As you know, Pharrell Williams is still in the top 3 with 'Happy' and it's only a matter of time before it sells a million copies. And it doesn't look like it's going anywhere. Which means I think it has a chance of overtaking Blurred Lines to become the biggest selling song of the decade-to-date, although it's not certain just yet. What do you think? It would be funny to see Pharrell to knock himself off the #1 spot :P It just goes to show how big he is right now.

So, what are the chances of Happy outselling Blurred Lines?

I don't think it will outsell 'Blurred Lines', could see it running out of steam around 100-200k short - it's a fantastic achievement for him to get a third million seller though (and finally one in his own right showing that he didn't just get lucky to have the first two).
I reckon it probably will take over, much more accessible to soundbedding whereas Blurred Lines was massive for a concentrated period of time which is where it gathered the sales. Could be a while for Happy to get there though.
How much BL sold? happy will be on million in the next 10 days I guess.

What are its sales? Is it likely to get there before by 18th April?

What's so special about the 18th April?

Anyway BL has sold 1.5m and Happy 900k so far

I think it's on course to pass 1m within the next 2/3 weeks (possibly even sooner). Any particular significance to that date?

That's sold a lot less than I remembered :o

(you'd already edited this by the time I hit quote but humbug)

Get Lucky was released on 19th April last year. To have released three songs which have all gone on to sell a million in less than a year is absolutely incredible. I know they aren't all solely Pharrell and they were all first singles of an era but still.

And to my knowledge, no one else apart from The Beatles have managed to do this.

It's kinda cool because one he features on (Get Lucky) one he just produced (Blurred Lines) and one is a solo song (Happy).

I didn't even know who he was this time last year and now I'm a huge fan. :D

Someone do the maths? I mean, we must have an idea of how it's trailing off at the moment, how far it is from Blurred Lines and how Blurred Lines is selling at the moment too.
I can't see it happening. I'm a bit baffled by the huge success of 'Happy' tbh, I mean it always sounded like a hit but never a million seller to me

I started off hating it, then I was obsessed with it for about a week and now I can't bare to listen to it ever again. It's a great song, very catchy and something different but it's so f***ing repetitive! :o It's like 4 minutes of "'cos I'm happy!!".

I wouldn't rule "Someone Like You" out of the equation just yet. At the moment, BL and SLY have sold exactly the same (to nearest 5k), and BL is ~70 on iTunes and dropping, whereas SLY is around ~130 on iTunes and constantly between 100-200. If Adele releases soon it'll get a boost too.

I think the relative simplicity of this track is it's strength and indeed why it has such broad appeal and ultimately why it has sold so much and so consistently. It's just a great 'feel good' track and people like that.

Exactly.

The fact that people hate it is utterly bizarre.

I can't understand anyone hating it either. I don't love it but isn't it just too inoffensive to hate?
