Looking at the titles (and features) of Bieber's new songs, I'm guessing this is his attempt to be urban.

Justin Bieber has been doing that kind of music his entire career. His very first single, One Time, was produced by The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, and was accused of ripping off Turn My Swag On.

Have you not heard any of the Music Mondays songs? He's clearly going for the credible R&B route (and mostly just sounding boring in the process).

God I hope Avicii starts gaining fast with the gift cards otherwise we are about to get the most boring #1 of 2013.

Pharrell's "Happy" boring? Sitting through the 24 hour music video must be the only explanation for this comment, haha.

I think as far as 'cultural impact' goes (i.e. The video/track has been greatly talked about), "Happy" deserves to hit number-one. With sales of 65k+ last week too, I can't see how it won't.

I hope Martin Garrix will benefit from the gift card effect big time

Whats the criteria for a song benefiting from the gift card effect comparing other previous yrs?

I'm not sure Story of my Life will benefit that much - I know it's not a Christmas song but for me it is seasonal and I think it may fall quite quickly now like Somewhere only we know!

I personally hope Sail benefits most and enters the top 10! The Xmas songs increasing for one last time this season then - Underneath the Tree no20 on iTunes - is that her highest position ever? It'll be interesting to see the Xmas songs sales this Sunday Leona, Mariah & the Pogues should sell enough to be just top 40!

Oh I agree with him, the song is awful and very boring. I have no clue why it's relevant.

Yeah, I find Happy unbelievably dull - very one-level throughout the whole song, verse just blends in with the chorus, no excitement at all.

I'd rather Hey Brother which I find annoying, but at least 'annoying' makes an impact more than 'dull'.

I reckon 2014 will be another bad year for music :/ . It won't be as bad as the Pink/ Justin Timberlake/ Bruno Mars fest we had at the beginning of this year, but it looks like a year of dance.

However, if Lorde, Chvrches, Passenger etc, have made enough of an impact then the musical landscape might turn more indie/ peaceful, which would be nice and make the radio mellow, imagine a summer full of Put Your Record On, Tennis Courts, etc! But on the other hand imagine Pink rushing on that bandwagon and releasing a song like Royals ...

I'd say "Animals" and "Sail" of those mentioned in this thread meet those criteria more than "Happy"

If all of these do make the top 100 he'll have 40 top 100 hits in the UK before turning 20 :drama: (Though I'd challenge anyone who's not either a chart geek or a Bieber fan to even name 10 of those).

Here's the list though:

14 Chris Brown Next To You [feat. Justin Bieber]

The last truly "amazing" thing Chris Brown ever did. Such a lovely and good song! <3

It usually seems to be the biggest hits of the year (e.g. Blurred Lines, Get Lucky, La La La), and also artists that young girls would like (e.g. One Direction, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, etc.).

TOTP will do a review of the year in music

Yes and?

I'm guessing either 'Get Lucky' or 'Blurred Lines'. (Probably the latter)

I'm surprised Tinchy Stryder - Let It Rain, Fat Joe ft Lil Wayne - Make It Rain and all other rain related songs didn't get a boost today. It was fackin pissing it down in London today :o

Miley Cryus might get a boost today as she was number 1 on Channel 5's "Most Shocking Celebrity Moments Of 2013" for her antics with Robin Thickle a few months ago.

I love that Fat Joe song!

There's also:

Adele - Set Fire to the Rain

Duffy - Rain on Your Parade (I love this song too, although very similar to Mercy)

What was the most downloaded song on iTunes this year in the UK?
