I can't help but feel a bit sorry for Union J. I know this time last week a top 3 single would've seemed ludicrous so it's a great result but to lose out to an old albeit brilliant song must be a little crushing for them.

Why does this forum hate Ed Sheeran, he isn't the most revolutionary artist, but he has a great soulful voice and releases good/great tunes for the most part?

I don't hate, I just think there are people out there who do what he does but WAY better. Like James Vincent McMorrow, like Ben Howard. They have a lot more about them. Ed's pleasant to listen to but it's all quite shallow IMO

I hope Mariah Carey and The Pogues don't have streaming on their respective sides
Because he hasn't released 'Photograph' as a single yet! :drama:

In all seriousness though, his new era really isn't that bad. I would actually go as far as saying both 'Sing' and 'Don't' are my two least favourites on that album! TOL as has been said before on here, sounds like a lost soul classic that would have been eaten up by radio regardless of who sung it. 'x' is probably the biggest surprise of the year for me as I found his debut (bar one or two tracks) got boring after just two full listens or so.

"Afire Love" is screaming out for a single release. It's definitely the most obvious choice left on the album.

Wow go Hozier up to 29 as its download seems to have climbed back up to the top 40 on itunes whereas it didnt do that last week - new peak anyone?

I hear its top 5 in America too which is ridiculous!!

I think Hozier will be soundbedding a couple of "EOY montages" over the new year. It'll be the soundtrack to quite a few big film trailers too I reckon, it just has that sound, so a new peak is defintiely on its way I think!
Ed Sheeran comes across as the opposite of 'arrogant/smug' if anything in every interview I've heard of his...
Please advise Susan Boyle rank on Friday update.

Thanks. :) :) :) :)

Where are poor Cheryl and Nicole?

If anywhere, lol.

Cheryl

Single #37

Album #49

Nicole don't ask

Santa Martin has Cheek to Cheek climbed? Thanks in advance

I'd love to see "Budapest" drop out in favour of "Listen To The Man". Let's hope it enters this Sunday but it might not happen as lots of songs have streaming or NOW 89 on their side or both. If it doesn't enter this Sunday, let's hope it enters next Sunday

Indeed, if it was held back i would easily have done a 'Budapest' imo but im liking the prolonged weeks in the chart with a lowish peak. Makes it exciting and total sales will be huge anyway!

Ed Sheeran sold another 7k for yesterday his streams are 24%, whereas Union J physicals cater around 12% the rest on downloads.

In the albums Ed Sheeran has done another 10k+, amazing sales, TT dropping a far bit by 8k for yesterday. Ed Sheeran is looking to displace AC/DC by Sunday.

Goodness only 8k yesterday for TT 3 weeks before xmas?? Surely saturday sales will be 10k at the least? Ed should do around 15k on saturday, just short of 100k for the week.

Hope TOL can reach 60k!

Anyone know where James Bay is this week - i see his EP on itunes has soared again following the Sound of has been announced and hes held up decently during the week?

Dont is one of the most pretentious and smug songs I have heard this year tbh.

I don't understand that criticism, really! I actually think it's very honest because he's clearly bitter about the subject matter (and who wants to come across as bitter or jealous, even though it's a relatively normal state of mind for people to have?). As far as being 'smug', he didn't get the girl, he's pissed off and felt he was screwed over - there's not a lot to be smug about! I guess some lines like 'It's a bit too much too late if I'm honest' can be perceived as being sactimonious but I think they're very relatable for people in that context. When people feel they've been let down by others, they're often bitter and feel morally superior. That's why I think it's quite an honest song overall.

And yeah, I agree with the majority about him always seeming down-to-earth and affable in interviews.

It's a great tune. I've downloaded it

Of course having a big hit in the US won't necessarily translate to having a big hit in the UK, but, (and I hardly ever watch the music video channels) I wonder if it's not as big over here as it might have been, if, and I'm guessing here, there's maybe less airing of a video, which shows 2 men snogging???

I Googled 'Ed Sheeran interview' and literally the first quote I saw from him is about him thinking his life is not interesting enough to write an autobiography
