Mr Banks 18. This Is The End 19. Flight 20. Les Miserables The middle section was hard to rank, I found a lot of them to be 8/10 kind of affairs. We're The Millers had me in fits, I found it even funnier than the likes of 'Bridesmaids' and 'Pitch Perfect', I'm eagerly awaiting the DVD. Les Miserables was too much for me, I was struggling to stay awake by the end, guess it just wasn't my thing. Everything below 'The Impossible' was disappointing in some way and didn't meet my expectations from seeing the trailers.
December 13, 201311 yr I've not seen many (if any) new films this year at all, although I'd really like to try and find the time to watch most of what's on Rooney and Jáhq's lists. Most are ones that I've wanted to see, but... haven't. If 'The Day of the Doctor' counts though, add that in! :kink: (it was at the cinema!!!!1!)
December 13, 201311 yr Life of Pi - 9.5/10 World War Z - 8.0/10 Django Unchained - 8.5/10 Prisoners - 9.5/10 Filth - 8.0/10 Thor: The Dark World - 8.5/10 The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - 9.0/10 Eek, I really need to go to the cinema more, but all of the times I have this year have been worth it. Prisoners was definitely the surprise package, seriously brilliant.
I found We're The Millers good too, and had me laughing majorly in some parts - but This Is The End was hilarious. Jonah Hill's character was so funny, had me in stitches!
December 13, 201311 yr 1. World War Z (really can't understand why this was so hated by some people) I've seen people slating it a lot for differing from the book and turning it into just another generic zombie movie. I think it's slightly harsh - The book was always gonna be quite tough to put on the screen due to the sheer amount going on in it, plus while the novel was well done and researched, I did find its lack of protagonist didn't give it a lot of emotional depth or narrative engagement, which I think the film did well in (I did watch the film before reading the book, all that said) Edited December 13, 201311 yr by Father Walrus
December 17, 201311 yr 1. The call - 10/10 (by far the best movie this year!) 2. Pitch perfect - 9.5/10 (only saw it this year) 3. Carrie - 9/10 Gravity 9/10 Despicable me 2 - 9/10 Hunger games: Catching Fire - 8.5/10 Philomena - 8/10 Sinister (something abiut this movie scares the hell outta me) - 8/10 The heat - 7.5/10 Grown ups 2 - 7/10 Kickass 2 - 6/10 The conjuring (don't see the big deal in this tbh) 6/10 Kill your darlings - 5/10 The purge - 3/10 Edited December 17, 201311 yr by vivek

December 18, 201311 yr I have a feeling I'm gonna get mobbed for 'Spring Breakers' but it was atrocious! not wanting to shit on your opinions but some of those top films followed by this and Cloud Atlas at the bottom i CANNOT.
December 18, 201311 yr Pitch Perfect and of course Catching Fire were by far the best. Probably seen no more than 10 films that were released this year though
December 19, 201311 yr Author not wanting to shit on your opinions but some of those top films followed by this and Cloud Atlas at the bottom i CANNOT.Haha. I knew someone would say something similar to this :P 'Cloud Atlas' was horrific. The worst and most boring 2 and a half hours I've spent watching a film. Apart from "looking nice" I found it to be incredibly weak and shit and 'Spring Breakers' was just one, horrific mess for me. Did not see the hype, at all. :( So many films just fell flat for me this year overall though. 'Kick Ass 2' got it bang on for me. I don't see why people who like the first one, wouldn't like the second and 'Pitch Perfect' is one of those films that I put on whenever I'm feeling in a crappy mood and it always cheers me up.
December 24, 201311 yr I've seen 93 (:o) newly released films so far this year, will post rankings soon! Some pretty forgetful, some awful (one is up there with the worst films I've ever had the misfortune of seeing) and some brilliant. :D
December 24, 201311 yr films i've seen & like (in no order) - frozen - the conjuring - evil dead - dark skies - world war z ... all i can think of off the top of my head! films i want to see - hunger games catching fire - saving mr banks - gravity - we're the millers - kick ass 2 - captain philips - insidious 2 - the lone ranger - the worlds end - carrie - jackass bad grandpa - hangover 3 ..... ok i'm going to stop now, because this is turning into a 'what i'd like to see' post  I usually hang on and wait until dvds are in 2 for £10 (or whatever) offers than pay £10+ to go to the cinema to watch them.

December 27, 201311 yr Author EXTREMELY jealous that you've already seen '12 Years A Slave'! It's another 2 week wait for us, but the cast is phenomenal. So pumped for it. Pleased to see you liked two of my favourite movies of last year ('Silver Linings' and 'Perks of Being...') both flawless to me <3
December 27, 201311 yr EXTREMELY jealous that you've already seen '12 Years A Slave'! It's another 2 week wait for us, but the cast is phenomenal. So pumped for it. Pleased to see you liked to of my favourite movies of last year ('Silver Linings' and 'Perks of Being...') both flawless to me <3 We usually watch very late the movies at cinema in comparison with U.k..I think that "12 years A Slave" is a bright exception..I hope you will love it..It's one of the most emotional movies that i've ever watched at cinema..The acting is great and Steve McQueen is amazing director!!! 10/10 for me 1st note "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" is one of the best "teenage-feeling" movies that i'ever watched..The actors were very good too (very rare for a teenage movie)..The story was very nice. 2nd note Jennifer Lawrence deserved the Oscar for her acting in "Silver Linings Playbook". 3rd note Are you sure that you didn't like "Cloud Atlas"...?? It was one of my favourite films in last year..I like all the stories, the visual effects are impressive, the make-up artist made a miracle with his/her work and the soundtrack was awesome..I totally love it as a movie..Quite different than the majority of the films. M83-Outro is one of the most groundbreaking songs that i'ver listened and I had an amazing feeling to listen it during the trailer.. 4th note Are you sure that you like Insidious 2 : Part 2...? The first part was quite good that's why i went to watch the second part..But i was totally disappointed..It was funny than scary.. 5th note I haven't watched "Hobbit 2: Desolation of Smaug" but the first part was one of my favourite films in last year..One friend told me that this part has more action than the first part.
