How awful he should make something people actually want to buy...

He could have made a good song that people want to buy.

ISTM he *has*. :P

Seriously though, it's a bizarre idea to me that beng commercially successful could be seen as a *bad* thing?

This guy was brilliant 10-15 years ago. There's nothing that makes this new track stand out from any other top 10 dance hit in the last five years. Next up it'll be Ferry Corsten...
I really don't think Ferry Corsten will get a top 40 hit again even if he did make a commercial sounding track - he's not big enough anymore.

No one is saying that at all. I'm not saying I agree with them (I like 'Red Lights', though he has done far better), but they're clearly saying that he's watered down his sound in a deliberate attempt at commercial success, which IS a bad thing.

But most artists who don't vary their music in response to changing preferences, get left behind - wheras those who *do* tend to enjoy long careers, e.g. Madonna, Kylie...

So because it's a good business move everyone should enjoy the fact that he's watered down his music?

To use an example that might make sense to you, how people are reacting to 'Red Lights' is how you might react to Birdy doing a hip-hop song. That's varying her music to keep with the times. Doesn't mean you're going to like it.

I don't think that's a good analogy - hip-hop is a totally different genre, whereas all Tiesto has done is 'watered down' within the same genre.

In my case though, I like both Tiesto's older songs *and* this current one.

If not, he could use a pseudonym like he (and most others) have done several times before.

Hopefully after Thursday Molly Sanden - Why Am I Crying can go atleast top 200 on itunes as the whole song is used in Ja'mie: Private School Girl this week. In the seccond week of the show it was used a tiny bit and managed to creep to about 900 if I remember correctly. Such a beautiful song.

'What You've Done To Me' and 'Firestarter' by Samantha Jade also have fairly hefty cunks used in episodes of this, so hoping they'll receive some form of boost on iTunes.

Tiesto has been famous and successful for a long time, and would probably would have continued to be so for a while longer. I don't think he needed to do this. I think it's different with pop artists, since their whole purpose is to be in the charts.

In relation to this discussion both normal artists & pop artists can lead the way if they believe in a song enough!

In relation to John Legend great to see it doing well this weekend it will be 3 weeks since he performed it on Wossy and its stayed fairly stable sinvce (mainly because of radio 2 playlisting) so maybe more stations will pick it up now!

That John Legend track is beautiful, can't get enough of it right now. Please knock that lame Shot Me Down remix out of the top 10. Didn't deserve a top 10 peak in the first place -_-

Did i hear Greg James correctly there - Zane Lowes playing Ellie Gouldings brand new single tonight as his hottest record??

Cant be.....

Ellie's doing a Beyoncé *.*

DJ Fresh said he's got a new song with her out soon, maybe it's that.

It's yet another Ellie soundtrack song. This might be getting pushed as a single though, so get ready for I'm Still Thinking About Those Halcyon Days.

You are still completely missing the point.

I was led to believe Zane's hottest record is the lead single from Horrors' fourth studio album, but he might just be playing it for the first time on the show.

Regardless, it's a risk DJ Fresh is taking releasing an Ellie track, she's already hogging the T40; I would have left it a bit longer ("I Need Your Love" was a well timed collaboration, for example).

You are still completely missing the point.

Or you are missing mine? :)
