43 Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme) (11 votes, 10.00%)

 

'Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme)' was released alongside 'Crybaby' as the third single from Mariah's 1999 album 'Rainbow'. Although the song earned positive reviews from critics, it was not a commercial success. The music video features personal videos from her fans, re-telling their stories of pain and emotional abuse and how the song had inspired them.

 

 

42 Boy (I Need You) [feat. Cam'ron] (10 votes, 9.09%)

 

The second song to be taken from Mariah's 'Charmbracelet' album (2002). This song wasn't the label's choice, who favoured 'The One'. However, Mariah decided halfway through the video shoot for that song that she wanted to release 'Boy' instead! It is one of her personal favourite songs, but it seems BuzzJack isn't too fond of it!

 

 

41 Loverboy (feat. Cameo) (8 votes, 7.27%)

 

'Loverboy' was released during a tumultuous time in Mariah's life. The song samples Cameo's 'Candy', however this wasn't the original intention. Yellow Magic Orchestra's 'Firecracker' was used at first, but Mariah's ex-husband Tommy Mottolla took the sample for Jennifer Lopez's 'I'm Real'. 'Loverboy' was met with mixed reviews, with one critic describing the song as "self-sabotage", feeling that Mariah was gambling with her longevity. Following Mariah's emotional breakdown and the subsequent halting of promotional, the single struggled in most markets. However it did peak at #2 in the US Billboard Hot 100, helped by the label cutting the price of the CD single.

 

I'm a little disappointed that both "Boy" singles have left us this soon, particularly Loverboy. Although it is rather messy it is still quite the bop. x
