Biography

MC and producer Kid Ink — born Brian Todd Collins in Los Angeles, California, and formerly known as Rockstar — rose steadily by releasing a series of four mixtapes during 2010 and 2011. XXL magazine was impressed enough to list Kid Ink beside the likes of Danny Brown and Macklemore in its Freshman Class feature for 2012. That June, Kid Ink released Up & Away, his first proper studio album, via Tha Alumni. Although it featured beats from several producers — including Ned Cameron, Cardiak, Jahlil Beats, and the Amazinz — there were no guest verses, and therefore no disruptions in Kid Ink's nonchalant flow. It peaked at number 20 on the Billboard 200 chart and reached number three on the publication's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. I wouldn't quite say that. :lol: Most of their singles (ie. everything other than Gotta Be You) is quite well known and remembered, it's just not represented in the sales figures, similar to Justin Bieber I'd say, that's always been the case. I don't think they'll outsell WMYB though.

Biography

Cleverly using dance music blogs as the platform to launch his career, Tim Berg, aka Avicii, has since become one of the most prominent producers on the burgeoning Swedish house scene. Born in Stockholm in 1989, Berg only started making music at the age of 18, writing and remixing tracks in his bedroom and then leaking them onto various blogs. Influenced by Daft Punk and Steve Angello, his melodic house sound gained a huge following, and led to support from Tiësto, who invited him to perform a weekly residency at Privilege in Ibiza, and Pete Tong, who released first single "Manman" through his Bedroom Bedlam label. After he remixed tracks for Little Boots, Robyn, and Dizzee Rascal, Berg's first mainstream release, the Ministry of Sound instrumental "Seek Bromance," became a huge hit across Europe and later in the U.K., thanks to a vocal version featuring Amanda Wilson. In 2012 he released the song "2 Million" after reaching that number of followers on Facebook, while his single "Le7els" and its accompanying video were nominated at that year's MTV Music Video Awards. Towards the end of 2012 he released his highly-anticipated collaboration single with Nicky Romero. "I Could Be The One" was a smash hit and was featured heavily on reality TV shows and radio play across Europe. In 2013, Avicii teamed up with Ericsson and creates the first "crowdsourced" track which enabled the producer to connect to fans and promote his brand. The single "3 Million" was released to celebrate the 3 millionth fan on his Facebook page. "Le7els" was nominated for the Best Dance Recording at the 2013 Grammys but lost out to Skrillex & Sirah's "Bangarang". Ahead of his debut album #TRUE, he released the single "Wake Me Up" in June 2013. Biography

Chase & Status — consisting of drum'n'bass DJs Saul Milton and Will Kennard — earned their stripes after remixing the rather questionable Capleton track "Duppy Man" to success in 2005. From there the duo had a few hit club singles — in 2007 with the double A-sided "Hurt You" b/w "Sell Me Your Soul" and 2008's "Take Me Away" — that hit the top of the U.K. dance and club charts. A full-length was finally released in 2008. Entitled More Than Alot, it featured appearances from Kano, Takura, and Digga, and was well-received critically; it won a 2009 Drum and Bass Award for best album. From there, Milton and Kennard dipped their toes into more pop-oriented production; "End Credits," a 2009 single featuring Plan B, entered the U.K. Top Ten and led to the 2011 album No More Idols, which featured collaborations with Dizzee Rascal, Tinie Tempah, and Cee-Lo Green. Spending 35 weeks in the U.K. Top 40, No More Idols went on to earn a double-platinum status. At the beginning 2012 the duo were nominated for Best British Group at the prestigious Brit Awards — a first for a drum 'n' bass outfit — yet were beaten to the gong by Coldplay. Not resting on their laurels, the duo spent 2012 playing live dates at festivals across the U.K. and Europe, including a sub-headline slot at the metal festival Download. As a thank you to fans for their support, the festival favorite "Big Man" — featuring vocals from Liam Bailey — was released at the end of 2012. I think WMUB, Little Things and Story of My Life are all quite familiar with the Public. It's a shame that their second highest selling single is that cover...

Oooooh so close to top 20! Out of all the singles so far this era, this one I'd least expect to possibly have the most weeks T40 soon!

I think with Justin Beiber there really are a lot of people who know who he is but would struggle to name a song by him - most people over about 30, probably - because his promotion is so targetted. 1D aren't in that position though, they're closer to the mainstream but even if people know some of the other songs only 'Story Of My Life' really seems widely enough liked to challenge so far.
