July 22, 201410 yr all the ones SevenSeize mentioned are great! here's another one: http://www.officialcharts.com/archive-chart/_/1/2013-07-06/ Icona Pop finally release their song and go to #1. The Wanted underperform. will.i.am gets a surprise smash off the back of The Voice UK, and Chase & Status mess up the release of their comeback single leading to it entering at #15 (thanks to it appearing on a Clubland compilation and not album only)
July 22, 201410 yr The Michael Jackson top 40 the first full week after his death was amazing to listen to. Amy & Whitney ones were also good.
July 22, 201410 yr Christmas '96.... Eternal at number 40. Louise at number 39. I always remember Mark Goodier saying "former colleagues reunited for Christmas" on the countdown. Further up the chart Spice at number 1 single & album/say you'll be there going back up.
July 22, 201410 yr The first Sunday top 40 with Bruno in 1987, with sales up till midnight the day before.
July 22, 201410 yr Just last year, first Daft Punk/Pharrell Williams storm to number one with what must be one of the best comebacks, then Pharrell Williams goes to number one with blurred lines, and has the number 1 and number 3 single of the week.
July 25, 201410 yr Author What were the first week sales of Bleeding Love Vs. Rule The World? Something like 218k and 97k from memory, but i could be a few thousand out with both totals.
July 25, 201410 yr gooddelta is spot on actually! SINGLES 218805 Leona Lewis 97832 Take That 39737 McFly 36481 Sugababes 32901 Mark Ronson 32134 Britney Spears (6) 23689 Timbaland (7) 23013 Freemasons (8) 14975 Hoosiers (9) 14012 Oasis (10) 12894 Ida Corr (11) 12725 Mika (12) 11933 Shayne Ward (13) 11782 50 Cent (14) 10551 Plain White T’s (15)
July 25, 201410 yr I would have loved to follow the charts when Bleeding Love was released. I remember last year being amazed by the slayage of Get Lucky, but Bleeding Love's sales were on a whole other level to that as it was released when sales were much lower. 2007 in general had lots of great chart hits, but I think Umbrella being #1 for 10 weeks would've probably got annoying after a while.
July 25, 201410 yr Really? I was under the impression it was extremely close, not Leona outselling by over 2 to 1!! Edited July 25, 201410 yr by Dobbo
July 25, 201410 yr Author There was never really any battle, as Leona absolutely thrashed Take That but in terms of classic status they're pretty even now in the UK, and Rule The World is catching up on total sales too.
July 25, 201410 yr one other to mention could be that Diamonds/Live While We're Young week from October 2012. It was quite the star-studded Top 5, where you also had Ellie Goulding, Adele's bond theme getting a late Friday release, and one of the biggest tracks of that year in 'Gangnam Style'!
July 25, 201410 yr Mine is April 15 2000 When All the Top six were new entries with Mel c At 7 And Westlife at 8 this was the week after westlife stole a second week at no 1 for melc 6 Locknload 5 bad touch 4 steps 3 r ashcroft 2 sweet female 1 Craig David

It was quite the star-studded Top 5, where you also had Ellie Goulding, Adele's bond theme getting a late Friday release, and one of the biggest tracks of that year in 'Gangnam Style'! That was a good week indeed :o Was quite crazy to see 1D go from seemingly a guaranteed #1 to a #3, and from memory the whole top 5 sold over 50k which was excellent.
July 25, 201410 yr gooddelta is spot on actually! Iirc, 30 - 35k was about right for a number 1 in 2007 (apart from the biggest releases - most of 'Umbrella's weeks were around the 30k mark). McFly could have feasably had there last #1 with 'The Heart Never Lies' if 2 freakishly high selling releases weren't also out during the same week!
July 25, 201410 yr My favourite chart week would be the one in autumn '98.. Gym and Tonic toppled from no. 1 and down to 6th position ... and a brand new top 5 - 5 - Thank u - Alanis Morissette : First single post the juggernaut, which was Jagged Little Pill 4 - I just want to be loved - Culture Club : Long awaited comeback single 3 - Sweetest Thing - U2 : First single (albeit having being recorded many years before) after their 'Pop' era 2 - Outside - George Michael - Comeback single after that scandal 1 - Believe - Cher : No comments needed Agreed! Great Top 5! Edited July 25, 201410 yr by MusicMaster

July 25, 201410 yr Although Bleeding Love is much better and Rule the World makes no sense. And that was back in 2007? :OOO What!! I still remember it and the massive impact it got like it was yesterday, perfect Xmas song! Was really cosy with it on tv and the fire on, and really signaled the start of winter and the ballad season.
