Ed Harrison - Tachi

8th | 206 points

We have followed up a disappointing start to the year - a DNQ - with three top 20 hits! This latest one - 'Tachi' by Ed Harrison - is our first top 10 of the year at that. This marks our 23rd top 10 result since we began competing in 2015. 8th now becomes our joint most decorated position (alongside 3rd and 17th) - with Sonia & Selena, OVERWERK and Hante. also finishing there.

Thanks for all the love recently  so pleased about an unexpected hit.

TWINS - Stuck

"My whole life... stuck. My whole mind... stuck." - yep, you've guessed it, another moody and intense month from the land of Jadakissnia. We originally had a very opposite vibe in mind but then stumbled across this and fell instantly in love. Also this music video has accumulated just 12k views in four years and is the most viewed on his channel... so TWINS feels like such a hidden gem and I really want to share him with others. It is the project of Matt Weiner, based in Atlanta, with the TWINS name strikingly standing for That Which Is Not Said. The music has a real throwback gloomy 80s synth pop meets industrial sound - with intense drums and dark vocals. His style can also be described as cold wave. In the YouTube comments for 'Stuck' the comparisons range from Tears For Fears to 'Spacelab' by Kraftwerk. My dark entries can really go either way this year so we'll have to see what happens this time. TWINS can be found in slot #22 of semi 1 - please support us!

Elsewhere in the semi there is also Jadakissnia alumni to be found as Greenfroze have sent BPM15Q! They were behind our bonkers but brilliant Japan vs. South Korea spin-off entry 'Hakuchuumu' which finished in 3rd place. We greatly look forward to seeing them in the competition again. Speaking of Jadakissnia alumni... BLANCO from BJFest finished top 10 in Eurovision as part of Italy's 'Brividi' :cheer:

...we may have DNQed with 'Stuck', a second DNQ for the year  it finished 24th in the semi, our most common DNQ placing (4 times out of 10 to date!)

Thanks to those who threw some points its way - it did get 36 of them after all.

Now, onwards and upwards, we've never had a DNQ streak before and would like to keep it that way! Without further ado...

Paola & Chiara - Vamos A Bailar (Esta Vida Nueva)

(we actually sent

but it's age restricted therefore can't be embedded, so do check out that one, but otherwise a quieter upload plonked here for now)

The 73rd Jadakissnia entry to date is courtesy of Italian duo Paola & Chiara! However, this entry is in the Spanish language. There are three versions available: fully Spanish, a hybrid of Spanish and Italian and lastly, Spanish and English. I ruled out the latter but wasn't sure about which of the other two iterations to send. I eventually settled on fully Spanish as that was the best quality YouTube upload I could find with visuals. The earworm chorus is a big selling point and that is the exact same in each version at least! Another across-the-board feature is the sun-kissed dance beats. The poolside video is also very fitting while we're in the middle of a heatwave. 'Vamos A Bailar (Esta Vida Nueva)', or let's dance, is getting the semi 2 party started (well, after the AQ anyway) - so let's hope it stays in the minds of enough listeners until lights are out a couple of hours later, as we'd love a return to the final.

But, before we find out that fate, we have some pretty exciting news to belatedly report on...

BJSC Pride III

Måneskin - CORALINE

★ WINNER ★ | 98 points

National pride is at an all-time high right now after our Prime Minister Damiano David took to the stage, alongside his three bandmates, to take home glory for us in the Pride III spin-off! We were hoping to extend our 100% Pride spin-off top 10 streak to a third edition (after impressive results in the past from Arca and AURORA) but did not see a win coming :o we decided to unleash this song for Pride month as bandmates Victoria DeAngelis and Ethan Torchio have both been very open about their own LGBTQ+ identities, with Damiano and Thomas also strong allies. In fact, Victoria owning her bisexuality was a big reason why I revisited my own repressed thoughts. That personal touch aside, I am of course a huge fan of the band's music too and really wanted to introduce the stunning Italian-language album track 'CORALINE', from my favourite album of last year (Teatro D'ira Vol. I), to a bigger audience on the forum. Damiano's Italian lyrics were a big reason why I fell in love with the band. This one offers a deeper, darker side to them as the female subject in the lyrics is really struggling in life. It was great to see the BJSC audience taking this under their wing <3 I believe that is now our 6th spin-off win to date - not by default on this occasion! Thank you to all who voted for 'CORALINE'

Loving this Jade, certainly a good pick for summer for sure. The spanish guitar and piano sounds lush as well. It might be just me but some of the music sounds like 'Nothing Really Matters' by Madonna a tad. Not a bad thing really as I love that song by her.

A belated thanks Rob  I totally hear 'Nothing Really Matters' and also 'One & One' by Robert Miles!

We set out to bounce back from our DNQ and that was certainly achieved! Paola & Chiara scored Jadakissnia's biggest hit of the year and 27th top 10 hit to date with their summer smash

Bowery Electric - Freedom Fighter

We're here to genre hop once more and this time it's with an American group who have quite a trip-hop sound! It's another dip into the past as this skirts the line of 1999/2000. We're concerned for our chances as the make up of countries in the opposite semi looks a lot more favourable on paper. Plus we were gifted 'the death slot' again :kink: but hey, who knows.

We've never experienced more than two DNQs in a calendar year before so... fingers crossed!

Bowery Electric - Freedom Fighter

20th place | 182 points

Our foray into trip-hop music didn't look like our most successful venture, following mostly DNQ predictions. However, we defied the odds by finishing top 10 in the seemingly doomed semi final (10th with 68 points to be specific) and top 20 in the final, again a nice round position of 20th, with 182 points. We're very pleased with this outcome! All of our qualifiers have finished in the top 20 this year so far.

'Freedom Fighter' was languishing down low for a while but was boosted by some strong second-half support, including four gold medals :o

She Pleasures Herself - Trust

Halloween has arrived early in Jadakissnia as we decided on some pounding darkwave! She Pleasures Herself (approach Google with caution) are a Portuguese group, which I believe is a brand new nationality for us. This marks our landmark 75th entry to date! To celebrate, the BJSC Gods spared us of the death slot this time. Instead, we take position 17 in semi 1.

Okay, there is one more celebration. The supremely talented people of Hendinia aren't the only ones who have been working on BJSC-related media. To celebrate 75 Jadakissnia entries we decided to put together a recap video of all of our songs to date. So, feel free to take a trip down memory lane or fill in some gaps from our nation if you joined after the formation of Jadakissnia:

Just wanted to say thank you Jade, I just spent the last 20 minutes watching with close attention your recap video and seeing where each artist nationality was based on your updated post in the other thread! I really appreciate the effort you made to celebrate 75 entries! I am so very happy that you’re still here and going strong, and still finding great winning entries! I hope you can continue to find songs that I will award points to in the future! Love the variety of artists and genres represented in your back history! ^_^

Aww thanks so much Wardy for taking the time to watch it  and even link up the nationalities *.* there's quite a broad range of them even if a bit top heavy on U.S. and U.K. artists. I had wanted to make a huge recap video of my entries at some point, since getting back into recap making with my chart, then finally had the motivation one Friday night and eventually finished it at about 4am :kink: I'm glad to still be here too, I hope to never miss a contest for as long as it goes, the completist in me twitches at the thought of a gap in entries. yay, apparently my ingredient for winning is taking a trip to the dancebloc, although that venture isn't always quite as successful as those two instances. Fingers crossed! Your own entry this time is great *.* Jadakissniacore may equate to dark synths but I truly love experimenting as well.

A Portuguese artist while I’m vacationing at Portugal? Okay I see you

:cheeseblock: hope you're having a great time in Portugal! I've been there once and remember DNQing with Tuna during that holiday  I'm sure you'll do way way better though xo

Los Bitchos - Good To Go!

We're entering risky territory this time by sending a quirky instrumental for our 76th entry to date. Unleashing the retro Shadows/Ennio Morricone side of my taste (albeit with a funkier twist) was not something I had for the Jadakissnia 2022 bingo card, but there we go, I'm in the mood for something different. Los Bitchos, unlike those other artists, are actually an all-female band. Although a male famous face makes an appearance in the fun music video. No, not this:

Screenshot-2022-10-24-at-22-04-51.png

Instead, Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand as a gameshow host. We hope this finds at least one fan in semi 2! Hey, it is a right earworm. We can be found in slot #15.

She Pleasures Herself - Trust

Unfortunately the 100% top 20 rate we had for our qualifiers this year came to an end as we finished 29th with 'Trust', scoring 162 points. We were happy to achieve a unique position at least!

Thank you to the following nations for the points:

18 - Terra Avium

13 - Dobago, Persephonia + Suedeonia

12 - East Rukahavian

11 - Arcodesia, Fljótavík + Séyetana

10 - Aelandor + Rolloland

9 - Pestolia

8 - Quintessa + Summericia

6 - Flynnonda

5 - Elëdan

2 - Niceland

1 - Kingdom of Horanius + Utopia

Instead, Ainslex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand as a gameshow host.

I don't know who Ainslex is  but the entry is great and the video is amazing!

Oh dear  Alex! You saw nothing.

Thanks so much for the hype *.* as much as I adored everything about BJSC FM I am glad that we could show off the music videos again this month as I love it too!

Justice for Las Panteras tbh. </3

Omg this! [2]

BJSC Halloween 4: The Chomping

Echoberyl - Salomé (Suffer Me)

Beaverween is underway in addition to the main contest this month! Jadakissnia have a pretty great track record in the Halloween spin-off, with our placings to date ascending like this: 7-5-3. So... no pressure for that win! In the past we've sent a metal explosion, an electro-house instrumental and punchy post-punk. This time we're unleashing our first female-vocal Halloween entry... could that be the ticket to victory? Echoberyl is a duo consisting of Italian Adriano Iacoangeli and French Cecilia Dassonneville. Their style is described as a mix of alternative rock and coldwave. So, expect dark synths, imagery and lyrics. We discovered this while searching for our previous BJSC entry 'Trust' by She Pleasures Herself and it popped up on shuffle the other week, in my playlist of over 3000 songs and suddenly I thought it could work as a Halloween entry. So let's hope shuffle was pointing me in the right direction. We can be found in slot #7 under a seasonal guise of Jade 'o' lanternia!
