Posted December 12, 20159 yr Single releases are looking very bare for January 2016, just by looking at the new single release schedule, can the X Factor winner hang on for 4 weeks plus, or will KSI feat JME / Keep Up (1st Jan), Zara Larsson / Lush Life (15 Jan) or DJ Fresh & High Contrast feat Dizzee Rascal / How Love Begins [5th February] grab it, we didn't have a new #1 till Feb this year when Ellie Goulding released the Shades Of Gray single Love Me Like You Do. I think Zara Larrson could get a week or 2 if single sales are poor, not too sure about KSI.
December 12, 20159 yr I think it's more likely JB will re-overtake the #1 spot again with 'Love Yourself' if anything.
December 12, 20159 yr KSI's song was released four weeks ago and I doubt the X Factor winner will spend multiple weeks at the top so I'm guessing Adele or Justin Bieber will return to the top or Coldplay could nab a place at the top like last time
December 12, 20159 yr 'Love Yourself' will definitely take back the #1 for multiple weeks, and the first new #1 of the year will probably be a song we don't know yet that comes in late Jan/early Feb as there seems to be no big held back releases coming out in January (becoming a theme now I think). The Zara Larsson song will probably be a big hit eventually but can't see it peaking first week.
December 12, 20159 yr Grace could have an outside chance, otherwise agree that it'll be back to Bieber. Can't see Zara Larsson getting anywhere near #1. I suspect the most likely new #1 will be something completely out of nowhere.
December 12, 20159 yr With Bieber dominating streaming right now, it's very likely that as the Christmas songs all fall out, his album tracks will be on the rise again and "Love Yourself" will still be very much in full swing. I'd quite like to see Coldplay nab a spot at #1 (on both charts actually) - depends how much we see of them at the end of the month (e.g. Top of the Pops x 2). Nothing on the release schedule seems to be a sure fire #1 - but don't forget we have Adele's second single (still "When We Were Young" I presume) to kick in and then the inevitable return of Rihanna at some point. Calvin Harris must have something new coming soon too, and I reckon Bruno Mars would do really well with an OA/OS release in Q1.
December 12, 20159 yr Yeah Love Yourself probably will be #1 but I'd like to see the first new #1 can be from DJ Fresh or Zara but I can't see it happening at the moment...
December 12, 20159 yr The thought of Justin Bieber being number one again in 2016 just makes me despair...... I'd love for a big name artist to drop a single in the new year but I can't see it happening :(
December 12, 20159 yr 'Love Yourself' will take the first few weeks of 2016, after that i'd maybe wager on Zara Larsson dethroning him (or at least coming pretty close)
December 12, 20159 yr considering Bieber is getting >50K from streaming points each week, sure it will be him, he has too much of an advantage... I think that if even big names like Rihanna, Beyonce or Kanye West make a comeback, they'll have trouble over-ruling him is the Zara Larsson song already out on Spotify like in the rest of EU??
December 12, 20159 yr is the Zara Larsson song already out on Spotify like in the rest of EU?? No it isn't
December 12, 20159 yr I think Bieber will be in with a comfortable shout although I hope he doesn't as I'm tired of his dominance everywhere atm and 'Love Yourself' is pretty boring imo. I'd love either Sigala or Grace to have a chance at the top just to keep things fresh but yeah streaming will ensure Bieber will hang on... Edited December 12, 20159 yr by ChristmasRobin
December 12, 20159 yr i fear 'love yourself' could well dominate top the singles chart for the first 5-7 weeks of 2016 ~ kicking the first new #1 of the year into the long grass~
December 12, 20159 yr It actually is :magic: as of about a week ago ~ I only typed Zara Larsson which was why I couldn't find it but I typed "Lush Life" next to it now I found it
December 12, 20159 yr The charts are different now nobody really knows what will take off due to OAOS so something like Calvin Harris could release on 1/1/16 and top the chart or depending on how the songs performed on the XF final and TOTPs over Xmas card they could jump up to the top of the chart!
December 15, 20159 yr As everyone else has said it will definately be Justin - Especially as most kids will be getting a streaming subscription for Christmas rather than an iTunes card!
December 15, 20159 yr The point of the thread is the first *new* #1. Of course it's almost a foregone conclusion that Bieber will be #1 in the first week of the year.
December 15, 20159 yr As of the first *new* #1, I'm fairly certain we haven't even listened to a song that will be a new #1.
December 15, 20159 yr I think Grace could rise to the top but it may be affected by the label of being a 'seasonal' song due to it being used on an xmas ad. But we shall see.
