I wouldn't bet my life on that. Tulisa was #23 I think in the Wednesday mids and finished outside the Top 40 on Sunday. She was probably more front-loaded though and I'm not sure how MNEK is doing on streaming, I guess he'll probably make it but it's definitely not a foregone conclusion...

Haha, that's what I've been thinking! :P I do still like him and his music really but I'm not liking him chart-wise recently.

 

I find the thought of him overtaking Kendrick more forgivable though as, apart from the Madonna being my #1 musician, we at least weren't ever expecting Kendrick to go to #1 and it means that finally we get an album spend two consecutive weeks at #1 in 2015.

Tracks from the much-anticipated follow up to Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City, notched up 9.6m streams on the album’s first full day of release

 

Kendrick Lamar’s new album, To Pimp a Butterfly, has broken streaming records on Spotify. Tracks from the follow up to Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City notched up 9.6m streams on the album’s first full day of release, more than any other LP has recorded in the streaming service’s seven-year existence. This beats the previous record holder, Michael Bublé’s Christmas, which garnered 9.5m streams on Christmas Eve in 2014.

 

The news comes after a surprise release for the album, which was expected to arrive a week later and may have been launched by Interscope without Lamar’s full knowledge. Anthony Tiffith, CEO of Top Dawg Entertainment, which represents Lamar, tweeted: “I WOULD LIKE 2 PERSONALLY THANK @Interscope FOR f***ING UP OUR RELEASE … SOMEBODY GOTS 2 PAY 4 THIS MISTAKE !!!!”

 

The record has received rave early reviews. The Guardian said: “The full 80-minute epic itself is an ambitious and at times overwhelming reflection of its multifaceted complexity.”

 

On 17 March, Kanye West Tweeted to say: “KENDRICK IS AN INSPIRATION. THANK YOU FOR THE VIBRATIONS AND THE SPIRIT. YOUR MEANING, MESSAGE AND EXECUTION ARE GIFTS TO THE WORLD.”

Cool to think Bubles album was streamed so much on Xmas eve - could stay in the post Xmas week because of that this yr. Hope this means Kendrick remains at the top this week!

You may be right about streaming making weekly #1 turnover less likely but don't forget that 'Uptown Funk' would have had those 6 straight weeks at #1 (and 'Love Me Like You Do' its 4) streaming or no streaming :P

One - when "You Got It All" by (recently dropped) Union J charted at #2 but would have been #1 on sales. They fell to #34 the following week, and would have fallen 1-22 if the chart had no streaming incorporated.

It's not streaming that dramatically reduced the No.1 turnover recently, it's a combination of a couple of massive songs coming out when literally nothing else is around.

One - when "You Got It All" by (recently dropped) Union J charted at #2 but would have been #1 on sales. They fell to #34 the following week, and would have fallen 1-22 if the chart had no streaming incorporated.

 

Ouch on both counts.

If they'd had their single up for streaming Union J arguably might have held on to their career for a little longer, as if they'd made the #1 it would have dropped from the chart nowhere near as fast due to the 'Number 1 effect'.
