I was just listening to Now 2001 and Stereophonics' Handbags and Gladrags came on and it reminded me that the song spent six weeks in the top ten, three times longer than even their only #1 single Dakota. And I remember being surprised that Westlife's You Raise Me Up spent its first seven weeks in the top five as their songs usually divebombed after the token week at #1, certainly by the mid 00s.

What other fanbase orientated acts are there who had one or maybe two songs that had these unusally long runs (for the acts concerned).

Others I can think of are Aerosmith's I Don't Want To Miss A Thing (nine weeks in the top ten - their only other top ten hit ever only spent three weeks there) and McFly's Shine A Light (11 weeks top 40, even more than All About You achieved and I remember finding its longevity astonishing!).

A bit of an embarrassing guilty pleasure, but Scooter did brilliantly with The Logical Song - 7-5-2-4-2-2-4-8-10, when most of their other songs fell quickly from their first week peak.

Talking of Scooter, this new advert for German supermarket Edeka is genius:

Also, why have I never noticed that he has the same face as Shane Richie?

Here are three in a row from 2006...

Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancing

Razorlight - America

My Chemical Romance - Welcome To The Black Parade

I know there's lots of 2013/4 examples but absolutely none are coming to me!

John Legend - All Of Me :puke:

Oh yeah! Past (and future) form wouldn't have singled these out as hits, although I guess two of them at least are 'classics' now. Still, I'd have never expected Welcome To The Black Parade to be a big #1 and was shocked when it climbed from #23 right to the top!

Gorgon City are a good example right now, Ready For Your Love obviously being their one big hit and everything else having limited weeks in the chart.

Would be a slightly different story if they credited themselves on Right Here though

If this thread were done a few years ago then Taylor Swift would definitely be applicable - Love Story was her only real hit with everything else being a middling hit or not a hit at all! Obviously things are a lot different now :kink:

How You Remind Me's 11 T10 weeks and 30 T75 weeks say :hi:

Whilst not completely plummeting, Oasis' songs tended to fall fairly quickly (particularly 2000 onwards) but Wonderwall had an amazing chart run (and Don't Look Back in Anger wasn't bad either).

Most of their pre 2000 singles did well once they were everywhere in 1995/6. During 1996 most of their older hits had huge chart runs (Whatever for example) and Oasis had the most top 75 weeks of any act in 1996.

Yeah I know they all re-entered but initially they only managed 3/4 weeks top 10, 5-7 weeks top 40, in comparison to Wonderwall which had an exceptional chart run. Maybe doesn't quite match the original question but still a sort-of example...
On a more minor level, Flux by Bloc Party and particularly The Pretender by Foo Fighters stuck around for a while compared to previous material. The Pretender spent 16 weeks T40 if I remember correctly...

2007-8 was strange like that, you had bands releasing OA/OS and getting really long stayers which a few years before would have been top 3 contenders. Linkin Park's 'What I've Done' also falls into that, although it's hardly their one great chart run given 'Numb/Encore'.
