Posted June 23, 201411 yr 5jUGAVUwhRU an absolutely wonderful deep house/hip-hop crossover, it's doing alright on pre-orders right now. With R1 support, I'm hoping for a big summer smash.
June 23, 201411 yr It's a nice song. I heard some of his other material and it's quite different to this (more R&B-ish). I mentioned it in another thread, but I think he went touring with Disclosure or something? So he'll probably have some success.
July 21, 201410 yr God this is f***ing fantastic. Absolute jam. A listed at Radio 1 so stands a good shot at being huge.
July 21, 201410 yr This is indeed very good, the dance songs from the second half of the year have already been amazing actually!
July 21, 201410 yr It sounds like it samples the synths from Inner City's 1988 hit "Good Life" at the start. A big nod to the originals of the first house scene movement. :D
July 21, 201410 yr I hope this doing well can be a bit of a ~springboard~ for Chance The Rapper to do well (although I'm not sure if he'd go down this sort of route with his music - then again, he did collaborate with Justin Bieber so who knows )
July 23, 201410 yr This is my personal summer 2014 anthem. Just too glorious to go into great detail. iTunes pre order boffs, does this look likely to go to #1?
July 23, 201410 yr Author This is my personal summer 2014 anthem. Just too glorious to go into great detail. iTunes pre order boffs, does this look likely to go to #1? Currently #112 so I'd say top 5 is guaranteed. ZHU's 'Faded' is released the same day and is currently #56 on pre-orders, so I'd imagine they have it in the bag.
July 23, 201410 yr ZHU going to #1 ahead of MAGIC! seems very unlikely (it probably won't even beat Cheryl to #2), it will definitely be ahead of Vic Mensa in the chart though.
July 23, 201410 yr not convinced DOML will go top 10 at the moment, but a top 15 hit would still be very good regardless!
July 23, 201410 yr Oh. I don't think that's the right result but I'll talk about it in the Faded thread.
August 2, 201410 yr Only just discovered this randomly on youtube today and now I'm seeing it's currently #39 on iTunes :o. I obviously haven't been paying attention. Love it.
August 2, 201410 yr not convinced DOML will go top 10 at the moment, but a top 15 hit would still be very good regardless! :( It had so much potential. Where did it all go wrong?
August 3, 201410 yr Charted at #37 today :( damn you streaming! Although I don't think it's done too much better based on sales alone either.
August 4, 201410 yr I can't believe the song didn't do better. It had so much going for it. The song itself is pretty good (wasn't that fussed at first but it grew on me over time, especially after hearing it in the gym where there's a really good speaker system). It's as commercial as hell, and while house music seems to be on the decline, it's still an easy way to get a hit at the moment. The song got airplay on Radio 1, and in general I heard it quite a lot the past month. He went touring with Disclosure who are very popular at the moment. I even found out some of my friends have been Vic Mensa fans for a while, so it's not like he's some completely unknown person who only I have heard of. Very peculiar imo.
August 4, 201410 yr Genuinely baffled at how this 'only' managed to debut at #37 on Sunday. The pre-orders were all there and the quality of the music is greater than that of many of the 36 tracks above it. Here's hoping it doesn't discourage Vic from making a follow-up down the same route.
