Oh, does this playlist take effect immediately? I was under the impression that 'November 10th' was the date that it's instated.

Oh, NOW I get what you mean.

R1's stubborn hatred for Robbie runs so deep that they'll snub one of their favourite artists.

Avicii is not exactly 'one of their favourite artists' unless you would say the same of literally every other artist they've playlisted multiple singles from. His last single didn't even make the A-List.

YAY for "One Day" getting added. Really come round to that since his live performances of it!

The Jonathan Ross one? First time I heard the song and I adored it! So glad it's on the playlist, for the fact we can hear it and that it confirms it's single #4.

A few months ago he was like number 5 on their most played artists of the year. He's at like #16 now, but considering the hundreds of artists they play, he's been quite popular with them I'd say. He's #39 in their most played artists of last 9 years which is impressive since he's only really been getting playlisted since 2011. Katy Perry is R1's most popular artist of the year and her last song was only B-listed too.

That one and his performances at Glastonbury, R1 Big Weekend & Jools Holland. It's one of those songs that sounds way better live than the studio recording!

Robbie, Kylie, Madonna, Britney yet Pharrell and Mary J. Blige are still deemed relevant? Don't get their stupid ageism policies.

In all fairness, it's not hard to see why Pharrell is deemed more relevant than Robbie and Kylie (as much as I love the latter and am not keen on Pharrell), not just "ageism" in those cases at least.

People have to understand it's not just age but also music type, hit potential and many other factors that go into play listing an artist.

Anyway great to see Ten Tonne Skeleton on the list - each new single released by Royal Blood becomes my new favourite off the great debut album

Yeah I don't know why people always go on about ageism, the fact that they playlist MJB and Pharrell proves that it's actually notthing to do with artist age, but more to do with what they think people of a certain age want to hear.

Anyway I'm happy that 'Busy Earnin'' has been moved up to the A-list as Jungle haven't been A-listed before, and it's a great song, let's hope it can actually do something now. Also I'm surprised Bastille have stalled on the C-list (at least for this week), that's not like Radio 1 at all

They are obviously exceptions, Pharrell has raised his profile with featuring on two of last year's mega hits which culminated in 'Happy' and being the "man of the moment", Mary also has the Disclosure association this time around.

I think they just heard the new Mary J track and thought it sounds fresh which it does and its the type of song that would appeal to the age group. I dont think its anything to do with her featuring on thet Disclosure re-release remix!

I think the Disclosure thing has plenty to do with it - almost every time they play it they comment on the Disclosure link. There have been plenty of other songs that have fitted into the 'fresh and type of song that would appeal' category that they've unfairly snubbed.

Well i guess we will never beable to prove either views on this one but i just think being on a disclosure remix which was big enough at the time but not huge isnt necessarily the reason why the would or wouldnt playlist this new material by her.
Yeah I think the Disclosure connection definitely helps and yeah I realise Pharrel and MJB are the exceptions but what I meant was it's not just an 'artist age' thing, the music has to appeal to younger people, that's all it is. There are plenty of younger artists who don't get playlisted because their music doesn't "fit" the target audience - Christina Perri & Amelia Lily to name two examples off the top of my head.
Yeh I agree plenty of example too on the 'older' front like Eminem, Jay-Z & the likes!

Robbie's "Candy" becoming his second best selling single behind "Angels" didn't happen because it appealed to only older people. So that theory doesn't exactly apply either.

Well I think you're incorrect. The Disclosure link has helped it hugely here, least of all because her vocal addition to the 'F For You' remix last year was big with R1/their 'audience'.

I'm not disputing that 'Candy' appealed to younger people - I'm just explaining what I think Radio 1's thought process is, I'm certainly not agreeing with them.

Anyway this debate has been dragging on for months, basically it's up to Radio 1 who they choose to playlist, so let's just accept that and move on :)

I'm no fan of Cheryl, but I do find it a bit ridiculous that they won't even A-list her when it looks likely that she'll go to number 1. I mean, 'Gust of Wind' staying even though it's already flopped - really?

Why is it Ridiculous? They don't "have" to A List anything and anyway I bet its getting mass plays on commercial stations so it's not like it's missing them. The thing I like about R1 is the fact it A List's different genres and not all pop.
