Breaking new records for lowest ranked dance/electronic song in a Danæviia ranking probably :cheeseblock: :kink:

Not quite, Boards of Canada from BJSC 134 I ranked 36th :magic: (larger final yes but I'd rank yours above it)

I fully expect to be similarly low in your rankings for the next contest, considering it is my 100th anniversary. :P

Danæviia 138 :: 100th anniversary extravaganza

As we hype up the 100th Danævii entry we take a look back through the Past right from the flop era to the peak era to the present era.

001 / / / 100

BJSC 35

Entry: Danny Dove & Ben Preston ~ Falling (feat. Susie Ledge)

Final: 25th of 28 (51 points) PERSONAL BEST

Semi-Final: 5th of 23 (69 points) PERSONAL BEST

Genre: Progressive trance

Danævii Chart Run: 42-x

Danævii Broadcasting Network: 2011 Bulletins

> Just days ago the country had entered their song for BJSC and the president has revealed the song artist and title to the general public in his latest speech. Danaelanda is excited for the event and it is reported that over 150,000 have pre-ordered the BJSC 35 CD, it is predicted that there will be more pre-orders when the tracklisting is revealed. Over 4 million are expected to watch the final on Danaelanda TV.

> Danaelanda's song choice for the latest BJSC has been leaked all over the Buzzjack world. It is a trance song with female vocals and male production. The president has confirmed this 'Danny Dove & Ben Preston feat. Susie Ledge "Falling"' the first entry for the country. It has so far made number 42 on the official chart.

> People watching the results of BJSC are very disappointed that their own country has not done well. Some say it's because we are a debut country, but most agree that it's because the song isn't good. It missed the top 40 in Danaelanda but a more popular entry, Unoshake's DJ Havana Brown "We Run The Nite" has peaked at 14 and is looking likely to win. The President of Danaelanda is currently searching for a more contest friendly song that will "get country's points". Many people are angry that so much money is being spent on BJSC and are threating to protest if the country flops again this July.

How does it hold up today?

We were not very satisfied with the entry but wanted to enter the contest as it looked like a good bit of fun and just picked the best non-chart hit from the most recent Radio 1 dance anthems show. In hindsight it was quite amazing this managed to qualify even if it performed poorly in the final and it's not an entry that I go back to now, it's just not as exciting as most of our entries.

BJSC 36

Entry: Elena ~ Disco Romancing

Final: DNQ

Semi-Final: 20th of 24 (32 points)

Genre: Eurodance

Danævii Chart Run: 29-11-11-13-18-44-x

Danævii Broadcasting Network: 2011 Bulletins

> JThe country has entered their second entry and the president has said in his speech "I have a dream... that we can beat our peak of 25th and rise to the T20 with our latest dance entry" so things are looking good so far. Of course, we can't exactly tell as the bookies all over the Buzzjack world don't know our entry yet, let alone posted odds. This time the contest will be hosted in FSR Rontvia and according to Flyghtts.dan tickets sold for flights to the hosting country have shot up by 38%. TV ratings are expected to be at 5 million after 4.6m watched the final of the last contest.

> Danaelanda's confirmation for their second contest has been leaked. It is a Romanian dance song that sounds similar to Alexandra Stan. Elena 'Disco Romancing' is the track chosen for this contest and it has so far peaked at 11 on the official chart.

> Danaelanda's second entry from the lovely Elena flopped in its BJSC round - but she now has a second chance to win a contest for the country after being nominated in the Rejects final. Even with a point deduction because we didn't vote, she still got in the final ohmy.gif The country has now voted (not for ourselves of course laugh.gif) and is waiting on the results. The president has promised that we'll enter BJSC again in January if she does well tonight. COME ON!

How does it hold up today?

It's very of its time, good for what it is but not an essential of our 100 song collection either. We do have to be thankful that it ended up doing well in Rejects otherwise our hiatus may well have lasted longer. The song definitely didn't deserve to DNQ in the first place anyhow and we left the contest because of its floppage.

... ok I actually don't remember any of these songs whatsoever Oops. However this was the contest 'Video Games' won, which I thought was completely boring at the time before I ended up liking it once it was a UK hit single.

BJSC 41

Entry: Radio Killer ~ Don't Let The Music End

Final: DNQ

Semi-Final: 16th of 23 (41 points)

Genre: Eurodance

Danævii Chart Run: 23-9-14-36-x

Danævii Broadcasting Network: 2012 Bulletins

> Danaelanda's confirmation for their comeback contest has been leaked. Unsurprisingly, it's another European dance song from the same group that made "Lonely Heart" which was massive in its BJSC round. Hopefully this can do well and go through to the final round, something that Elena didn't manage to do.

> Danaelanda's attempt at BJSC has turned into a failure, after Radio Killer didn't go through to the final of the competition. The general public are sad about it flopping, and as a result it has shot up the dTunes chart right in the top 10. We will still be voting in the final, because the best part of BJSC is finding new great songs. Now the president of Danaelanda is going off to find another dance smasher that will hopefully go through to the finals.

How does it hold up today?

Yeah not all too great, the Elena song is better. Not too baffling a DNQ in hindsight but for 2012 I was hoping to go back into the contest with a hit. 'Lonely Heart' had been a Eurohit not long ago so I thought sending their follow-up would be wise. Believe me we'll start getting into peak Danæviia territory before too long!

CMM is my most played of these by some way, for obvious reasons, so here's a song that you may have forgot about or weren't here for that did get my +12 at the time. A very obscure and lucky find for FSR Rontvia, with the song not on Spotify and with only 575 YouTube views to this day.

BJSC 42

Entry: Antillas ~ Damaged (feat. Fiora)

Final: DNQ

Semi-Final: 18th of 22 (28 points)

Genre: Progressive trance

Danævii Chart Run: 7-10-18-25-35-45-x

Danævii Broadcasting Network: 2012 Bulletins

> Danaelanda's confirmation for the February contest has been leaked. As is tradition, the entry is dance based and has female vocals. Except this time it's not eurodance and we have gone down the trance route this time - a genre that doesn't smash in the charts but hopefully this song can smash in this month's BJSC and give not give us another DNQ.

> Once again Danaelanda flop with their new entry from trance producer Antillas and singer Fiora which currently sits at #10 in the official chart. We will be on the lookout for BJSC friendly songs that fit in with the dance theme that we love sending in - in the hope of actually qualifying someday.

How does it hold up today?

Well this song is more indicative of the type of sound we'd end up sending later on than attempting eurodance. It is still early days for us and not a huge fave of mine, and these days I'd sooner put on the 2003 hit single Antillas-remixed Plummet version, which I wasn't actually aware of at the time of me sending.

Now this was the song I actually wanted to send, but I knew I was too late before even trying as another poster had revealed they attempted to send it and got beat to it. So yes we could have won as early as contest #4! I did eventually get around to sending Emma many years later alongside BT.

Also, what was up with me only giving +3 to Reckless (With Your Love) oops! An easy 2nd fave of that bunch now.

Danævii Broadcasting Network: 2012 Bulletins

> Christina Walls with her dance-pop song gives Danaelanda its third DNQ in a row, and its fourth DNQ in total - joining Elena's "Disco Romancing", Radio Killer's "Don't Let The Music End" and Antillas feat. Fiora's "Damaged" in flop zone. Our only entry to not DNQ is Danny Dove & Ben Preston "Falling", our first ever entry and our worst favourite. We will be finding another dance song that we think could do well soon.

How does it hold up today?

Well it is another dated eurodance track here, nothing special but I always thought it was a bit harsh to finish 15th in the semi and still DNQ.

> This time we have decided to enter an Alexandra Stan soundalike with her song 'Shining Heart'. It features Andreea Banica. If you like the song and you're in my semi, you know what to do tongue.gif Hopefully this will give our country our first qualification of 2012.

> In last nights results it was revealed that Shining Heart finished in 18th place with 81 points, setting a new points record and place record in a BJSC final. The president of Danaelanda is reportedly very happy with this result and he has set the recent qualifiers of Danaelanda the big task of finding the next big entry. He has also said that the recent hipster smoothie takeover will not be affecting the kind of entries that Danaelanda are known for sending. A quote from a recent speech says "even if the top 5 in the final is all indie we will never be leaving our dance roots as it is part of the Danelandian culture that we are known for".

How does it hold up today?

It was so great to finally reach the top 20 after a load of DNQs and as far as this style of eurodance goes this is definitely one of the better songs from it albeit a bit cheesy and far from what I would be sending today.

Semi-Final: 19th of 26 (42 points)

Genre: Progressive house

Danævii Chart Run: 30-x

How does it hold up today?

Another very ill-advised entry, didn't stand out at all and it quickly grew off me as well, this and the previous entry of mine were the real low point of our BJSC career. I'm sure there was better tracks in this style I could have chosen (like his other song 'Teenage Crime' which I passed over because it was a bit old by that point).

> Andreea Banica takes our 3rd DNQ in a row with 'Could U'. It finished 24th out of 26 scoring only 29 points, our worst performance to date. We believe that this flopped due to the many indie countries in our semi. Having said that we did receive one '12' however we don't know who sent it to us.

How does it hold up today?

Wishful thinking on our part that this would give us another hit from it featuring the same vocalist as our previous qualifier, so most probably our most desperate entry in that respect and one that spectacularly backfired. Again another bit of dated eurodance and one of the last tracks I've sent I'd choose to revisit.

> Netsky gave Danaelanda it's 4th DNQ in a row last night. On the bright side, it did better than Andreea Banica by scoring 39 points and finished 17th in the semi final. It could have finished 18th if Bang had remembered to vote. We gave many points to Greenfroze and the aforementioned Bang but they both missed out thanks to not picking up the phone and voting. Unfortunately right now is a dark time for dance music in BJSC with indie leading the way. Having said that, last contest's winner "Need U" by Unicorn Kid was a dance song, so that proves that dance can do well when it's good (or entered by Aeroche).

How does it hold up today?

Right here is where I consider Danaelanda to have really start to get going - out with the eurodance finally. This is a very energetic DnB tune and still one of the best Netsky has produced. He was very prominent around this time but that couldn't help him qualify sadly. Still not one of my absolute best entries mind but it has aged rather well. I'm not too huge on DnB compared to house/trance so this had to be something special for me to want to send it in the first place anyhow.

Danævii Broadcasting Network: 2012 Bulletins

> This song was looking likely to be our worst performing entry to date, with no predictions to go through and being bottom of the average odds. However, some drama *.* meant that we and Deandra went through in place of Tinnmark and Zechonia. The only DNQ we voted for was Mdice with Sky Fererria's Lost In My Bedroom. We were not expecting to go through to the final so we are very proud of ourselves, however we can only think what went wrong with last month's drum and bass, and the generic fempop of two months ago.

How does it hold up today?

I'm still surprised we managed to break our long DNQ streak with a progressive trance instrumental of all things in 2012 but there we go. The track is beautiful and has an excellent build, definitely holds up as a fine example of its genre now. It is a bit of a shame EDX doesn't make anything quite like it these days, as great as he is for his brand of deep house.

Danævii Pick

Another track I had forgot about (it has been nine years!) but this was my +12 then and most likely would be of this contest now as well, a disco inspired bit of electro house from our #1 fans Bøtanikkä.

... and that takes us to the end of 2012. :cheer: 2013 commencing tomorrow.

Emma and Brodka (I never understood why this flopped, I thought it was that kind of dance that does well with both dance and indie folks!!!)

Giving the Netsky song a listen now, sounding pretty nice! Quite representative of his usual sound I think.

I vaguely remember 'Burning' as well although more the music video than the song itself, I remember enjoying 'Can't Sleep' from the FIFA soundtrack so decided to look up some more of his music. I'm actually quite liking it, shame it wore off on you!

lol considering that 2012 track record you must be relieved
2012 was a real dark time in Danævii history, I was half tempted to write it off and start the look back from 2013. We probably wouldn't still be here today if we kept flopping like that.

yes that song only going 25th of 30 sure has to be an injustice, may be one to consider if we ever have an 'underperforming finalists' edition of TBO.

Was there not a 12th entry or did South Danaelanda miss out on that one?
that's just a typo, have fixed.

glad you like those two. I'm not big enough on Netsky to have gone through his albums but he's done a few tracks I like.
