The Pogues are victorious in the actual chart regardless of this poll anyway ~

Higher in the streaming chart though, modern relevance! *.* People can't get enough of listening to Mariah *.*

Mariah is also slaying the multichart and has been consistently higher than The Pogues, proving she is Buzzjack's favourite! :cheer:

Mariah's fans are just cheapskates, The Pogues' fans are listening to their downloaded copies that they spent money on x

buzzjack's only a minority though, clearly Fairytale of New York was the NATION's favourite :jump:

I have to say I can't really recall having heard 'Fairytale of New York' prior to its 2005 re-release. I probably did, but didn't pay it much attention until it was back in the charts & an annual re-entry. I eventually downloaded it legally in December 2007 (don't tell Bré x).

I'd certainly heard them both but I don't recall either The Pogues or Mariah being as ubiquitous as they are these days until the mid-noughties. I remember first becoming obsessed with AIWFCIY in 2000 when I watched a Christmas edition of Top Of The Pops 2, I certainly hadn't been fully aware of the song in the six years prior to that for whatever reason.

Even in the late 90s when both should have been established by that point it was pretty much still ALL about the likes of Slade, Wizzard, Band Aid, John & Yoko and Paul McCartney, unless my memory is serving me incorrectly.

(Can you tell that this post is me clutching at straws in the vain hope that one day Leona's One More Sleep will get a similar boost to legendary status)

I'm pretty sure the fact Mariah is doing so well on spotify because it is more of a 'worldwide' basis to the chart whereas The Pogues is a favourite in the UK.

What did people listen to at Xmas in 1970?? Bing, Nat & Dean?

Jameela says otherwise! :jump:

Jameela says otherwise!

And all her chart "facts" are wrong, so.....

I think Mariah was boosted a bit by Love Actually back in 2003 then kind of built up after that. I agree with how it was unheard for a few years as it was barely know after 1994/5 for years really.

As for the Pogues, the re-release after Kirsty's death was enough to time it into downloads, but I guess it was a bit of a classic already.

Back to stalemate  64-64 as it stands - who's gonna break the tie again? (Would actually be kinda cool if the songs remained tied come the close of the poll - though if we could get a few more votes for The Pogues that'd be better).

EDIT: The Pogues now leading by 2 votes again, this has been a fruitful thread bump *.* Don't think I've ever seen a poll so close on here though!

Fairytale of New York [ 66 ] ** [50.77%]

All I Want For Christmas Is You [ 64 ] ** [49.23%]

a mini lead in the last few minutes. :w00t:

I suspect the creation of alliasses by our dear friend Bre

Even if that were true (it isn't), it'd only be to counter the (actually true) creation of Joseph aliases which put Mariah ahead in the first place ~

I picked null vote ages ago for this. Couldn't possibly choose between them therefore the outcome matters not.

You have chosen well, Buzzjack.
