04. Makes Me Wonder = Avg.8.096

Maroon5-makes-me-wonder.jpg

Highest Scores: 11: (Jay, American Oxygen, Kylie Jackson), 10: (Acidburn, Fgiboy2511, T Boy, Bartsimpson, Juranamo, Kellyann, Hennymoon), 9: (Liam, Chapman, Gavindeejay)

Lowest Scores: -1: (Mr Pmt), 5: (Ultraviolence1989, J*hq)

At #4 we one of their biggest hits "Makes Me Wonder" released in March 2007 as the lead single from their 2nd album "It Won't Be Soon Before Long". It was an instant success upon release it entered the USA charts at #64, then shot to #1 in it's 2nd week, giving them their first #1 and was the biggest jump in chart history to the #1 spot, however that record was later broken by Kelly Clarkson in 2009. The writing for this song began years before it's release, where Adam Levine at first struggled finding a suitable chorus, until the band went on a trip and while in Las Vegas they were working on another song, this came out in it's finished form. This would remain their biggest selling hit up until 2011 with "Moves Like Jagger". In the UK it became another success for them by reaching #2 which was their highest peak at the time. Worldwide it topped the charts in Canada and Hungary, along with top 10 peaks in Italy, Denmark, Australia, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Slovakia and Ireland. Then top 20 peaks in Germany, Austria and Swiss. This was almost at the #3 position here, but last minute scoring pushed it to this position by just 1.5 point.

'Harder To Breathe' has always been their best by a considerable distance.

J'adore!

+1

great to see it in top 5 :D

It took me ages to appreciate 'Makes Me Wonder' but looking back it really stood out nicely back in 2007.

Great top 3, I'm REALLY surprised 'Misery' is this high!

I've actually forgot how much I stan for Maroon 5.

It's so sad to see 'Payphone' to miss the top 5 never mind the top 10, I'll never understand the hate it gets. The song itself is still f***ing incredible. 'Won't Go Home Without You' is also an absolute anthem and I think I undermarked it, it really deserves a 9. Both really should have beat 'Moves Like Jagger', 'Harder To Breathe' and 'It Was Always You'. 'One More Night' is also incredibly overrated.

'Sugar' has grown on me an incredible amount and I think overall it should have finished top 10.

'She Will Be Loved' just HAS to win with 'This Love' finishing second please.

Misery being top 3 is amazing. I played it non stop this time 5 years ago and it flopped because Maroon 5 were no longer deemed relevant at that point :(

03. Misery = Avg.8.142

Highest Scores: 11: (Bartsimpson, Kellyann), 10: (Liam, Acidburn, T Boy, Joe, American Oxygen, Kylie Jackson), 9: (Rob S, Chez Wombat, Mack, Ezra's Whore, Jay, J*hq, Hennymoon)

Lowest Scores: 3: (Gavindeejay), 5: (Nick F1, Atonement)

As we draw closer and closer to our winner in this countdown, we have "Misery" which bows out in a very respectable 3rd place, which leaves 2 of their iconic hits battling out for the #1 spot, which will it be. I'm honestly glad that this one has done so well here, so very underrated in my opinion and almost never gets a mention, probably due to the fact that by this point they were kinda losing steam as we approached a new decade, and while this is probably one of their best efforts, that has their signature catchy sound, but didn't anything new or win them any new fans. Released in June 2010 as the lead single from their 3rd album "Hands All Over", it did quite well in the USA peaking at #14 becoming their 6th top 20 hit, but didn't do quite so well in the UK where it got virtually ignored and limped at #30. Elsewhere it had some success by reaching top 10 in Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Israel, Ireland and Netherlands, and top 20 peaks in Canada, France and Italy, then top 40 peaks elsewhere. This was the era that they struggled most with during their career as 2 more follow up singles fared worse, but things would turn around in the following year with a brand new song and a repackaged version of the album, which would restore their relevance.

I really don't get the hype with Misery. Decent song and all but nowhere near their top 10, let alone top 3.

Just 2 left now This Love Vs She Will Be Loved

who will win....

Quite a catchy one! Deserved a lot better officially than it did

SWBL FTW!

The 2 best songs left now. This Love to win plz.

I knew 'It Was Always You' was popular here but never would've thought it'd finish as high as sixth :o. Not complaining though as it's quite easily my favourite song from the last album.

As for the top five, 'Harder To Breathe' is good but forgettable for me, but 'Makes Me Wonder' and 'Misery' are two of the band's catchiest tracks so it's great to see them so well regarded. I was absolutely obsessed with 'This Love' when it was everywhere back in 2004 - I remember turning on the radio while doing homework a few times solely in the hope that song would come on . I find it hasn't aged very well though, in contrast to the timeless quality of 'She Will Be Loved', so I'm rooting for the latter to get the #1.

(Great rate by the way, Acidburn, and sorry for not rating - completely forgot to do it)!

If Makes Me Wonder had placed third here then it'd be the ideal Top 3 songs for me. Nice to see Misery getting appreciation though!
I find "Makes Me Wonder" kinda boring. Really hoping for a "This Love" win, my personal favourite and "She Will Be Loved" is OK but rather whiny.

Does it not get tiring being wrong all the time, Jak? facepalm_80_anim_gif.gif

:kink:

Misery is sooooo good. Blasphemy but I might prefer the Glee cover.

Moves Like Jagger:

Definitely a few too many places higher up than this should have got.

It's a bit stupid to -1 a track because it was overplayed or you just didn't want it to win. I'm glad it's top 10 though but I'm also glad it didn't make no.1.

For your information, I give it a -1 because it's cheesy and I really don't like it. OK T Boy?

It Was Always You:

Just something I haven't really listened to much.

Harder Than Breathe:

Definitely forgetten compared to their other hits.

Makes Me Wonder:

Rihanna stopped this from getting to #1 in the UK didn't she?

Misery:

Pleaed to see this in the Top3. Underrated here only a #30 peak.

Of course it's ok. I was just stating my opinion. Ok, Mack?
