The UK’s Official Chart will move to a new Friday slot later this summer, the Official Charts Company can confirm.

The move to the new day means that BBC Radio 1 will also be moving the Official Chart show and will retain its role as the home of the UK’s Official Singles Chart, with Greg James unveiling the week’s Official Top 40 singles between 4pm and 6pm every Friday. The full singles and albums Top 100 will continue to be published on OfficialCharts.com at 6pm.

The move will coincide with a shift by the global music industry to a new synchronised music release day of Friday, also starting this summer. The UK charts will incorporate sales and streams across seven days, from 00.01 on Friday through to midnight on Thursday evening – compiled overnight and delivered to the nation every Friday afternoon.

Official Charts Company chief executive Martin Talbot says, “This is an exciting new era for the Official Singles Chart – following the integration of streams, with the move to a new, more high profile slot.

BBC Radio 1 has been the home of the UK’s Official Singles Chart for more than 40 years and we are delighted that they are as excited about future plans for the chart as we are.

The news comes as CBBC announce the launch of their new Official Chart Show, which will count down the Top 10 songs of each week alongside Radio 1. Click here to see the full story.

Poor Clara gets dumped then!

Well I'm guessing that's why they gave her Fearne's job from Summer.

Such a big change. I can't believe after nine years of me listening to the chart (almost) every Sunday, it'll finally be changing, oh what am I gonna do with my Sundays now </3 It'll certainly be a lot harder for me to listen now, yay for Greg James tho ^_^

Wonder how this will affect the sales of songs? Traditionally there's a weekend effect which I'm guessing won't be felt quite as much at least at first.

S'pose it makes sense seeing as she's gonna be hosting the Live Lounge and all. Poor thing's gonna probably be one of the shortest running chart presenters on Radio 1 in a while?

Surely the effect will simply be seen at the beginning of the week?

I wonder what's happening with the midweek updates then - do we still get the update show on Radio 1?

That means for one week, the chart week will run for 5 days (Sun-Thurs) instead of 7 (Sun-Sat)

To be honest I kind of wish this had happened earlier, so I might have actually got something productive done on Sundays over the last few years

The show being condensed to 2 hours hmm.

The one good thing about it is that Greg will be doing it, I think he'll make a great chart show host.

They should reduce Scott Mills' Friday show to 2 hours (1-3) and keep the chart show for its usual 3 hours (3-6)

Oh no baby no. 2 hours :( not on a Sunday :( Greg James tho  1/3 eh

Really will miss having this on a Sunday, one of my main traditions for sure that has sustained over the years.

The Christmas number 1 race could get exciting again now as the X Factor winner will only have four days to bid for the achievement if Cowell still wants the song out on a Sunday night.

I personally am quite excited about this change now. Been listening to the charts on and off on Sundays for 15 years but I think this for once is a good move considering songs getting randomly released on Fridays in the past like Born This Way and the like. GregJames is great for this too so I am happy overall with the move.
the impact this has on buzzjack as a community too is immense if you think it through...

If he releases the winners song on Sunday 13 December which is the most likely day, at least it will have a go at #1 but for it to get Xmas #1, it would have to stay at the top for a second week

What are we going to call midweeks if we get them on a Sunday?
The Weekends!

I'm guessing the first midweek chart will be on a Monday. There's little reason to produce the first one on a Sunday as most of the people who subscribe to the midweeks service are probably on a day off work. It would be good if Monday was the day that Radio 1 played the midweeks update as it would cover all of the weekend. However if a midweeks chart was compiled on a Sunday perhaps Radio 1 could count that down, though I guess it wouldn't be anywhere near a 3 hour long programme.

They could do the 'midweeks' on a Tuesday lunchtime and we could pretend it was the actual chart, just like 'the olden days'.
