December 7, 201410 yr Leona was the last original Christmas song to chart very highly, but it wasn't as successful as The Darkness/Band Aid 20 in terms of chart run/sales. Edited December 7, 201410 yr by FrostytheWallaby
December 7, 201410 yr It was the Darkness in 2003, didn't that sell 200,000 copies in its first week?
December 7, 201410 yr Leona Lewis-One More Sleep End of thread. This. Before that, Christmas Lights. Before that, Christmas Time (Dinet Leet The Bells Eeeynd) OOh, will go listen 2 dat nar.
December 7, 201410 yr The last one would probably be Leona. Sadly it isn't getting the same support it had last year, which is a shame, but I suppose there is still plenty of time.
December 7, 201410 yr The last one to have an iconic status or was a worldwide smash must be 'All I Want for Christmas is You'! :o
December 7, 201410 yr Last proper 100% everyone-knows classic: Mariah in 1994, and even that only really kicked off in the download era. Last major festive hit the majority will know: The Darkness, 2003, but in airplay terms it's still not up there with the usual suspects. Coldplay and Leona, time will tell. Both get a bit of airplay but don't seem established enough yet.
December 8, 201410 yr Leona Lewis. It spent two weeks at #3 last year and a while at #1 on iTunes. In the USA, maybe Kelly Clarkson's "Underneath The Tree".
December 8, 201410 yr Leona's. Sadly sales were lower last December than when The Darkness released that song. It was #1 on Airplay, #1 on iTunes and spent 2 weeks in the UK top 3 over Christmas. I wouldn't say Coldplay's 'Christmas Lights' was much more than a minor hit to be honest, as much as I like it.
December 8, 201410 yr The last one would probably be Leona. Sadly it isn't getting the same support it had last year, which is a shame, but I suppose there is still plenty of time. ....same could probably have been said of "All I want for Christmas is you" in the 96-99 period : (or fairy tale of New York from 88 to mid 90s) - takes a long time to know what's really a classic and what isn't
December 8, 201410 yr I think Love Actually boosted 'All I Want For Christmas Is You''s popularity quite a bit in the UK back in 2003.
December 8, 201410 yr I think Christmas Lights will go on to be a festive classic due to the status of the band that made it. Its also great and the chart position would have been higher had it not been released on a wednesday!
