Probably 'Beneath Your Beautiful' and before that, 'Spectrum'. Going even further back, 'Titanium' and maybe Jessie J's 'Domino'.

Yeah I guess 'Beneath Your Beautiful' was the last one then. I wonder when we'll get another.

A few new Instant Grats have been released today:-

12. Damian Rice - I Don't Want To Change You :ne: (IG)

14. Olly Murs - Never Been Better :ne: (IG)

20. Taylor Swift - Style :ne:

24. One Republic - Love Runs Out

27. One Republic - I Lived

45. Foo Fighters - The Feast and the Famine

57. Foo Fighters - Something From Nothing

Is Damien chart eligible? He is playlisted with that song on radio 2 i think and its the official first track from an album out next week i think?

Not a fan of Ed but it's always good to see a post album release go to no.1. Too rare and occurrence these days. I loved Pink making it with Just Like A Pill and had hoped she'd do it with Just Give Me A Reason. Daniel Bedingfield also managed two post album no.1s didn't he?

Yep, If You're Not The One was the third single and Never Gonna Leave Your Side was fifth. Although wasn't NGLYS a re-release single actually? So that (and Spectrum arguably as it's a remix so it's a new version) kind of doesn't count in the same way.

I think he did. I can't remember off the top of my head when the album was out. I know it was ages after 'Gotta Get Through This'. I'm pretty sure it was about the same time as 'If Your Not The One', but might of came out just after 'James Dean' a few months before. Either way 'Gotta Get Through This' had 3 Number 1 hit singles on it.

A few recent examples I can think of are:

Coldplay - Paradise

David Guetta - Titanium

Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling

Lady GaGa & Beyonce - Telephone

As far as I remember 'Never Gonna Leave Your Side' was the previously unreleased lead single off the deluxe re-release version of the album, so you can't count it as a post-album Number 1.
Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling

And Meet Me Halfway

And Meet Me Halfway

Oh yes. I forgot that song even existed

Here are a few more:

Gorillaz - Dare

Oasis - The Importance Of Being Idle

'Counting Stars' was technically post-album, was it not?

I really think 'Thinking Out Loud' is the most impressive one of all those mentioned in recent times though, considering the high sales of the album, it being the second post-album single, the lack of remix/gimmick and lack of featured artist which would widen the appeal. I guess 'The Lazy Song' and 'Meet Me Halfway' were similarly impressive under (most of) those criteria.

Looks to me like 'Style' was another one of those occasional songs that get treated as instant grats when the album is released, it jumped straight from 0 to 0.1525 on Kworb and is already decreasing. Hopefully those instant grat sales won't be reported now as per the apparent new iTunes rules :P I expect it will sell a decent amount as a cherrypick anyway though.

18. Welcome To New York - Taylor Swift

21. Style - Taylor Swift

50. Out of the Woods - Taylor Swift

66. Blank Space - Taylor Swift

Yes, 'Counting Stars' was technically post-album but prior to its release the album had hardly sold anything - so yes if we're being technical I suppose we have to count it.

'The Lazy Song' was a very slightly remixed version from the album so again if we're being strictly technical we should discount that, but I don't think it was different enough to the album version so I'm counting it!

I'm fairly certain the version that got to #1 on iTunes was just the album version. (There isn't even a single/EP for the track on iTunes, though it's possible there was one at the time that I've forgotten about which has since been deleted I guess).

'Meet Me Halfway' looks like the most comparable #1 to 'Thinking Out Loud', being a second post-album single without a new version or a featured artist. Of course both were also propelled to #1 by an X Factor performance as well.

The T.I.M.E. (Dirty Bit) was also, BEP have a habit of it!

That was the first single from 'The Beginning'.

Oh, whoops.

Another 2 I remembered:

Madonna - Sorry

PCD - Stickwitu

Not certain on the latter though.

Yeah that's possible. I've just listened to them both and the album version is definitely different - for example, it doesn't have the whistling bit after the line "Today I don't feel like doing anything".

Let's not forget Spice Girls selling a million with 2 Become 1 well after Spice had already shifted more.
