does this mean 'Sing' will lose a days sales?

No. All of the instant grats are now chart eligible, so any sales they make today whether it's from pre-ordering the album or buying the single will count towards next week's chart. Ed Sheeran's label have cleverly stopped 'Sing' from being an instant grat until now, so that it doesn't lose its chart eligibility.

No, Sing is the nominated single from the album. Plus I think there's a rule that all instant Grat tracks are eligible to chart from 24 hours before the album gets released, so if I'm right there, all of Ed's instant grats are now counting towards next weeks Top 40.

Edit: beaten to it.

Actually, 'One' is the nominated instant grat from the album. 'Sing' has not been an instant grat until today. And yes all of Ed's instant grats are counting towards next week's chart, because for some reason the OCC can't tell the difference between Sunday and Monday sales

 01. Ed Sheeran // Sing

 02. Ella Henderson // Ghost

 03. Oliver Heldens & Becky Hill // Gecko (Overdrive)

 14. Usher // Good Kisser

 18. Example // One More Day (Stay with Me)

 40. Dimitri Vegas, Martin Garrix & Like Mike // Tremor

 43. Austin Mahone // Mmm Yeah (feat. Pitbull)

does seem strange. so a lot of Sing's sales today will count towards both singles and albums chart if buyers use the complete album option!

As far as I understand it, whoever pre-ordered Ed's new album gets the download instantly, as the other tracks.

Tomorrow, people will be downloading the rest of the album and all those previous downloads of tracks that happened because of the pre-order will turn into downloads of digital album. So by that logic, "Sing" being at #1 now just means people are getting that download automatically. Ultimately only solo downloads (without pre-order) will count towards the single's chart. The deletion of the single version of "Sing" is just another way to send Ed Sheeran to the top of the single's iTunes chart and drive the album pre-orders.

Ooh great to see Michelle Williams still top 100, but will she climb already! it'd be a travesty if the criminally underrated 'We Break The Dawn' were to remain her only official top 75 entry

Blatant chart manipulation from Ed Sheeran their then. He'll probably keep quite a lead I would think as well.

Wow this Ed Sheeran campaign really is one huge enormous confusing mess.

I really hope Gecko gets #1. It'll also be quite funny that Becky Hill will be the first ever Top 10 artist from The Voice (not counting Afterglow as she wasn't credited) despite not even making the final.

Bo Bruce and Tyler James need to return!

Leah McFall reached the Top 10 with 'I Will Survive'!

I thought that too. Maybe they meant with an original song.

Leah McFall had a top 10 hit :P

edit: oop late

It is a shame the voice has only had a handful of minor hits.

Leah McFalls top 10 cover

Bo Bruce's top 10 album

Tyler James doubling his top 40 single tally

Andrea's album went top 10 too briefly

Yay Example. Really hope this can be a top 10 hit for him (looks quite likely so far). It really is his best single for quite a while.

i don't see why the pre-order sales of x should be added to single sales of sing this week // after 8 instant grats people effectively have already bought x {8 * £0.99 = £7.92}

so if someone buys x today it'll count as one album purchase and EIGHT single purchases, yet tomorrow it will just count as one album purchase ~ bizarre

the occ need to exclude instant grat sales from sunday + monday if iTunes won't provide them with the correct sales breakdowns, instead of the current ludicrous situation where album pre-orders are being added to a single opening the door for blatant chart manipulation
