Maroon_5_One_More_Night_cover.png

Highest Scores: 11: (Liam), 10: (American Oxygen, Dobbo), 9.5/9: (Fgiboy2511, 100% Spadam, Ezra's Whore, Kylie Jackson)

Lowest Scores: -1: (Ultraviolence1989), 2: (Atonement, Hennymoon)

At #8 and we say goodbye to the last of the "Overexposed" era singles, "One More Night" released in June 2012 as the 2nd single from that album. It uses a reggae influence on the track which was complimented and one of the producers Shellback who did "MLJ" also, sat down with the group when they first heard the song and thought that it was amazing and instant future single choice upon recording the album. There is also a rap edit released in December featuring Mexican rapper Ezequielized Odyssey, in the same vein of their previous hit "Payphone" which also featuring a rapper. Upon release the song became a huge smash reaching #1 in the USA becoming their 3rd chart topper there and longest running with 9 weeks, with sales of over 4.6 million units. In the UK it wasn't as successful peaking at #8, but still managed to be a big seller with over 400,000 copies sold and earning a Gold disc. Elsewhere it managed to top the charts in Bulgaria, New Zealand, South Korea and top 5 peaks in Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Lebanon, Ukraine, Israel, Serbia and Sweden. The song sold 6.9 million copies worldwide and became the 8th best selling single of the year.

One More Night is by far the best song of that era for Maroon 5, I'm glad it's done well here. I was hoping it'd do better than Moves Like Jagger.

One More Night :music:

Top 5 hit IMO but with Payphone flopping here it's not that surprising tbh.

completely shocked to see Harder To Breath in top 7 :o, their best

It so is! It's rare I find anyone who agrees on that.

I like 'One More Night', the reggae vibe of it is good.

07. Moves Like Jagger (Ft Christina Aguilera) = Avg.7.564

Maroon_5_Moves_Like_Jagger_cover.png

Highest Scores: 11: (Ezra's Whore, gooddelta), 10: (Acidburn, Ultraviolence1989, Chapman, T Boy, 100% Spadam, American Oxygen, Bartsimpson, Gavindeejay, J*hq), 9.5/9: (Liam, Mr Pmt, Chez Wombat, Pippa, Jay, Juranamo, Kylie Jackson, Kellyann)

Lowest Scores: -1: (Jonjo, LeeWallace, Nick F1, Mack, Hennymoon), 6: (Dobbo)

At #7 we have the infamous "Moves Like Jagger" which really polarized the voters here, and honestly I am quite surprised given it's iconic status and the fact that it give their career a much needed shot in the arm. But it did get played to death, radio and TV were all over this like a rash and you just couldn't escape the hype. While I still love the song, I do understand the backlash it received here, and while it did gain several high scores, 2 11's, 9 10's and a lot of other high scores. But there were a lot of -1 scores, more than any other song on this rate, but come on did it really deserve that much hate. Ideally this should have at least made the top 5 here, but in the end settled for a decent top 10 spot. Released in July 2011 and features Christina Aguilera, this was eventually added to the re-release of their third album "Hands All Over" as the 4th and final single. While both artists were judges on "The Voice", they turned their rivalry into something that would save both their careers. While both artists were starting to struggle with their latest material, Maroon 5 previous few singles were flopping and Christina's 4th album and single also flopped. This really turned things around for them both, though only Maroon 5 would continue to have success, while this was only a fluke for Christina. The song entered the USA chars at #8 and eventually reached #1 becoming their 2nd chart topper and ended up selling 6.7 million units. In the UK it also became a smash hit by reaching #2 and stayed there for 7 weeks and became the year's 2nd biggest selling single with 1.4 million copies sold, to date this is their biggest selling single there. Worldwide it equalled the success with 15 million worldwide and topped the charts in over 20 countries.

YES! That utter shitfest is finally out.
It's a bit stupid to -1 a track because it was overplayed or you just didn't want it to win. I'm glad it's top 10 though but I'm also glad it didn't make no.1.

Or perhaps we gave it a -1 because we really don't like it?

That's how it is for me, anyway. I hated the song on first listen (way before it hit UK airplay/the charts) and the over exposure of the song just made me realise that no matter how much I hear it, I'll always not like it. It peed me off even more so when they had far better tracks previously, flopping right on their arse right before this single. :(

I'm kind of surprised at the amount of high scores for MLJ! I never properly loved it, maybe for a week or two, but obviously they owe all their recent success to that collab. I saw it fared considerably worse in the Christina rate, with a 6.41 average in that thread.

'One More Night' is nice too, no matter how many weeks it blocked Psy from #1 in the States. I'll always associate it with that unfortunately

Well-deserved top 10 placings for 'Animals' and 'Sunday Morning', two of their very best for me.

Or perhaps we gave it a -1 because we really don't like it?

Indeed.

You might not like it, but I have a hard time believing people can see it as -1 worthy. But that's my problem.

That's why I like it.

That's why I like it.

lmao it was good for something indeed but I find it and "Animals" both distinctly average / sub-par.

Never got bored of "Moves Like Jagger", the time of its domination was amazing.

06. It Was Always You = Avg.7.982

Maroon_5_-_It_Was_Always_You_Single_Cover.png

Highest Scores: 11: (Jonjo), 10: (Rob S, Mr Pmt, Gavindeejay, Kellyann), 9: (Liam, T Boy, Joe, J*hq)

Lowest Scores: 3: (LeeWallace), 5: (Chez Wombat, Mack)

At #6 we say goodbye to another album era single "It Was Always You" which featured on their fifth and latest album "V". It wasn't given an official release, only as a promo single in July 2014 and it also showcases a departure from their pop sound and leans more towards Electropop, giving fans a taste of what's to come from their newest album. It became instantly popular and charted in several countries worldwide due to strong digital downloads, charting best in South Korea at #2 and making top 20 in Canada and Scotland, along with top 40 peaks in Spain, Portugal, Slovakia, Czech Republic and UK. Charting better than some of their other previous releases and then charting in 7 other countries. Why this wasn't released I don't know, as it definitely would have been a hit, and would have been a better choice than the bland "This Summer's Gonna Hurt".

That's easily one of their best and definitely should have been a single.

Their equivalent to Taylor's 'Out Of The Woods' (but not quite as good as that)

05. Harder To Breathe = Avg.8.000

Maroon_5_-_Harder_to_Breathe.png

Highest Scores: 11: (Mr Pmt, Nick F1), 10: (Pippa, T Boy, Bartsimpson), 9.5/9: (Rob S, Liam, Ezra's Whore, Dobbo, Juranamo, Kylie Jackson, J*hq, Riser)

Lowest Scores: 4: (LeeWallace), 5/5.5: (Joe, 100% Spadam)

At #5 we have Maroon 5's debut hit "Harder To Breathe", released in May 2002 as the first single from their debut album "Songs About Jane" and where everybody has to start somewhere, with them it was this and although it seems mostly forgotten now and was overshadowed by the album's other singles, this is still a fine effort. The song itself came about after their frustration with their label, as they kept making them write more songs for the album, and in the end they were glad they did, as they came out with this. Upon release the song became a hit and became their first top 20 hits in both the UK and USA (#13 and #18). Elsewhere it managed top 40 peaks in Italy, New Zealand, Ireland and Australia. The real success would come from their follow up hit.
