Demi now up to 81.3% of Rachel and #3 on iTunes, so she should get very close to overtaking her tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see how quickly Justin falls and whether Rachel or Demi will have a chance, I have a feeling they will have a chance considering Justin is now in light red on Kworb but I'm not quite sure if Demi is going to be able to quite catch Rachel. It'll be close though between all three of them!

Regarding artist opinions, I agree with whoever said that not liking an artist can impact on whether you want them to be successful - the Chris Brown example being one I often think of too. Likewise Justin Bieber has had bad press, so I can see why people are wary of him being successful too. I do find it difficult to see Demi put in the same bracket as the likes of Justin and Chris although I assume the use of Demi is just topical due to her single release of course. But trust me when I say that Demi is such an inspirational person who has helped so many people and is so deserving of every success she has. I can't remember the last time Demi had any bad press and that's quite unique these days.

Is it too early to call Chunky (Radio Edit) a future #1?

I would say it's too early yes. Who knows what new releases are going to be revealed from now until then! Also, pre-orders are a loose indicator of success and fewer songs are being put up on preorder so I guess it depends on it being playlisted/streamable etc.

It doesn't sound like a #1 to me, but I'm happy to be proven wrong!

Heard the new Justin Bieber song and its not too bad actually :o Well produced and I can see it becoming a real earworm on repeated listens. Have no issue with it going to #1 (and this me endorsing Pop music ).

tbf Skrillex produced it so it's not much of a guilty pleasure if you're not big on Pop! :kink:

Perhaps, but then again when was the last #1 that wasn't a Pop song!?

Even those from different genres have a healthy dose of Pop for widespread appeal.

David Zowie - House Every Weekend

But then again, everything that is not your fave genre is pop for you. (pop = you hate it) :heehee:

Pop music is short for popular music so really every #1 is pop of some sort :kink:
There has been much more pop at #1 this year than the last couple it seems to me (which is no problem by me). A lot of songs can now be pigeonholed into cross genres so it's difficult to establish a definitive one...

Forgot that went #1 actually, I was thinking back to songs like Animals, My Love & I Wanna Feel

If that's your perception then fair enough, but I can assure you that's not entirely true!

Definitely seen more Pop #1's than 2014 for example, especially the first half of that year. Probably because deep house has passed it's commercial peak and Mustard-influenced music doesn't really produce chart-toppers.

Look at Jason Derulo for example. He released Want To Want Me after his more urban songs like Talk Dirty, Trumpets and Wiggle. Maybe it's the Uptown Funk influence

Looks like Demi has run out of momentum slightly too early! She should get another slight boost tomorrow morning as the new releases tend to do (presumably due to some people not yet adjusting to the Friday releases), and maybe it might get a play on X Factor tonight if she's lucky. Hopefully she can stay in contention for the top 3, I think she has a very good chance of doing so.

I'm confused about Macklemore - he only released a single feat. Ed Sheeran a couple of weeks ago, so why would he want to bury that with another single already?

Edit - To answer my own question, it was a free download. Odd decision really.

That song was given out for free and not officially a single. Created a bit of buzz around Macklemore though.
