i love the video! Maddie is an insanely amazing dancer

The song has properly grown on me of late. It should be huge here, I'm hoping it will be.

it's very rare to get such a special pop MOMENT like this entire package has been so far.

i'm not one for over zealous scoring but here is a rare 11/10 moment

Heard this for the first time earlier, and I couldn't tell you why I'm not loving this, I just find it a bit underwhelming. I was waiting for a huge chorus like I'd read but I don't actually remember anything about it from the two times I've heard it and I wasn't at any point particularly impressed.

That performance annoyed me though, I find the voice breaks near on unlistenable.

Listen to it more or watch the lyric video, and hopefully everything will stick more.

What an incredible performance. Just watched after hearing a bit about it, and away from the talented Maddie, Sia's presence and vocals (even, or rather especially when, breaking) just make me love the song so much more. I fully get the "not wanting to be seen" thing and good on her for sticking to it even if it does come across as cold and pretentious.

AND it's finally looking to get some attention on iTunes here too, finally getting top 200 on preorders. Would give anything for this to be the hit it deserves to be.

(Rob, i do think the video and this performance detract from the song itself somewhat, so maybe listen to the song on its own next time? ^_^)

She pulls this off really well live!

I don't quite get the whole performing facing the wall because she doesn't want to be seen thing as she's performed many times on TV before facing a camera.

I don't really understand why she's making commercial music and promoting Chandelier in the first place if she doesn't want to be seen? That's kinda part of being famous. Don't get me wrong I love her music and this song in particular but if you're gonna be doing live performances on shows as big as Ellen then it would be courteous to show your face. I'd respect her more if she stuck to writing songs for other people or featuring on others' songs if she doesn't want to be in the limelight.

She does seem to not want to be famous, I saw a news story about her saying that she was quite annoyed that David Guetta released her version of Titanium as it was actually meant for Mary J. Blige or Katy Perry but David just decided it worked a lot better with her than Mary as Katy turned it down due to it having a similar message to Firework. But tbh she could have done something to block the song being on the album if she really didn't want it to be on there surely? I guess she couldn't have predicted that far in advance it'd be as huge as it was.

I guess she just doesn't want to stop releasing her own music (of which I'm glad, her last album was bloody fab) but she doesn't want to be one of the big pop girls, so she's trying to do both. But at the same time, if you don't want to be really famous, don't promote on shows like Ellen! It's kind of a catch 22 situation I guess, she wants her music to be released and heard but she doesn't want the fame, and it's difficult to isolate each one of those.

I get vibes that many expect Sia to be like a 19 year old girl and I gather that she feels self conscious on stage and maybe doesn't want it to take over her performance and result in shakey vocals?

Found this of her performing in 2008 on David Letterman. Her reaction at the end is quite the opposite of what we're seeing now!

If she doesn't want to be famous then don't collaborate with David Guetta or go on Ellen! I'm glad that she has done these things as it's gathered her some well-deserved recognition but it seems silly to be trying to throw that away now. The whole not appearing on camera thing makes it seem like a publicity stunt rather than any genuine attempt to remain unknown.

She's had Graves' disease since then, and I imagine she's become quite self-conscious after that.
I was having this discussion with Bal earlier, I don't mind people not wanting the whole 'celebrity' tag or whatever but Adele is a perfect example of someone being incredibly successful but she does a great job of keeping her private life private. She doesn't act like a glitzy celebrity, it was ages until people saw her with a baby for example. When Sia does stuff like facing a wall, if anything it acts like when someone says "I've got a secret, but I'm not telling you what it is" ... it makes you actually want to see her face, making it feel more like a marketing ploy. If so, I guess it's clever, but it does come across pretentious to me. I don't believe anyone is THAT shy that they cower away in a corner on live TV, especially in this industry. Perhaps that's cynical but hey ho.
Also, in some ways, it could be argued that hiding against a wall like that might garner more attention than facing forward... She probably wouldn't have had a whole page of discussion about that performance on here for example if she wasn't concealing herself like that, and people will be talking and wondering why she's doing that. I get that she's maybe self conscious and I get that she doesn't want to be famous, but the bottom line is why go on Ellen if that's the case? Chandelier is being played on the radio so she is getting her music heard, which I think is what she wants.
At the end of the day, we all don't know how she feels when she does these performances or what she goes through while she does them, so maybe she's trying to make them easier for her or whatever. It's all very well to criticise and speculate but if it makes sense to the artist then I don't see any problem.

As much as I'm really beginning to fully adore 'Chandalier', that performance was extremely difficult to listen to. Obviously the song must be quite a task to sing live, and at least she didn't mime (presumably); but the way her voice cracked is almost painful. :(

I've been thinking about this a lot since seeing the performance and i really disagree with this.

So only people that want to be famous can promote their music or collaborate/release their music and let it be successful? Surely she wants her music to be "famous" and big as opposed to her as a person. She's making quite a bold statement by going onto a show like Ellen and only letting her music do the talking, which is why she was there in the first place, her music - because she is first and foremost an artist (as opposed to a "personality").

I agree in part with what Liam has said, and her facing away really adds to it for me because it gets me thinking all about the culture she's in and trying to break away from. So in a way, yes, she is drawing more attention to herself in doing so but i think that's so she can further embed her message as opposed to a ~pretentious~ way of performing. She was there, she did her job and then she left. And i did not know about the disease she might have had, so this is all my views before even considering how insecure she might actually be about herself or the way she appears on camera now.

Really starting to love this since the video was released as I wasn't too keen at first.

In regards to her hiding herself, I don't really have anything to add. She's still got that excitement however of performing on big TV shows, I don't think the reaction of her on Letterman and on Ellen are any different , you can tell how appreciative she still is when she says 'thank you, thank you' and she does some mini-celebrations at the end.

I do find it funny however where, at the end, she thinks they've cut to a commercial because the music starts playing so she starts to turn around until Ellen obviously tells her the cameras are still on.
