Texas kicks off this round with a track which reached Number 4 in the UK Charts. The B Side to this single was a special remix of 'Say What You Want (All Day Everyday)' featuring Method Man and Wu Tang Clang. Might be worth checking out on youtube if your interested? Next up we have Louise, who was a former from Eternal with her take on the 70's disco classic by the Average White Band. It charted at Number 10.

British Electronic group The All Seeing I's take on Sonny & Cher's 1967 classic is next up at 28, and at 27 is a track I'm surprised many Buzzjackers are unaware of. I thought Camisra's Let Me Show You was quite a well known dance classic. It's been used in the likes of Spaced and was quite a big club track at the time. It reached Number 5 in Feb 1998.

1997's BBC Children In Need single is next up at 26. It was the B Side to Lou Reed's 'Walk On The Wild Side', but got re-recorded in 1997 and featured Lou Reed himself alongside David Bowie, Bono from U2, Elton John, Boyzone, Gabrielle, Tom Jones amongst lots of other big stars. As of 2012 it has sold 1.55 million copies in the UK.

I'm shocked to see Steps only at 25 on this countdown, I was expecting 5,6,7,8 to be Top 10 at least. This was the first single from Steps, peaking at Number 14 in the charts and becoming one of them cheesy party tracks for when you've had one or ten beverages. ;)

The first of two Robbie Williams tracks is next up at 24. This is far too low for one of his best ever singles imo. This was the fifth and final single from his debut solo album 'Life Thru a Lens' peaking at Number 3 in the Top 40 in 1998.

1997 saw the second Bond film to star Pierce Brosnan hit the cinemas, and Sheryl Crow was picked to do the theme for the film. 'Tomorrow Never Dies' reached Number 12 in the charts. Next up it's one hit wonder Billie Myres with 'Kiss The Rain', which raced into the Top 5 in March 1998 and Ultra Nate followed up 'Free' with 'Found A Cure', which is at the halfway point on our countdown today.

steps finishing that low is an injustice :( it was to be expected though with the amount of -1s it somehow got.
There are only about 2 STEPS songs worse than '5, 6, 7, 8'. SO overrated. It's a "classic, cheesy party dancefloor filler" but to listen to it out of choice? No thank you.
5,6,7,8 has aged badly even for a Steps song but let's not forget it also faces more than 10 stone cold classics to come. The quality of this album was so good, I never saw them coming near top 10.

The breakthrough hit from the welsh group was 'Mulder & Scully', which went to Number 3 in January 1998.....adn just one place higher is a track which features Cerys Mathews from Catatonia from Space. Bit of a random track this is. It's about a couple saved from murdering each other by a mutual passion for the music of Tom Jones. It went on to reach Number 4 in the charts.

Tin Tin Out's cover of The Sunday's 'Here's Where The Story Ends' was a Top 10 hit in March 1998, and won the Ivor Norvello award for best Contemporary song in 1999. Radiohead are next up with 'No Surprises'. Taken from their classic album 'OK Computer', Radiohead were one without doubt one of the biggest bands of the 90's.

Stalling just outside the Top 15 is LeAnne Rimes with 'How Do I Live'. Reaching Number 7 in the UK charts, it stuck around in the chart for 32 weeks.

How Do I Live should be at least top 10, it's a bit higher than I thought though.

Did Gooddelta give two 11's? :o One to Steps and one to Tin Tin Out? :P

Naughty, naughty. :kink:

So just making it into the Top 15 is the track that saved Robbie's solo career. Peaking at Number 4 in the singles chart, it turned Robbie from a flopstar to a popstar.

Next up is a Wildchild, who's hit Renegade Master already features on Now 32, but it charted again at Number 3 in 1998 thanks to the magic touch of Fatboy Slim and makes another appearance on Now 39. Another big dancehit of 1998 is next from Bamboo, which sampled KC and The Sunshine Band's 70's disco classic 'Get Down Tonight'. It went to Number 2 in the chart.

The Verve's third Top 10 single from the classic album 'Urban Hymnes' was Lucky Man. It served as the follow up to the big hits 'Bittersweet Symphony' and 'Drugs Don't Work', and it's very nice to see this get this high on the rate. :)

Just missing out on the Top 10, it's the biggest selling dance track of the 90's, according to Gazza's recent countdown in the chart forum from Run DMC and Jason Nevins. I'm shocked this missed out on the Top 10 as it's a very popular song.

No he never. I put the Tin Tin Out highest and lowest rates for Steps, as they're both Track 10, but on different discs. Gooddelta gave 11 to Tin Tin Out. Thanks for pointing out - will ammend. :)

I did definitely not give 'it's like that' my 11 either

10. Spice Girls - Stop (7.70)

((11), fgiboy2511), ((-1), GRIFF)

Held off Number 1 by Run DMC vs Jason Nevins, 'Stop' was taken from the Spice Girls movie 'Spiceworld'.

9. Aqua - Barbie Girl (7.80)

((11), Rob Steel), ((-1) gavindeejay)

Looks like I'm the only one on Buzzjack who had a younger sister who played this constantly over and over again when it was out. 'Barbie Girl' was a massive Number 1 smash hit for Aqua.

'Stop' should have been top 2! :(

Glad to see it in the top 10 though, but I find it very under appreciated here on Buzzjack :(

You didn't, it's 3 on my sheet. I got you mixed up with Dobbo for some reason, sorry. :P

A Sash! track that entered at Number 3, not Number 2. :o This was the lead single to be taken from the album 'Life Goes on' in March 1998.

6. Lutricia McNeal - Ain't That Just The Way (8.19)

((10), Tylky, gavindeejay, Rob Steel, Niall Minogue, jsliv, MyKindOfLove, Jester, darkstar79), ((5), Ultraviolence, Luciano, GRIFF)

Originally recorded in the 70's by Barbi Benton, it was a big hit for Lutricia McNeal in 1998. It feels a little lost on the back end of disc 2 to me, but great song!

5. Lighthouse Family - High (8.21)

((11), jonjo, Chez Wombat), ((2), darkstar79)

Fantastic to see this in the Top 5. It was the second single from the album 'Postcards From Heaven', and reached Number 4 in the UK charts.

Great duo there. 'Stranded' > 'Ain't That Just the Way' for me, but it's still lovely and 'High' is one of my favourite songs of all time. So beautifully uplifting!

4. Cornershop - Brimful of Asha (Norman Cook Remix) (8.26)

((11), Jade, Popmaster, مدهش*) (O), fgiboy2511)

First released in 1997, it failed to chart until it had been given a makeover by Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim). It went straight to Number 1 in Februaury 1998.

3. Natalie Imbrulglia - Torn (8.42)

((11), NickF1, Ultraviolence), ((0), GRIFF, MyKindOfLove)

After rising to fame playing Beth in Neighbours, Natalie peaked at Number 2 with the million seller 'Torn'.

I was hoping those two would be the top 2 after steps crashed out :( oh well, all saints to win now. that janet jackson song is really overrated, although it's not her worst I guess.

2. Janet Jackson - Together Again (8.54)

((11), jsliv), ((0), GRIFF)

Lifted from Janets sixth solo studio album 'The Velvet Rope', Together Again is a great track which still sounds fresh today. It peaked at Number 4 in the UK charts.

1. All Saints - Never Ever (8.57)

((10), Liam, gooddelta, Rob Steel, Chez Wombat, Popmaster, Niall Minogue, Luciano, fgiboy2511, Jester, darkstar79, Riser), ((4), gavindeejay)

A classic from All Saints that finally reached number 1 during it's 9th week in the chart. It's been very a close race this week for the Number 1 this week, and the All Saints just make it.

Thanks to those who voted this week. :D
