I think #SELFIE, as abysmal as it is, is the sort of song that's aimed at the audience that Radio 1 are targeting. It is a novelty song just like The Fox & Gangnam Style, but an older audience definitely wouldn't get it at all, the latter two are at least a bit more universal in a 'oh LOL its a fox and a funny dance' sort of way.

I love #SELFIE :( Much more entertaining / funny than the dire Gangnam Style and The Fox. I guess because it is relatable to a lot of people who go on nights out?

I go out quite a lot and if #Selfie came on, I'd go outside for a cigarette.

It's just not as funny as it wants to be, and the beat is WAY to lazy and generic.

I thankfully haven't heard Selfie anywhere (and I don't expect to tbh, most places wouldn't play a song like that), but if I ever do I'll walk out the club completely and never go back.

Selfie is not like Harlem Shake in any way, but to answer your question I think Radio 1 did playlist it. I remember they playlisted a Baauer song (Higher?) the week before, then Harlem Shake blew up and they swapped them round iirc.

I'm really surprised R1 have playlisted and are pushing #Seflie. It's exactly the kind of thing I thought they were trying to move away from. They may as well have playlisted 'What Does The Fox Say'

 

Maybe they are playlisting Selfie because one of their ex DJ's (Pete Tong) is in the video (he sends a selfie) and for the fact that Radio 1 wants to come across as a trendsetter (I think they are failing miserably IMO :rolleyes:)

Don't people usually moan at Radio 1 for *not* playlisting popular songs? Jesus. I dislike the fact that they're playing it as much as anyone else but it was pretty obvious they were going to.

I really really hope you're proven wrong. It went top 15 on pre-orders, has been top 200 almost the entire time since it got put up, also has an EP, a second version and physicals. It's most CERTAINLY a contender.

I won't be proven wrong, in fact I'm so confident that the song wont get to number 1 that if it is announced on the 30th of March as the UK's official number 1 then I would be willing to get banned for a month on Buzzjack as a bet.

I can't see why 5SOS is being written off so much? Its pre-order went like top 10 combined before anyone even heard it (and the EP was #1 as well I think?). Changes' pre-order has done very well, but i'm not yet convinced it'll be much bigger than something like Sonnentanz, for example. I Got U will probably drop to around 70k or something, which i'm fairly sure 5SOS will outsell

Everyone keeps saying this and ignoring the fact that it hasn't had any real sustained success as a pre-order. It hasn't totally bombed since then, but it's been performing well below the level that usually indicates a #1.

The most likely scenario for next week is that Duke Dumont will stay at #1.
