Is this eligible?

I still don't think it will go top 10 anyway, if it is.

Sadly it is yes, I think top 10 is possible but it will end up around 11-15 if it holds in the iTunes top 10 which given they're constantly being talked about on Capital will only help maintain their sales

What are these little sh!ts doing at #3 all of a sudden?

Tone down a bit, that's harsh. ;)

chart manipulation :( basically all their fanbase is pre-ordering the album, so this song, being the instant grat, climbs the iTunes chart because of it.

Just calling 5 Seconds Of Summer's success only due to a fanbase is really quite short-sighted actually.

To be fair, I think it probably would be mainly their core fanbase pre-ordering their album, but I think Katy Perry and Lady Gaga and others have done the same haven't they? In which case it's a bit unfair to single out 5 Seconds of Summer imo.

Also, why has Skepta's pre-order climbed so much? Last time I looked it had dropped out the top 1500.

I don't see anyone complaining about the Coldplay instant grat in the top 10 right now either...

Sure, it's gonna be mainly fanbase pre-orders putting it here, so it'll drop down soon, but "chart manipulation" it is not, lol.

I think the difference is that 'A Sky Full of Stars' will now be selling in its own right as it is now a single whereas 'Good Girls' will probably be out of the top 40 within a week.

I don't have a problem with instant downloads though as long as they aren't too frequent as One Direction's were before the 'Midnight Memories' album release.

It might be *now*, but A Sky Full of Stars still went to #1 upon its release due to the instant grats? As did Midnight, which is now lingering at the bottom of the top 40. It's definitely not chart manipulation anyway.

16. Jason Derulo ft Snoop Dogg- Wiggle

28. Alicia Keys ft Kendrick Lamar- It's On Again

Another Scottish football related song in the Top100 after Aberdeen fans bought 'Don't You Want Me' by The Human League to #4 on iTunes after winning the League Cup.

Well they were both ineligible ('Midnight' remix aside) so still a different case from 5SOS :P This track is more comparable to stuff like Paolo Nutini's 'Better Man' and Kasabian's 'explodes' which were chart eligible and not being promoted as singles. I agree it's not 'manipulation' but it's definitely taking advantage of a loophole whereby they get an easy 'hit single' just from the fanbase rushing to pre-order the album.

They might be ineligible but I really don't think anyone here would complain if they WERE eligible? :P Definitely appears to be a complaint on the basis of the artist only.

And you wouldn't be defending Coldplay if people complained about them :D

(besides I can't speak for others but I certainly would still consider Coldplay's strategy to be loophole-advantage-taking if the songs were chart eligible, I wouldn't complain about the songs charting highly as a result though)

Well I wouldn't be claiming it were chart manipulation...

I know chart manipulation has been going on for decades but it does seem to have flared up a lot in the last year, especially since about 5 years ago McFly were struggling with their old tactics and it was seemingly more difficult. Record companies have caught up with the times I suppose. And this isn't a dig at 5SOS btw just a musing based on recent charts in general.

Great to see Satisfy climbing so high - hope its tomorrow's track of the day on radio 1 to see how much higher it can get :)

None of those were single releases though ('Magic' was an instant grat and the rest were post-album singles which, regardless of whether you count them as OA/OS or not, aren't what I was referring to) :P

EDIT: Actually I suppose 'Happy' could count but that was released in like July of last year and took months to take off.

Whether it's an instant grat, a single release or a post album single it doesn't matter to me if it's available instantly from when you hear the song and it climbs the chart to become a genuine chart hit then I look at it as an on air style release.

What is the first single from Ghost Stories if it's not Magic? I know it was released as an instant grat from the album on iTunes but it was promoted as the brand new single, premiered on Zane Lowe and subsequently Playlisted by radio 1 amongst others and has had a great chart run peaking in the top 10 and selling upwards of 200k copies thus far!

Ella Eyres new single is tonight's Hottest Record
