I think mine is about right really, she has a few great albums, a few middling albums and a few terrible albums.

Runner up in this rate is the first album Kylie released with Parlophone and the one that marked her return to camp pop and returned her to the top end of the charts. Albums really do not come camper than this one, we have mentions of ASS, an over the top soap from yesteryear, cocktails and the addition of Robbie Williams. This is a very fun album to listen to and the album only really slows down for the beautiful Bittersweet Goodbye, which does stick out as a result, but it's an essential track nevertheless. This album is home to the divine Spinning Around, itself home to DEM hot pants and the song that brought her back from irrelevance. The album also boasts the uber gay and legendary Your Disco Needs You, a song that will go down in history for name checking Scrabble and also giving us a taste of Kylie's operatic flawlessness.

This means only one thing, 2004's GH set Ultimate Kylie has been hailed the best album released by Kylie. Not hard to see why, this is (or rather, was) the most complete collection of all her songs and the perfect way to begin your collection of Kylie. The only singles not featured are Word Is Out, If You Were With Me Now, Finer Feelings, What Kind Of Fool, Where Is The Feeling, Some Kind Of Bliss and selective singles It's No Secret, Turn It Into Love and Your Disco Needs You. Although some editions feature the latter two tracks. The collection also had two new songs on it, I Believe In You and Giving You Up, both singles also had a new b-side to go with them. So a very good package. The album was a massive success, selling almost a million copies here in the UK and is easily her best selling compilation album yet. No wonder it scored so well in this rate, there is little to nothing to dislike about this GH. Let us not forget the other tracks recorded during this time, Everything I Know and Loving You, which are amazing and worth a listen.

Very happy with that Top 2! :D Light Years is as poppy as pop can get and is incredibly summery. The singles are excellent - 'On a Night Like This' being one of my very favourites - and the title track is one of the best album closers I've heard. 'Koocachoo' is quite naff but I still like it as the whole album oozes nostalgia. As for 'Bittersweet Goodbye', it's a lovely song but it really does stick out on the tracking list. I wouldn't want it to be left off but I'm not sure where it could be placed - perhaps second to last?

There's not much to say about Ultimate Kylie that's not already clear, tt just shows how brilliant Kylie's single discography is. The tracking order is excellent too. It's only a shame 'Some Kind of Bliss' isn't there but with a peak of #22 it's not so surprising.

Thanks Regina for compiling this, very much appreciated! :D (Ultimate Kylie has sold over 1m here though!)

7.5 was very generous of me

Very glad with that winner! Iconic.

Oh well, like I say, fitting. Though I wouldn't count GH's in an album rank/rate anyway so Light Years is the real winner.
Wonderful top 2, Light Years is iconic in my opinion and Ultimate Kylie is among the best Hits collection i have in my own collection.
I Believe in Ultimate Kylie, what a fantastic collection of songs.

Fantastic results very happy with Ultimate Kylie winning and it did actually sell just over a million copies in the UK. Okay it did leave out some gems (Your Disco Needs You, Turn It Into Love, Finer Feelings & Some Kind Of Bliss) but it is still a fantastic collection and the new song on it I Believe In You was amazing and still one of her finest singles ever, and Giving You Up is okay but not great, would have oreffered Made Of Glass on there.

Light Years is still my fave album of hers Spinning Around, On A Night Like This and Your Disco Needs You are pure genius and even have a soft spot for Please Stay which isn't her best, but still fun, other highlights = So Now Goodbye, Disco Down, Butterfly, Under The Influence Of Love and Light Years are perfection. Great results.

Light Years achieving her highest rated studio album is wonderful as it is full of wonderful gems, smiles, fun and great pop.

LY being her highest studio album here is an outrage tbh.
Is it though? It's one of her most cohesive bodies of work and surely if we are rating albums that's an important aspect of making a good album?
  • Author
Being cohesive doesn't make it good, not to me :P the songs can easily end up washing into one another and not having any identity. LY is decent, but she has other albums that flow better and work better as a full body of work.

I do agree that overly cohesive sounding can lead to an album that's not that good (ie. Fever), but for me Light Years has a distinct sound (camp pop goodness) and plays with most of the variants within that from the gay anthem (Your Disco Needs You) to the sultry club cuts (Light Years, Butterfly) via bubblegum pop (On A Night Like This, Spinning Around).

Or something, I didn't want to start mixing metaphors.

Still reeling from the lack of love for 1991s greatest album.

?

Late to the party, but I am glad Light Years is the highest rated album here. It's perfect unashamed pop campness and the perfect party soundtrack.

Ultimate Kylie is as good as GH collections get.
