It was supposed to be getting backdated but perhaps that was only for sales comparison purposes for weekly and quarterly sales throughout the year? However it looks like the OCC have been providing UKC+ with a revised YTD chart with streaming sales included, backdated to the start of the year.

I think it's simpler than this- I think what they have given us today is the sales only. They may have made a mistake and forgot to add the streams altogether before giving it to Radio 1- or this is the way they are doing the EOY charts. Other info they have given tonight only gives the "sales" tallies (debut hits of the year etc) for tracks- it's the only way it all tallies up

It's been said already today but I've really enjoyed the chart today and sharing it with you all and it actually sounded good even the tracks I've heard a million times

I'm really happy to have been allowed to be a host today, my hour flew by! And to all the hosts I think we did a great job and no delays or issues which I wasn't expecting

I now appreciate (not that I didn't already!) just how much work goes into the site to make it the place it is and I look forward to sharing the music of 2015 with you all once again!

On the OCC they did two top 100 of the year:

http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/t...s-of-2014-3389/ (Sales alone)

http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/t...-revealed-3386/ (Streaming included)

Also, I'd like to point out that Thinking Out Loud combined figure is 1.01 million, but his sales are under 744,000 (Timber is #6 with 744,000 sales and Thinking Out Loud is #7 with an unannounced number, and Ghost is at #5 with 757,000. Happy's sales are of 1.5 million, Rather Be have sales of 1.13 million, and I don't know the sales for All Of Me (#3) and Waves (#4), but they're likely to be between 1,000,000 and 757,000. Let It Go is in the top 10 on sales alone, with 636,000.

Oh dear so now they are producing two charts and not really stating which is the one they consider the definitive one. They obviously give the sales only one to charts+ but i really think they need to make a firm decision and stick with it on the streaming issue. Producing multiple eoy charts isn't helping in my opinion.

In this article, OCC states Waves sales total as 815k - althought confusingly give a lower total for Ghost (744k)

That's my understanding of it, ideally the sales chart needs to be combined with rest.

There's a third EOY chart which is in the latest issue of UKChartsPlus. 'Let It Go' is at number 9 while Meghan is at number 10.

Confusion!

^

I assume the UKC+ EOY chart must include streaming data from the beginning of 2014.

Well OCC I suppose that helps a bit more

I think they need to buck up their ideas a bit though with this streaming problem

The YTD / EOY chart for this year will be straightforward as streaming is included from day 1. It just appears the OCC don't know what to do with the EOY chart for last year so to hedge their bets they've produced 3 EOY charts for 2014!

There's the added confusion that vidapper referred to the other day that 2014 has 53 chart weeks, meaning all sales up until Saturday 3rd January at midnight will count to the 2014 EOY. So none of the.EOY charts published so far are the final ones anyway!

:drama: they had to make things difficult for themselves, would have been better they entered streaming sales from day 1, or they could have waited till the start of 2015. Another 6 months wouldn't have hurt.

Also there is 4 days sales missing from this week to add, unless they are counting this week's chart towards 2015. More confusion.

Hmm. I might email rhe OCC and ask them how they are proceeding with this going forward. Too much confusion!

There could be even more confusion soon - David Joseph, the guy in charge of Universal Music in the UK and the main guy behind the move to incorporate streaming into the singles chart, has now said he wants streaming introduced into the albums chart. Given that this has now happened in the US Billboard Albums chart I'm guessing it will be six months maximum before it also happens in the UK...

I did that last night, didn't get a reply but this morning on OCC site those charts appeared, probably that was my reply. At least they could have acknowledged me mind you they could be on their break, another email might do the trick I guess.

Yes, then having a fresh 2015 sales+Stream chart the whole year and not messing up the EOY charts with half the year sales and half S+S :drama:

Good luck with that! Their email response it terrible, although IIRC I had a reply from them once :cheer:

I somehow doubt there was anyone at the OCC monitoring emails last night. The additional charts will have been sent to the press yesterday so that they could appear in today's papers.

No. I think they came in at midnight on New Year's Eve to look at Martin's e-mail, and then just as Big Ben chimed issued the charts as requested.

On a serious point - the whole thing is a complete mess. They should have kept 2014's chart as sales-only and then started adding streams to the EOY chart from today. Also, with the technology they now have available why don't they separate the EOY chart from the weekly charts and use the sales period from 0.01 on 1 Jan to 23.59 on 31 Dec, rather than arbitrary weeks? Saves this whole '53 weeks' confusion.

A press release from the BPI has just confirmed that the chart year ended on 27 December 2014.

http://www.bpi.co.uk/media-centre/british-...es-in-2014.aspx

It's in the "Notes For Editors" section at the end of the press release:

2. The reporting year is based on the Official Charts sales data weeks 1-52 (this year ending 27 December 2014)

It means we are in Week 1 of 2015 - that means that this year should be a 53 week chart year, with the chart period running Sunday 28 December 2014 to Saturday 2 January 2016.
