Biography

Although the first solo single from soul-inspired, London-born artist Sam Smith was issued in early 2013, it was his soaring vocal contribution to Disclosure's October 2012 U.K. garage track "Latch" which brought him to most people's attention. For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes

This guy is a personality free zone

Most of the night time specialist presenters are personality free. Their shows are more about the music, not the chatter.

Now Dan+Phil have gone, does that mean Jameela will do the albums chart. Oops, even more room for mistakes.

Wish Royal Blood remained at #1, such a good quality album. Not listened to Sam's and doubt I will but glad INTOO took off, #5 would be a great peak. Glad Iggy/Rita is up to #4 too, higher than Fancy :cheer:

Well, yay for INTOO making the top 5, his best solo track, but curse him for knocking off Royal Blood :P
a pretty stonking week for sam smith then~
Hardly any waffle when the album chart was announced.
I'm actually quite shocked at how much I like 'I'm Not the Only One' - really good stuff, his best solo single to date by far! Kind of reminds me of 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This' a little bit.

Wow, a post-album single going to Top 5 is very impressive these days. Especially when the album has been so huge. This is a massive achievement for him, and very well deserved, as INTOO is the best song on the album by a mile.

And #1 in the albums again! So pleased for all his success. A true talent.

Black Widow has done it :cheer:

Great to see izzy azergla have another top 5 hit to her name.

INTOO is quite good too, wasn't expecting it to go top 5 actually :o Sam Smith really is huge this year!

#4 doesn't really look that good for Maroon 5, especially as their last album got to number 1 I think, plus they were behind three other albums that have already been out a few weeks and in a low sales environment!
I'm so not feeling "I'm Not The Only One", sounds way to much like "Stay With Me"
INTOO getting the success it deserves.

Biography

In one of the more unlikely crossover success stories, blonde Australian beauty Iggy Azalea (born Amethyst Amelia Kelly) segued from a high-profile modeling career to become a southern hip-hop star. Influenced in her childhood by Missy Elliott, TLC, and Tupac Shaqur, she moved to the states in 2006 at age 16, stating that she was drawn to the birthplace of rap. Moving from Miami to Houston to Atlanta, she absorbed the Southern-style drawl of her surroundings and released a trap-inspired mixtape titled Ignorant Art in 2011, shortly after relocating to Los Angeles. A video for her song "Pu$$y" was uploaded to the internet and became a YouTube favorite due to its explicit nature. Around this time, Azalea's blossoming relationship with rising rapper A$AP Rocky earned her some headlines (she tattooed the title of his debut album on her knuckles), but her recording career stalled when plans to work with T.I. fell through due to label conflicts. In spring of 2012, she signed to Wilhelmina Models International and pursued modeling full-time, landing a job as the "New Face of Levi's Jeans." Later that year, her musical stock skyrocketed when XXL Magazine put her on the cover of their annual Top 10 Freshman issue, alongside Danny Brown, Roscoe Dash, and French Montana. As the first female, non-American rapper to make the list, serious hip-hop fans took notice, including Diplo, who hooked up with Azalea for her follow-up mixtape, TrapGold, before she signed to Mercury Records for her official 2013 debut The New Classic. - iTunes

Overexposed reached #2. But yeah, this album's peak is disappointing given the circumstances.

'Black Widow' has grown on me, although I'm not a fan of the instrumental part, it just falls flat. However, I love Rita Ora's part (minus "you used to be thirsty for me" *shudders*). Yay!
