A companion to the other thread. What about the acts that you thought would go on to be massive and have loads of hits but they only managed one or two. I'd say:

Girl Thing - They really were EVERYWHERE in summer 2000, and then Last One Standing limped in at #8 and that was pretty much it!

The Bravery - Weren't they supposed to be the new Killers? Oops.

Little Boots - Poor cow. Thank god for Remedy!

Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea come to mind straight away, although that might've just been the overhype from the Buzzjack masses.

I thought Clare Maguire would be big... but then The Last Dance charted at #23 and hasn't gone top 40 since.

Edit: beaten.

Were they? I'd never heard of them until this year when The Big Reunion started.

Amerie's also a good example of this. She may have had two top ten hits, but she seems like someone who could have been much bigger with the material she released.
I didn't think they'd be huge by any means but I thought Stooshe would have done better after having a good sized hit with 'Black Heart'. As much as I love their cover, I guess 'Waterfalls' killed any chance of further success for them. :(

All over the music channels, TV shows and magazines certainly. I suppose it depends on where you were looking though.

I still don't get how Gotta Work wasn't huge, even despite getting a decent push here! What a tune!

I thought that Girls Can't Catch would be quite big, potentially on a Saturdays level, and they just about scraped two "hits"

Also definitely agree with Azealia Banks. Although she'd actually released her album the first time she said she would and not been a bit of a dick she would have I think.

Iggy Azalea is doing fine, had 3 top 20 hits and is certain to have a 4th with 'Fancy' (likely to be another new peak for her). Azealia Banks I definitely agree with though!

I can remember really liking 'Echo' at the time, may have to give that a re-listen! I think they came about at a similar time to The Saturdays and I think they both had a similar genre of music so it's odd they didn't get any decent success.

Perhaps a bit early to write her off, but Nina Nesbitt hasn't been as big as I expected. After "Stay Out" came out of nowhere and she had a couple of smaller hits, I thought she'd be the sort to get a bit of new year hype and when it came to the album release she'd have a top 10 single. As it is, the lead single scraped into the top 40 and the album just missed the top 10. Not exactly a failure, but not what I expected.

I thought 'Echo' would be huge, it was literally everywhere.

The band itself though had zero personality or charisma so I can sort of see why they didn't get anywhere.

SoundGirl I think they were called?

Oh yes, I never really expected much from them. They seemed to be one of the last in a long line of girl groups we were saturated with in 2008-2011. I do really like Little Nikki (who was in the group) though!

Smash Hits famously broke their own rule by putting Girl Thing on the cover even though they hadn't had a Top 5 hit yet. As it turned out they never did.

Daisy Dares You (at least it seemed that way at the time anyway) & Hurts come to mind, although I guess the latter have featured on a number 1 to their name so not too bad.

Marina & The Diamonds also never quite took off in the way I thought either, not that she's been unsuccessful, but always felt like she was never quite as big s she could've been (maybe because she was ridiculously overhyped on here)

I've noticed on Tumblr that pretty much all Lana Del Rey fans I've come across have liked Marina and the Diamonds so I agree it is surprising she hasn't done better.

Then again, I'm sure Marina has a bitchy personality so that could explain a few things.
