Posted December 16, 201311 yr All I Want For Christmas Is… A Million Seller! By Daniel Lane Mariah Carey’s festive favourite sees a seasonal sales surge which could tip it over the million copies landmark later this week, nearly twenty years after its release. She doesn’t want a lot for Christmas, but there is ONE thing that she needs. She doesn’t even care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree, all Mariah Carey wants this Christmas is…a million selling single! And, if sales continue at their current rate, the record buying British public will make her wish come true later this week. Originally released in 1994 as the lead single from Mariah’s Christmas album, Merry Christmas, All I Want For Christmas Is You initially entered the Official Singles Chart at Number 5 in December of that year. It climbed up to Number 2 a week later, but was kept off the festive top spot by London boyband East 17’s Stay Another Day. A vintage year for yuletide classics by any measure! It dropped out of the Top 40 six weeks after release with a respectable UK sales tally of nearly 306,000 copies at that point. However, thanks to the advent of digital and the song’s feel-good singalong factor, All I Want For Christmas Is You returned to the Official Singles Chart some 13 years after its original release (peaking at Number 4) and it has done so over, and over again, every December since 2007. And the British public STILL can’t get enough of Mariah’s sleighbell-adorned classic. According to the Official Charts Company’s sales data, a further 56,000 copies of All I Want For Christmas Is You have been purchased so far this year alone, the track climbed two places to Number 12 on Sunday’s Official Singles Chart. All I Want For Christmas Is You’s total UK sales now stand at 985,700 copies, and should cross over the million copies landmark this month. One Sweet Year! Since the Official Singles Chart began in 1952 there have been only 141 singles which have gone on to cross reach the hallowed million sales milestone here in the UK. However, there have been four singles released in 2013 alone which have already become million sellers – Daft Punk’s Get Lucky, Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines, Avicii’s Wake Me Up and Passenger’s Let Her Go – the biggest annual haul in 15 years. 2013 has also seen a further 11 classic tracks and contemporary hits tipping over this sales barrier, which range from Don't Go Breaking My Heart by Elton John & Kiki Dee (1976) and Mysterious Girl by Peter Andre FT Bubbler Ranx (1995), to more recent chart smashes such as Bad Romance by Lady Gaga (2009) and Impossible by James Arthur (2012). And the next inductee to this exclusive club looks all set to be Mariah, it’s now just a matter of WHEN! All Mariah wants for Christmas is a million seller, but it’s down to you to make her wish come true before Santa arrives on the 25th! Edited December 16, 201311 yr by iTSAN
December 16, 201311 yr I laugh if it end up just 2 copies short of a million by the end of the week
December 16, 201311 yr I laugh if it end up just 2 copies short of a million by the end of the week  But it'd sell more then 2 copies a week even in midsummer... :)
December 16, 201311 yr The fact it's still 19p on Amazon and in their Top 3 should help its cause! Why do you bring this up every time people discuss the song
December 16, 201311 yr Great to see Mariah finally on the verge of selling a million with this, it's an iconic song and it deserves that millionth sale!
December 16, 201311 yr I laugh if it end up just 2 copies short of a million by the end of the week  You'd be living up to your name then.
December 16, 201311 yr Why do you bring this up every time people discuss the song  Works for Amazon?
December 16, 201311 yr Surely this thread title is still misleading at this point. Yes it will likely break the figure on Friday or Saturday, but it's not there yet.
December 16, 201311 yr Why do you bring this up every time people discuss the song  1. I'm commenting in a different thread 2. Because it could be the difference between it reaching a million or not 3. Because it's rare for songs to be reduced to such a price 4. The reduction is working as it's ahead of The Pouges 5. It's an open forum and people can post what they wish however the inner core of posters are never far away to make sure no outsiders post hence why 99% of members now lurk, gather the info they want and never contribute

You also overestimate how significant Amazon sales are.
December 16, 201311 yr I don't think it's the reduction keeping Mariah ahead of The Pogues. She's ahead on iTunes anyway.
December 16, 201311 yr You sound more and more like an Amazon promoter with each passing day, that's all. You also overestimate how significant Amazon sales are. I better start looking for a new job then - Iv mentioned them 3 times in my 4,000+ posts, Time to ban everyone on the forum then who mention anything more than once?!
December 16, 201311 yr I don't think it's the reduction keeping Mariah ahead of The Pogues. She's ahead on iTunes anyway. This. I'm aware that I've said this a few times already as well (don't shoot me Umi!!1!) but I think the main reason she's beating them this year is the fact she's on the Now Xmas album for the first time, perhaps her omission from there was the only reason The Pogues have beaten her before now.
December 16, 201311 yr This. I'm aware that I've said this a few times already as well (don't shoot me Umi!!1!) but I think the main reason she's beating them this year is the fact she's on the Now Xmas album for the first time, perhaps her omission from there was the only reason The Pogues have beaten her before now. If someone downloads the full re-issued 2013 Now Xmas album does a sale go towards her single as well as the Now album or only if they download that one track as an album track? I'm genuinely unsure. I'm genuinely unsure. No, sales of a full album don't count toward singles :P Unless of course you're One Direction <_<
