I thought the whole point of girl groups was to appeal to *straight* guys... :) After all, One Direction are aimed at straight girls...

They might appeal in terms of looks but you wouldn't find your stereotypical straight guy listening to (or admitting to liking) The Saturdays, Little Mix, Girls Aloud or Sugababes, would you?

Most straight guys aren't going to like the kind of bubblegum and dance-pop music they do though (and the ones that do, are not going to openly admit it if they want to have any level of street cred!).

Little Mix are kind of the 'cooler' option, my friends who are straight guys like them anyway but they'd never admit to The Saturdays!

It is interesting that I cant really think of a girlband who has been aimed at straight males? What I mean is the music not the looks. I'm sure music more along the lines of Rihanna but as a girl band would be more tempting to a straight male buyer, but songs like Disco Love and Little Me are never going get straight male purchases.

Edit -Maybe All Saints? They seemed to be cool enough and have more a neutral sound, even covering Red hot chili peppers.

Pussycat Dolls were to an extent. When they first came out, to market them at straight males their record label spread stories saying they used to be strippers. They collaborated with lots of hip hop stars like Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, will.i.am, Timbaland, and some of their songs were very sexual like Beep and Buttons. Also their debut single's hook "Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me" only makes sense if directed at a straight male or a lesbian.

Well, Girls Aloud "covered" Oasis. :kink:

True, it is odd they strayed away from what was obviously working with the 2nd album and lead single talking about wanting to have boobies

Pre Order

 37 Pitbull Ft Kesha - Timber

Can't wait for this to be released tonight :D

I forgot this is out tonight! The Christmas Bank Holiday has totally thrown me out this week. :o

It should do well and have sales of around 100k, which is good.

Those kind of collaborations aren't going to appeal to me, obviously! :)

My fav PCD song was 'Sway', but unfortunately that was never released as a single. :(

Yeah, their 2nd album was definitely more poppy, but pretty much everybody in the music industry was moving in a more pop direction in 2008 lol. Jai Ho was an absolute tune though!

I think Beep was the catchiest, but it's obvious will.i.am was just asked to make another version of My Humps for them. On Galaxy FM I remember them having a competition where people had to call in and suggest alternate replacements over the "beeps".

Groupies, dear, not boobies!

Groupies, dear, not boobies!

Seriously?

I always thought the line was 'boobies'? :o

Everyone thinks of it as 'boobies' but it actually isn't. That was a true example of a disaster lead single, truly atrocious.

I can't wait to see Queen K get her 3rd #1 next week. :D

Who on earth is Queen K?
Who on earth is Queen K?

Is it that hard to guess who is being referred to? Ke$ha. To me anyway, it should be Ke$ha and then Pitbull's feature, her part and the production are why it's so successful after all.

Well, I don't think most straight guys would ever be a hardcore fan of any girlband, but I think some straight guys might have been a casual fan of the occasional Sugababes song (before they jumped the shark) for example.

I think the same goes for female solo artists, few straight guys would ever go to any of their concerts or even buy their albums, but it's "acceptable" for them to like the occasional song by Rihanna or to some extent Katy Perry. Whereas I don't think any straight guy would ever admit even slightly liking any Britney or Lady Gaga song (atleast since 'Born This Way'), let alone the likes of Kylie or Madonna.

(Sidenote, I've always wondered, are you the Sammy01 of Tennisforum?)

There's even remixes on the radio where Pitbull's part is replaced by a dubstep/EDM breakdown
