Oh yeah that bit was pretty opportunistic on his part but in this case it's actually a positive anyway. The support for Ukraine and stance against Putin, on the whole has been much stronger and more coherent than I expected

Regardless of him doing okay on Ukraine, any parts of the media using it as a reason for why he shouldn't resign is not it. We can and do change horses mid-stream, and it's not even our war like it was in 1940.

He and Sunak should both resign and head to the backbenches but they won't, because consequences are no longer felt by the powerful in Britain.

Agreed. In fact the only Tory MP who has said post-fine that Johnson must go, Nigel Mills, said that there are General Elections in France where the winner could have a radical view on the policy on Russia - Ukraine whereas whoever to replace Johnson probably wouldn't. Even if we end up with bloody Liz Truss as PM then at least the important moral principle of no PM should blatantly break the law would stand which is important for standards in this country such as they remain.

Fascism

Godwin's Law, I know, but the first Nazi umm "policy" idea I guess - although never actually put into action - long before the concentration camp atrocities, was to deport and exhile Jewish and non-Aryan people to Madagascar! This new Tory populist ploy is therefore taken right out of thr Nazi handbook!!!

Is this even legal? Why Rwanda?

It's spiteful, evil and indefensible. Asylum seekers have generally gone on a perilous journey to reach the safety of the UK, and this lands them in a probably unfamiliar place where they will now be out of sight and mind.

And that's before you get to the ludicrous cost there in transporting people from the UK to the middle of Africa - 1.4 billion. Patel (daughter of Ugandan Asians herself, so this is empirical proof she has no conscience) continues to find a way to make herself the most horrific part of an already horrific government.

However, given how our immoral press have treated asylum seekers I suspect it may actually even be well received :/ It's certainly a good go at getting the fact we now have a criminal PM off the front page, asylum seekers always capture the attention of the worst parts of Britain.

This has been announced purely to divert attention from the governments's law breaking fines.

Looks like it worked, at least for the moment

Having read Michaela Wrong’s horrifying book “Do Not Disturb”, about Rwandan President Paul Kagame and the absolute mayhem he has imposed on that country, the UK, or any civilised nation, should not be making ANY transactions with Rwanda, let alone one of this variety.

The UK currently is running with a 100% acceptance rate on asylum claims from Rwandans.

Patel is a danger to civilised society. She should be entombed in 5m thick lead lined concrete and buried with the nuclear waste for the safety of the planet

A brilliant read if disturbing!

The day I learned she was the new Home Secretary I shouted out in work ffs she wants the death penalty back!

I was in the audience this evening for Any Questions, which was Chris Mason's first outing in his new role (and was also broadcast live on Radio 4). The Tory MP on the panel, Gillian Keegan was EMBARRASSING. She was almost as bad as Dorries. When asked with the question over whether she can say the PM and the chancellor behaved ethically now they've been fined, she somehow managed to say she believed they did the right thing. Which elicited a loud boo from everybody.

Chris, for his first outing really got thrown in the deep end in what was a lively and emotionally charged gig. But he handled it incredibly well and is actually a really sound chap. So far, SO much better than Kuenssberg.

I always think Chris is quite funny on politicscast!

But yeh Keegan is poor and she’s not even a cabinet minister is she? You’d think she’d just say they were wrong!

The new policy on deporting illegal refugees to Rwanda is shocking, disturbing and completely inhumane. It just shows the Tory party have absolutely nothing credible to offer to respond to the problems this country is facing and that their time in office needs to come to an end soon.

The Tories know their Rwanda policy probably won't happen. There will be a legal challenge and it will probably be declared to be in breach of international treaties. Johnson and his regime will then blame "lefty lawyers" and use it as an excuse to reduce the power of the courts.

So do I, for the very heinous crimes. Multiple murders and killers of kids, with no provocation.

Sure they always get the wrong people and there are many people out there with enduring mental health problems, the whole legal system would have to be overturned!
So the Tories and their press spend Easter talkiing about the Archbishop of Cantebury (who isn't at all liberal in the grand scheme of things) a virtue signaller for criticising the Rwanda policy - wonder what they would say about Jesus Christ? He would have been deported pronto.
